I tried one, and the scrolling is SO much better than a tilt-wheel or ball. And I very much like the shape (especially the thinness for laptop travel).

(I don’t consider it a 4-button mouse because I consider the forward/back swipes to be an awkward token feature that few will use. Just like the old squeeze buttons were.)

+1

It's great for scrolling... but I couldn't justify the price of the purchase for just that. The other stuff isn't worth it for me either.

well there on sale southampton uk
is it sad i was the first person to purchase one
lol none were out on display and not even the staff knew they were on sale today.
anyway i don't think they will be adding new gestures anytime soon if the packaging is anything to go by

Yay! Getting mine with a new 27" iMac!

EDIT: Thanks for the pics monk fish! :) They look beautiful.

WTF Happened?!!!

WTF happened to my 4 button apple mouse?!!!!
I used the side buttons to switch 'spaces' and the scroll button for 'expose'!
Now I'm stuck with a 2 button mouse again. I find the swipe a bit awkward and sensitive. Anyone agree? I love the scroll feature but I hate not having spaces on the side buttons!!!

Nobody is stopping you from using your Mighty Mouse. So nothing has happened to your 4 button apple mouse. Unless of coarse you broke it, then you are the only one who knows what happened to 'your 4 button apple mouse"

Shipping from Apple Store UK website?

Hi

Just about to order one of these but need to know whether to get it shipped to home (for tomorrow/Saturday), or work.

Has anybody in the UK who ordered a Magic Mouse online received a shipping note and expected delivery date - It's still showing 5-7 days on the website.

TIA

- D

Where are the batteries? Do they come preinstalled, or has  cut that out for more margin?

thx

I ordered mine from the apple web store when they where announced and I just recieved it today. Unfortunately, with 10.6.2 not being out it currently makes a very beautiful paperweight as it is unrecognised by my mac.

Here are a few images next to my current mighty mouse (apologies for my messy desk!):-

As you can see it is much longer than the mighty mouse, I find that it fits into my massive hands much better than the current one does. Its nicely ergonomically shaped and my fingers rest where the buttons should be naturally. It is also lighter, but only a by a few grams (probably, haven't actually weighed the thing!) Its light enough to be noticibly lighter but its still heavy enough to be tacktile.

It is much slimmer than the mighty mouse, and as you can see there are no noticable side 'force' buttons (which I currently use for exposé). There is nothing from apple detailing what they plan to flll the 'space' that the force buttons currently fill but perhaps functionality will be built into the new mouse update to cover for the lack of these buttons.

You can just make out the silver slide switch at the top right that turns the mouse on and off (in the black section) as well as the tiny pin hole above it where the 'on' led is. As stated the mouse comes with batteries installed, which is a nice touch. Normally other manufacturers just don't bother. There are black strips each side of the battery door on the bottom which are the 'runners' and make the mouse much, much smoother running than my current mighty mouse is. The case is also aluminium apart from the top surface. The battery cover is a little more difficult to open than the mighty mouse, but it's not like you have to open this door every day.

Now can't wait for the OS update, it's supposedly much better tracking too so I would like to have a proper test before I give it a thumbs up overall. It certainly gets one for design and feel though!

Mine has just arrived!

Looks great. Lighter than I thought. Very smooth to move around desktop. Only thing is I cant use it at the moment because the Macs at work dont have BT.

On off switch seems a bit 'flaky'. Seems like it should go with a satisfying click but mine just seems to scrape along?

you realize there is an update from Apple for Snow Leopard to use the new Magic Mouse features???

re: 3rd. button clicks?

No, I don't see why/how it would support the 3rd. mouse button as a click.
The Mighty Mouse couldn't either. It only worked because it had a rolling scroll-wheel ball you could depress to act like the 3rd. button. That's lacking in the Magic Mouse.

Most likely, Apple figures you have no need for a 3rd. button if the mouse supports all sorts of gestures on its surface. Anything you used to assign as button 3 can be assigned to some sort of finger movement across the top of the Magic Mouse instead.

(Obviously though, this gesture stuff depends on the software supporting it. There's an unlimited number of possible finger movements they could code as "valid, unique gestures" to perform functions. It's all about Apple coming up with practical and user-friendly ones that people can easily remember, and writing software that lets you assign them to the things you'd like software to do. I think we're seeing only the very beginning stages of what they might eventually do with a Magic Mouse.)

I read on the reviews on apple's website that this mouse doesn't have a middle mouse button. Can anyone verify that? Does anyone know if this mouse will be able to support 3-button clicks?

You beat me to it, I was going to inform jameskk of the update!

Anyway, purchased mine from store today. Got it home, worked as soon as paired. Installed the driver and gestures are now also working! :)

Very easy to use and very responsive. 10/10 from me - no need for 3rd button in my opinion

I hope the schools that use Macs don't adopt these gimicky devices. I want my children to learn real PC skills with a real mouse.

So apple forced you to turn in your previous mouse when you bought the new one?

Certain people need to PAY ATTENTION to the news at the MacRumors home page instead of just spending all their time in the forum!

And, for those Mighty Mouse lovers out there... REJOICE! With the release of the Magic Mouse, Apple lowered the price on the Mighty Mouse! Keep on enjoying fondling your mouse balls! :)

My Magic Mouse is on the FedEx truck for delivery today! :)

Just gor back from the Apple store in Leicester, primarily for an iPhone Genius appointment, but i thought i'd ask anyway… and they've got them in stock now, was sold the 1st one! :p paired it, ran software update, rebooted, now having a great time with it, only thing i've missed is the expose on the side buttons, but i've just given that to the top cornet of my screen :)

Just bought mine in Apple store Brighton.

It's great.. worked out of the box except for scrolling.

Downloaded the Leopard upgrade and it now scrolls.

At last I can retire my poor old wired MS mouse; feel a bit sorry for it. We've worked together for years! :-(

This is a lovely product, exactly what I wanted and I strongly recommend it to all.

Anyone elses on/off switch feel 'broken'?

i.e. it doesnt click or anything, it just slots in to place very easily and feels like a good shake of the mouse will dislodge it from its position?
