I don't think the cloud based storage would just be stuff you purchased on iTunes. I mean, that is already available anyway (you can always redownload stuff you own). It's just an easier way of doing what you can do right now.

It's only cloud storage if you can actually STORE stuff on it that's not already there.

Edit: Exactly what Genocyde says above me.

So now we have to wait until Sept. for the real next-gen iPad? First, it was the 8-month old iPhone 4 getting "re-milked" in a Verizon version, now it's a slightly improved version of the original iPad which will be used as a placeholder for the iPad 3 for the next 6 or 7 months. Well, I guess it's better to have a "new" model with slightly better specs as opposed to keeping the same model for a year and a half.

Not sure it would even be legal for them to have all your music on the cloud (did you really buy it or copy it) and hard pressed to believe even apple has the resources to put every customers entire collection in cloud. More likely you can stream from a home computer over the web.

This is what I'm thinking because a lot of people now-a-days have really fast download speeds, but uploads speed are really lacking (I have 15 down, but only 3 up). My music collection is approaching 20Gbs and I do not want to upload that to Mobile Me.

I just don't buy it that there will be an iPad 3 later this year. Certainly, Apple can't ANNOUNCE that tomorrow since that would kill iPad 2 sales. And I don't see how they can come in with just a minor spec bump and expect to compete with the high spec tablets coming out now - they would certainly lose market share.

I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Per Daring Fireball, the purported September iPad could be sold alongside tomorrow's iPad 2...

Again with these rumors...

If they confess a new iPad is launching this year it would damage bussiness they would need to lower prices or something...

I LOVE IT.

All of the earlier adopters were REWARDED and got to use an awesome product for almost a year now. If they sold, they got BIG MONEY for it, and essentially it costs them a few cents a day to use a cutting edge piece of equipment. You waited for nothing. You get minor updates, and you've MISSED OUT using a great product.

Go ahead and buy though.

Then when iPad 3 launches, iPad 1 adopters WIN AGAIN, and upgrade then.

Exactly how it should be.

(relax, i'm 10% kidding)

Whatever revamps are made to MobileMe Apple is still selling and promoting it in stores & ESP. when a new Mac us sold. I don't think they would do that if MM was going free. I think they will continue selling boxes in store & switch to some sort of auto activation online.

Then check out what they're building in North Carolina!

IPad 3

the ipad 3 will be a bigger 6 inch ipod touch launching in september not a full sized one.

This smaller ipad will be designed more for gaming, the next major revision to the 9.7inch ipad will be next year

I hope we see some details on the A5, or whatever replaces the A4.

I have a feeling they will only bump the RAM up to 512MB, and not go to 1GB until next year.

Adding cameras seems obvious, although I wouldn't have much use for one myself.

This really could be more like iPhone 3G to 3GS.

Next year, or later this year, could be much more impressive. Retina, 1GB RAM, etc.

Since there are increasing rumors lately that Apple might release a smaller tablet (around 7 inches) that would be more like a scaled up iPod touch instead of a small iPad, I think there might be more truth to the "iPad 3" release in September than initially thought. Maybe it's not an actual "iPad" to be launched in Sept (when the yearly iPod refresh is), but instead an iPod touch XL at 7 inches. This would make sense if the "7 inch Apple tablet" and "September iPad 3" launch rumors are actually true. Maybe the source of the "iPad 3 Sept" rumor is actually misinformed and it's the 7 inch iPod touch to be released instead.

EDIT: hss1 here is thinking the same thing I am.

we had the same rumor last year and it was just an iOS update. with Android having faster updates Apple went to smaller and faster updates as well to compete

all the parts like the SoC and radio chips are on annual update schedules and it takes time to engineer, test and get FCC certification on new products. HTC and others take existing phones, make very small changes, change the name and sell it under a new name. this is why there is always a new one coming out

Only geeks look at spec sheets. It's mom and dad and grandma and grandpa who are buying iPads by the millions.

Apple absolutely can make a minor spec bump in iPad 2 and still own the market in 2011. Oh sure, their market share will drop this year just because it HAS to drop this year no matter what. But if they come out with a great iPad 3 in September/October in time for Christmas, Apple will continue to dominate this category in 2011.

Lower prices can maintain the momentum for six months, and then greater functionality can keep it going in the fall.

EXACTLY. This is BS and an insult to anyone who buys an iPad 2

How is this an insult?

Yes, iPhones and iPods have been on a yearly refresh cycle, but the Macs tend to get a spec bump every 6-8 months. Also, with the wave of Android tablets being released later this year, and with Web OS and RIM also making a debut, Apple doesn't have the luxury it had back in 2007 with the first iPhone, they need to move quicker to stay ahead of the game with the iPad.

Its not an insult, its technology, and people should know by now that their will always be something newer and faster just around the corner.

Ok maybe they can offer 10gb per customer, certainly not unlimited and I still stick to it not being legal!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that someone of competition is making ***** up to buy their time until they are able to release a better product. By making people second guess themselves they wait and when the iPad 3 fails to materialize in the Fall they get upset and jump ship into the arms of the competition.

This will go a long way to selling way more iPads this spring and iPhones this summer. I may even have to get my wife one!

how will this go a long way to selling more? the generic speed bump they always provide, or the cloud-based thing which other companies have already implemented. Sorry curb your enthusiasm.. I just don't see it.

Apple will announce iPad 2 tomorrow? I had no idea.

Lame that we will have to wait for iPad 3 for double resolution display. Oh well.
IPad 2 will be great I will buy it. IPad 3 will be greater, and I will
Buy that to
