Has there been any news regarding Apple offering a live stream for this event, similar to what it has offered for the last couple of events?

To clarify/correct this story:

MobileMe is already a collection of cloud-based services.

What the rumor is suggesting is that Apple will add an additional cloud-based service to MobileMe for hosting and serving various kinds of media.

I'm personally hoping they blow the existing sync service wide open, to allow it to handle all kinds of media, general documents, and third-party content as well. And to supply an API to iOS and Mac (and Windows) developers to access all three types via the service.

Anyway, this Cult of Mac report is pretty lame since it just repeats existing rumors. I guess it lends a little bit of extra credability but it's still boring. ;)

said the new MobileMe service will store music, TV shows, and films that were purchased from the iTunes store.

I don't buy overpriced, low quality (720p), rubbish audio movies, from the Apple store; I buy, rip and watch, on my iDevice, TV or computer.

I do buy music from the iTunes store, however.

I'm guessing we will see the following:

iPad 2

Revised thinner case
Upgraded RAM and CPU
Same HD sizes
Front/Rear camera

iPad 3

Upgraded display res
Upgraded HD sizes
4G (LTE)
Upgraded camera w/ flash

If this was the case, who wouldn't wait 6 months for 4G, 128 GB, and retina display?

Tony

If MobileMe is going 'free' then I hope current users will see some form of reimbursement for the time left on our subscriptions. I only paid €120 in January :(

As for iPad Nua (gaelic for 'new').

I'm expecting them to stick to the A4 and simply up the processor a little. So

1.2 - 1.4 ghz A4 (single core)
SGX543 (updated gpu but single core version)
512mb ram
1024 x 768 IPS panel with Anti Glare coating
VGA & 1.3 megapixel cameras

Slightly lighter 1.2-1.3lbs, Slightly thinner, Slightly louder with new speaker

Same battery life

Anything more will be gravy, but this is my prediction.

:D
The iPad 3 will be so great? I don’t think so! I think the iPad 4 will be better than 3.

Although I’ve heard the iPad 5 could give the iPad 4 a serious run for its money...

Rumors tell of something even better than that, though... I think I’ll keep waiting....

Why buy the best tablet around, when something even better exists in the imagination? (You can tell this has been a hard year for me to wait and not get an iPad! I can wait no more.)

It's almost like you're trying to make a point or something... :D

Don't get your hopes up for the new iPad

That means...

• iOS 5 with (finally) a notifications system etc (and user accounts - please?)
• An iPad with a faster (but not dual core) chip and more RAM
• Cameras (but rubbish quality)

And, since they can't get the dual core chip done in time, they'll drop the price by $50.

Just my two pennies.

I still don't understand why people would think that Apple is going to release another iPad later this year. That is not like them, or any company really...

It does seem highly unlikely. But maybe Apple is playing to really keep their lead by crushing the competition preemptively. And of course moving the cycle to have fresh product going into the Christmas season might have advantages.I'd love it,but would be very surprised.
Just remember everyone said iPhone 4's design couldn't be real because it was "un-Apple"

On Mobile Me,only storing iTunes purchased content would be worthless to me since I buy new and used CDs and MP3s from Amazon before I even look at iTunes, and never buy video either.I understand that the rights holders are dictating the terms though.

Meanwhile back in china, millions of people, including underage children are paid peanuts, are infected by an assortment of contaminative chemicals that make them sick sometimes for life, then they're bought off by god knows who not to talk, and all for the love of Apple.

Yea, lets make sure we don't talk about this hideous aspect of their business ensuring nothing ever changes and they keep buying their products with our eyes wide shut!'

It's really kinda disgusting!

I've been to Asia myself, and did some work for a factory there (not an electronics one so it was nothing to do with Apple). Conditions weren't so bad as is reported sometimes. They had air conditioned facilities, staff had the chance to have a chat sometimes, got proper lunch breaks, and the environment generally felt very friendly. And everyone working there was definitely an adult.

Of course, people get paid peanuts but life there is cheap too. And yes they do long hours, but that's just the way of life there and as they grow richer their conditions improve.

I'm not saying every Asian company is like that. I'm sure sweatshops are still out there. But I don't think they're still used by major brands. Unmotivated workers don't build the quality that Apple delivers.

This is going to be the unveil of the iPhone 3GS all over again, except this time replace iPhone with iPad.

You say that like its a bad thing :). The 3GS was the best iphone I've had. Super solid, no weird issues. If this is the ipad equivalent I'm all over it.

This is what I'm hoping as well.

Yes! And let's hope the notification system gets an overhaul.
That MobileNotifier app I saw yesterday is the first thing that makes me want to jailbreak my phone. Well that and turning off the damn "this accessory not made for iphone" *************.

They won't increase the price - for iPad 3, that is.

How can we wait when it's all specualtion to begin with??

Jeeze I feel bad for people who passed on the first iPad and waited all this time just to be told that if they buy the new one it will be replaced in 6 months.

I can't see Apple doing this AT ALL.

The thing is, if they bump up to the 1.2Ghz processor (A5), double the ram to 512MB and make it smaller, is it really *that* much behind? Even with 256MB RAM it runs smoothly. The Engadget review of the Xoom said at times it had some slow downs and it has 1GB RAM, right? (Maybe even 512MB). Sometimes it's not so much about the specs as it is about how well it works. Apple made 256MB RAM work REALLY well.
Are the new processors really so much advanced that Apple would be blown out of the water if they put out 1.2Ghz dual core wit 512MB ram?

Great post. The iPad runs pretty damn well for 256MB RAM. Sticking with that formula, I expect a faster processor and at least 512MB to shine even more.

Since Apple is saying “come see what 2011 will be the year of” I take that as meaning they will be unveiling their entire iPad roadmap for this year. So if there's really going to be another update for the iPad in September they'll probably talk about it.

But it just seems so unlike Apple to do it this way so I don't think there will be an iPad 3 until 2012. But with all the flashy competition coming out they might be feeling the pressure to break the norm and do exactly what the rumors are implying because I doubt they're ready to release “the tablet that will end all tablets” right now. But in six months they probably will be ready.

In any case we only have to wait one more day to find out!

Well logic would tell buyers to wait, however - I know I never make very logical decissions when it comes to Apple products.

I sold my iPad a few weeks ago and will pick up the iPad 2 when it is released. If 4G isn't one of the capabilities - I will just pick up a WiFi version. I will then turn around and sell it when the iPad 3 comes out.

Fortunately, I keep my devices in impeccable shape so I minimize my loses when I resell the unit. That and usually a family member or friend is happy to get a (almost new) device at a reduced price. :p

In my opinion, the big 2 insinuates more than a spec upgrade. Apple never gave their babies new names unless they had some big improvements (iPhone 3G->iPhone 3GS). Same with firmwares (3.1->3.2).

Also, the event will be all about iPad 2. How can they fill time with saying "And now, one more thing: 512 MB RAM!!!"

The iPhone 3GS did not really get much time in the event, just some screenshots, data, not even a demo. Same with upgraded MacBooks and stuff - they are not the main thing of an event unless they have some new key features

I agree with your entire post - however, why would Apple openly tell people that they will be releasing a new product in 6 months? That's like saying directly, "your $500 iPad WILL be old technology, and this is why."

Again, seems very un-Apple-esque.

If they are going to revamp mobileme as a dropbox killer, can't we just put our itunes libraries in the folders that sync... and let them stay synced, as well as backed up in the cloud?

I don't see what the problem would be- I can almost stream from the cloud with my dropbox account as it is... as long as itunes can read a library from any folder... I don't see what this huge jump is to a cloud based service... seem like it could be implemented right now.

Also- the employee who used the phrase "song and dance..." I think that is probably identifiable to an individual... good luck to that guy in keeping his job...

There will be no IPAD 3 this year...that is in 2012...We will all be wowed by the IPAD 2.

All it needs in Dual-core ARM A9 (A5) and Dual-core GPU and 512MB of ram, along with front and rear cameras, lighter and smaller with a anti-glare screen.

Unless this is mostly an iOS5 event, with an emphasis on how that will improve iPad IU and performance.
