What a stupid, ignorant and needelessly sarcastic post. If I know of two people already in my immediate surrounding who will not buy a computer because of a (stupid?) rumor/hype, I (the computer company) should be very worried about the effects posts like these and people like you have. It is not because I (me moi) know those people, but the fact THAT there ARE two people who will not buy because of (non-fundament?) hypes. Two will become six, etc. if a rumor explodes. Talk to Canon or Nikon about how they love the rumors. Of course you cannot stop the hay heads from spreading around nonsense. But you (apple, whoever) can bid against them with some facts if (anonymously) stepped in. Many people dont see that this site is mostly about rumors and personal frustration. A problem is rarely world-wide, affecting all models or softs, but 'discussions' like this, make it look that way, influencing peoples judgements. People tend to follow trends, This here is a wrong trend. Make fun of it, please do. I like humor. But if this goes the wrong way it will hurt the company and the products you make your money with. Instead of trying to steer away from it, you with all your knowledge make fun of it and thats cheap and far away from what you actually should be doing..

Oh the humanity!

Could it be value?

"And don't you just love these cheap clothing stores that do two-for-one sales. Folks, let me tell you something. Two of sh*t is sh*t. If they really want to f*ck you, they'll give you three."

A temporary "fix" for this Flash problem, which is something i always use anyway, is ClickToFlash. Blocks Flash unless you specifically enable it and it makes YouTube videos H.264 too. :)

bailing

this is my last stand as an apple user, i no longer think the ipod is a good device, both my macbook pro, and macbook have bit the dust, didn't even last 2 years, my imac just had a 3rd hard drive fail in under a year, the only apple device i have that i consider to be a good one is the extreme N router. and i won't go into detail about how horrible i think the iphone is, i'll just say theres a myriad of phones i'd rather use, and yes i owned 2 iphones. i do still like os x, so i'll continue to run that on my NON mac hardware, which has always out-preformed my actual mac hardware anyway. it's amazing that almost identical hardware runs os x very differently from mac to non mac. so adios apple, i'll keep using your router and operating system, but my 15 year affair with you is over, your company is getting more like microsoft everyday, and i don't want myself to advertise your mediocre junk anymore.

Mmmm... smells like astroturf.

farewell :)

can i ask, how hard are you on your hardware? dad has a 5/6year old iBook thats running fine. my 3+ year old MBP is fine aesthetically, hell even our 10+ year old original iMac is still going perfectly.

the iphone is pretty boring and just a toy - thus why i use a nokia business phone :D

anyway, goodluck with it.

I'm curious to see if this user answers your questions. I doubt it. Silly, isn't it? I've been on Macrumors for years and it's only been in the last couple that I've noticed the incessant stream of so-called Mac users bailing out on the entire company because they've become evil and their products have declined in quality and blah blah blah. And they always have these unlikely sounding horror stories of how every Apple product they bought died and Apple was soooo mean and nasty to them about it.

Funny thing is that Apple's products and service have never been better. I've been using Macs since the early 90s and I've seen it for myself. Apple's at the top of their game right now. I've never seen so much interest in Macs amongst my Windows-using friends as I see right now.

I don't find it even remotely difficult to believe that there's an astroturfing effort happening on Mac sites. It's hard to think otherwise. These posts are always so fakey sounding and it's always these people who have joined Macrumors in the last year who are throwing these hissy fits and jumping ship.

Garsh... it's so believable.

i agree and disagree with you there. let's look back 15 years, at the PowerBook 520.

look at the computers that are out now, all pretty looking and made from one uni-cast body. its incredible how far it as come. in that sense, apple has definitely advanced in terms of their product design and all of that.

but when you take a look at the other side of things you might be surprised. apple has become a bit "cheap" over the last decade, im not sure if this is because they are trying to be so innovative or whatever its from.

the Time Capsule is a good example. the PSU is inside the device. great! (you think). until it dies after 18months of use (happened to our household). the fix? well there isnt one, apple do not see it as an issue. if its under warranty you get a new one (and loose all the data you had backed-up) and away you go, until it dies after another 18 months.

the issue? apple put the PSU inside the tiny enclosure, but didnt give it enough air-flow! the fan doesnt run properly, and it points the wrong way. so the capacitors inside the PSU die. lovely.

its things like this that show the declining quality/effort involved from apple.

i guess we cant really tell them they are wrong, i mean - the poster has clearly had this happen to them. maybe they were unlucky? maybe they are hard on their products? maybe they had the first revision of each product? so yes, who knows! the OP has clearly made a decision though and i congratulate them for making the decision that they have - turning to hackintoshes isnt an easy way out by any means. no warranty, minimal support etc. the rewards are pretty good though i must admit ;)

Time to buy a lottery ticket, because according to published studies of iMac, Apple laptop and iPhone reliability, the probability of having all of those failures is approximately one in 600,000 (based on annual reader response surveys by Consumer Reports of computer purchasers and the SquareTrade study of wireless phone quality).

I don't understand your phrasing "after you decided to say you could find an i7 mini for $799". A Dell XPS 8000 with a Core i7-860 with 3 GiB RAM, DVD-RW and 512 MiB Radeon HD has a *list* price of $798.

The phrase "decided to say" borders on an insult, for which I'd graciously accept your apology.

Hoity-toity and imperious are we?

Please girls, we're starting from a $339 laptop - not maxing out a mini-tower or all-in-one!

Confirmed, beyond the shadow of a doubt.

There will always be missteps. There's no way around it and Apple should always address those things when they happen.

But there's just no comparison to the Apple of the mid 90s. That Apple was prone to ignoring user complaints outright while continuing to crank out shoddy products--and worse. There was a clear decline back then. I think it's overreacting to see a couple of screw-ups nowadays and announce that it's a decline, especially when Apple is making some of the most amazing products they have ever made.

I owned a Performa 6200CD which has been deemed time and time again to be one of the worst Macs ever made. I've seen firsthand how Apple used to handle this kind of thing. It wasn't pretty and what was going on back then bears absolutely no similarity to the Apple of today, occasional missteps or not.

That's why I find these random users on Macrumors throwing up their hands and stomping out of the room to be a highly suspicious bit of melodrama.

No offense but after being on here for a long time nobody needs to apologize to you Aiden unless they broke forum rules.

You live to argue with Mac people on MR.

A most peculiar pastime, one which seems to have evolved into a twisted obsession.

Requesting apologies on top of it all - pure farce.

they are completely ignoring this issue, and it will eventually effect 100% of the TCs (well duh), but overall the life expectancy is very low. 18months! wth!

i was only a younging back then so i cant really comment on it all, so i will take your word for it :p

how long did the computer last? did you experience the low quality standards from apple? i guess the competition forced apple to become so good with their customer services. good!

sometimes people just have enough i guess. not much we can do, maybe we didnt provide enough help when they were posting their threads about how to fix it? lol.

So judging by the posts of 3 or 4 people here who seem to represent the "recent switcher" group we can expect Apple Mac sales to plummet next time Apple releases numbers for a quarter ?

Or do these people not actually represent the "massive" amount of dissatisfied customers ?

You wanna know what it actually is? This phenomenon of massive problems cropping up everywhere ?

It's an old saying by coders. Some here will understand. Some won't.

Garbage In , Garbage Out. Protoplasm.

Do you live everywhere in the world or something? Just because its fine for you, does't mean its all rosy for everyone else. Apple is an international company, the quality can easily vary from country to country, and these horror stories do happen. Don't insult your own intelligence by assuming that everyone who bashes Apple is a liar.

Jeez.

The quality is the same everywhere. They are all made in the same factory in China.

But the issue has just come to light so we're not sure if they're ignoring it or not. And based on multiple reports right here in this thread, there are users already engaged in feedback with Apple engineers. Trust me, that never happened back in the 90s. Never.

i was only a younging back then so i cant really comment on it all, so i will take your word for it :p

Consider yourself lucky that you never dealt with the Michael Spindler-era Apple. Horrible. They deserved to have their asses handed to them by Microsoft.

The computer actually lasted a long time, but the engineering behind it was so horrific that longevity with such a box would actually be considered a negative. :D

The problems were too numerous to go into, but trust me, anything we're seeing nowadays pales in comparison. Read an overview here and the terrifying technical details here and here. Now those are products by a company in decline.

Microsoft has been caught engaging in astroturf campaigns before, so it wouldn't surprise me if some of the user frustrations around here are fakery.

Very strange

I'm running Snow Leopard on a few years old Macbook Core Duo 2Ghz
with 2GB of RAM and it's fine. Flash does have a bit of a 'Start the fans please'
but no slow downs.

it may only be new, but it doesnt take a scientist or an entire department to realise the nature of this problem. its big. it will effect all of the devices (unless we all run them in the fridge).

Consider yourself lucky that you never dealt with the Michael Spindler-era Apple. Horrible. They deserved to have their asses handed to them by Microsoft.
probably why we are fighting for market share now eh?

i think i actually remember having one of those machines! it seemed to work fine for me.

apple had some pretty good ways of getting around those bus frequency problems, but i can see why there were so many problems!

who hasnt eh?
