Just want to preserve my predictions. Not necessarily anything original. I'm going to try, however, to also predict the sequence of the speech.
I. Intro:
Sales numbers for iPods since they were first released - what percent of the population (perhaps "households") owns at least one iPod.
Segway into sales numbers of iPhone and iPad because "they are iPods" too.
Segway into total number of iOS devices and to why they are so proud of iOS4. Perhaps here Jobs will acknowledge how iOS4 slows the iPhone 3G down in performance, and will mention there is the iOS4 slight upgrade available today that will, among other things, fix this issue. Also, the new upgrade will be available for iPad, finally bringing iOS4 to the iPad.
II. iOS4:
Today the iOS4 goes to all mobile "touch" devices, starting with the iPad.
III. New iPod Nano
It'll be that little square screen that's floating around the internet, and will run some version of iOS4. It'll have a still/video camera, have a wi-fi connection, and be capable of FaceTime. Current pricing will remain the same, but will now be offered in 16gig or 32gig. Will be "the most amazing iPod we've ever made."
IV. iPod Touch
Form factor will change in some way to resemble the look of iPhone4 at least a little. Will have front and rear camera. The pricing will shift so that $199 gets you the 32gig and $299 gets you the 64gig. No more 8gig.
V. iPod Shuffle/iPod Classic
I believe these will only tacitly be mentioned. Perhaps both will see a price drop, but probably not a memory increase. A year from now these will be discontinued as they push the iOS/Touch devices harder and when they unveil "cloud" iTunes.
VI. iTunes
A new iTunes will roll out, probably iTunes 10. The big new feature will be - what's already been rumored - some sort of social/friend-based way of giving and receiving song recommendations to and from your friends - like the current Genius feature, but somehow takes into account your friend's tastes. I can't help but think they will somehow push FaceTime into iTunes recommendations somehow, like a way for you to give a short video review (your face) about a song, a band, an album, etc., and why you recommend it to your friends. Finally, the layout of iTunes will be such that it looks similar to the new iTV layout (below).
VII. "One More Thing" - Apple/iTV
He'll make a joking reference to the comment once made by Apple that the Apple TV was a hobby, and will say something like, "Today it goes from "hobby" to [insert witty, strong word here]." I know they'd like to change it's name to iTV, but I can't decide if they would want to fork over the millions, if not a billion, dollars to be able to license/buy that name. My guess is they will, and it will be re-rolled out as iTV.
It will run iOS4.
It will do everything your old Apple TV could do, which is essentially get all content from your computer's iTunes to your TV.
Media - will allow you to buy/rent movies up to 1080i at current Apple TV pricing. Will allow you to rent TV shows for 99cents commercial free, or buy at 1.99 (or 2.99 HD). The page layout will be more in line with the new iTunes layout.
Remotes - It will come with that crappy little white remote, but you can also use any iOS touch device to control it. Also, that new magic trackpad they rolled out will control it via bluetooth, and if they're smart, they'll sell you the trackpad at a discount if bought at the time you purchase the iTV.
Apps - There will be two points of focus here. First, the focus here will be on game apps, and if developers make a few small tweaks, you can use your iOS4 Touch device to play "video game" apps on your TV vis-a-vis your iTV. Second, there's another way apps will make this thing different - they will roll out network-specific apps - such as Fox or whatever one was mentioned already today - that will enable that broadcaster to deliver content directly to you under whatever terms they develop within that application. This will also enable immediate viewing of content on iPhone and iPad if you are in a wifi spot.
Old Apple TVs (like mine) - they will continue to function as they do now, but won't be able to be upgraded to iOS4
Form factor - I have no clue what this thing will look like. It won't have harddrive space, so it can be very small. I'm dying to see what this thing will look like. Apple will want you/your guests to see it, but at the same time, it will necessarily be small and they don't want it to look like just another clunky component in your TV cabinet.
VIII. Finale
McCartney and Ringo on stage.
