...Honeycomb is something new, not just a mobile OS ported to a tablet like IOS is...

Well, actually, it is. Android, as an OS, is assigned to be customizable in a way that iOS isn't. So, naturally, when you move Android to a tablet interface the UI is going to change more than when you move iOS to a tablet interface. That's just a difference in how the two operating systems approach things. But both are mobile operating systems that have been scaled up to suit a tablet form factor. Android OS, now at version 3.0 (a.k.a. Honeycomb), wasn't built from the ground up to be a tablet OS.

...If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, an iPad really lacks a newness different factor except for screen size. My Mac feels different than my iPhone, and I like that. ...

So, here's where I see this argument break down. If I took this argument to it's natural conclusion, then my iMac and my MacBook Pro should have different UIs. For that matter, if I've got an iMac at home and an iMac at work, well they'd better have different UIs, too. This, of course, gets really ridiculous. There are really good reasons for having a consistent UI among devices.

And, from what I've seen of Lion, you might not want to upgrade, as Apple is moving the UI of the MacOS and the UI of the iOS closer together, so your Mac and your iPhone won't feel so different...

i've been thinking of getting the 32GB wifi version. if they up the ante on the memory to 32/64/128, i may reconsider, but really, i don't see why someone would need all that space for the ipad?

i have an ipod touch for all my music. i don't plan on putting a lot of music at all on the ipad really, and i don't think apps will take up a ton of space. i don't use a lot of photos on it either. so do most people who want the bigger space just want it for their music and everything else? or is there something i'm missing?

Personally, I'm really hoping for a storage bump so I can have 64GB in a middle model. I have a 32GB model now, which will go to my wife when I get a new one, and one of the things that does take up a fair bit of space pretty quick is videos. If you have any kind of video library and want to be able to take any significant portion of it with you, you'll want the extra capacity.

'Twas the night before iPad, when all through Jackling House

Not an iDevice was stirring, not even a multi-touch mouse;

...

I LOVE IT!!!

LOL!

The secret sauce for iPad 1.5 will be Thunderbolt port out the top for connection to large display...
But do you think iPad would act as a controller of any kind, ie: connecting or other devices, or is the port just a way for MacBook to connect to iPad (alternative to the 30-pin?).

I don't know what to think..

I'm going to reiterate what some people have said here. Apple would not be calling a press conference for a spec bump. Just last week, they updated Apple's most important Mac lineup on Apple.com exactly because they were spec bumps. Important technology such as as Thunderbolt was introduced and it still didn't merit a press conference. What Apple will introduce tomorrow is an all new iPad.

I'm placing my bets on Apple borrowing technology from MacBookAir in an all new redesigned iPad. I anticipate blade SSD's that'll allow a significant jump in storage -- up to 256GB on the higher end.

A 300+ dpi (retina) display is unlikely this early but I expect improvements in contrast and brightness, as well as antireflective properties to better place iPad in the heating competition with eReaders.

This hasn't been speculated or talked about much but I'm going to predict Thunderbolt support. Apple's going to want to push the standard into the mainstream and there's no better platform to do so than on iPad. I won't go as far as to say that the dock connector will be gone, but either a Thunderbolt port will be introduced alongside the dock connector or support will be built into the dock connector itself. A dock to Thunderbolt cable will be included. No other Apple device will benefit more from a 10Gbps transfer rate than iPad.

Processor and memory spec jumps are a foregone conclusions. Incremental updates to A5 and at lease 512MB are most likely.

Improved sound won't come at the expense of design. I don't expect a speaker at the back. Placement on the back is actually worse than on the bottom. Sound should travel towards the user, not away from them.

Finally, a theme that'll drive new iOS features will be "more autonomy". Users will rely less --- or not at all -- on a Mac or PC to use their iPad. The MobileMe cloud will have a lot to do with that. Entire iTunes and and iPhoto libraries will be run directly from iPad without the need for a Mac.

An SD card slot would appear likely under this scenario. Allowing users to add photos without the need for an adapter is an important feature if Apple wants people to use their iPads as their photo management device.

I know some of these are a long shot but I have reasoning for the introduction of each of them. Now we wait. See you all tomorrow :)

I stopped reading once I saw you mentioned 256GB SSD on the iPad.
Do you know how much does it cost?

and mere spec bump won't have an event for it? How about the iPhone 3GS?

Apple will want people using ThunderPeak ASAP....So the logical first steps would be to implement it in all devices...

So integrating connectivity of MBP and iPad 1.5, then iPhone 5 makes sense.

I would hazard a guess with iPhone 5 that ThunderPeak cable adapter would be rolled out.

Synchronize your i5 phone/iPod Touch in a minute or so is very tempting!

Surprises for iOS 5?? Allowing file storage via connection with ThunderPeak cable...

live stream

Is there going to be a live stream for this event??

If so, can someone post a link, please?

Thanks!

if there is, it will be over at apple.com

but usually we'd know by now if there was.

it would seem strange to not have a stream, considering the past few times there have been.

Last time, they informed about the streaming link one day before the event. It's still morning in the US. Maybe, they just declare at 8:00 AM that they are streaming the event? I think its unlikely now but I guess its possible.

According to the screenshot above, snapped YourAppleDaily.net, the iPad 2 available will have Thunderbolt, a camera and 1.2GHz CPU. And it will be released on March 17.

Here’s the specs:

9.7-inch screen (same as the current iPad)
1.2GHz CPU
Wi-Fi
Thunderbolt
Camera
Bluetooth

Thoughts?
