I actually know two people who have Android devices. One is a tech who speaks ambivalently about Android vs. iOS. The other is a friend who has an Android phone and bought her daughter an iPhone. She does nothing but complain about her Android phone and how much she envies her daughter's iPhone. So I don't think that it's quite as simple as Tony would like to paint it.

The real question is, given Tony's obvious distaste for iOS devices, why is he taking so much time to spew his vitriol here?
 
Great, just fire up Photobooth and show us the camera working. If they can't identify you from your table Apple won't identify you from your ceiling and a piece of paper with a word written on it.

Seriously, write "noodle" on a piece of paper and take a picture of it with the camera on the iPad.
 
to the poster with the picture...you joined today this is your first post, and you can photoshop, but didn't photoshop in a camera at the top...
 
Apple will never make a big deal just to present an iPad with a camera and some specs bump. I trully doubt it in my heart. Of course the iPad 3 will be the big deal. But something will happen tomorrow I mean, iOS 5 preview, an iPhone 5 anouncement ? It needs to be a big sorprise otherwise why all of this exitement for a camera and some apps?

Is this how Apple has become.... We need to be sure what kind of company Apple is turning to.

Yes, iPhones and iPods have been on a yearly refresh cycle, but the Macs tend to get a spec bump every 6-8 months. Also, with the wave of Android tablets being released later this year, and with Web OS and RIM also making a debut, Apple doesn't have the luxury it had back in 2007 with the first iPhone, they need to move quicker to stay ahead of the game with the iPad.

Its not an insult, its technology, and people should know by now that their will always be something newer and faster just around the corner.

We can only hope! I'd love a 6-7 inch "iPod touch XL", or whatever it's name would be. I find myself not ever using my current iPad because it's not practical (for me) to carry with me often.
 
I'm betting that:

Apple doesn't add a retina display, ups the processor and RAM, and provides us all with 3G capable iPads for $499 and drops the WiFi model completely (or keeps it around for $399). Almost everyone in my entire family has an iPhone. They don't care if it's a 3G, 3GS, or 4. It works for them.

- I'd be cool with this. As the display is already beautiful, I think the iPhone 4 has spoiled us. Apple wants to put the device in everyone's hands. Most average Joes won't base buying the iPad on if it has a retina display or not.

I'm surprised with the notion that Apple won't update the iPad and that this will be what the 3GS was to the 3G. We know nothing. There is no solid evidence out there. You could throw case designs at me all day, but they mean nothing without the actual device.

Then, Apple could throw a curveball at us. All the people that got one for Christmas will see that their product wasn't so outdated if it's not sufficiently updated. That means that people won't be so hesitant to pull the trigger next Christmas. That's huge for Apple. In a way, I think they do consider those possibilities.

What store do I go to if I want to buy the Playbook or HP TouchPad? Oh, they don't freaking exist.

MOCKUP FAIL!!!!!! i don't own an ipad but KNOW that it doesn't come with 10 pages of stuff pre installed. nice fail besides where are apple apps? TEST apps?

OMG .... I can't believe you took the time to copy and paste all these quotes!! LOL. What is wrong with you man?

Anyway .... I hope this is an update with cameras ect. If so .... Road trip to Bangor because I doubt they will release it in Canada at the same time. :)
 
I cannot wait for this Apple media event. It is unknown what they have being presented on stage besides a new iPad. It is an obvious giveaway with the picture on the invitations.

correct me if i am wrong, but doesn't airplane mode switches off the wi-fi?
and the different number of screen pages for the different orientations are weird too.

You can turn on Wi-Fi once in Airplane mode.
