Have you read the reviews that are anything but the 4 & 5 star for their products?
I’d rather not risk a $1200 iPhone over saving $20 on a charger. Or worse it could burn down your house when you’re not home. That’s gonna get a more more expensive than $1200.
This is how people justify paying Apples idiotic prices? Come on. Anker have been around for a long time, and their products get properly certified.

I just mentioned UL as it’s a more popular certification than their peers. Adding to that there are plenty of reviews mentioning either burning out of Anker chargers or shorting the device itself.

Anker’s warranty only covers their product but not the more expensive products people use it with. That’s the reason I don’t buy any of those cheaper brands even when they’re less expensive and smaller. These brands are good for cables but I don’t trust them with the chargers itself with their continued push towards making them smaller with each iteration.
So Apple will replace a Samsung S22 Ultra smartphone ($1200+) that was damaged by a malfunctioning Apple USB-C charger?

Replace "Anker" with "Apple" in that sentence.

If their products are so good why are there so many reviews with similar complaint? It's what comes from pushing thru the boundaries of physics to make your products smaller to make them more appealing to the masses.

And everyone knows Apple makes their money from the hardware so if you don't like their prices you can always purchase other branded options. Just not risking a fire for $20 I might be saving.

The Anker is 5 star rated. Here’s the part where you tell us the reviews that are positive are fake.

WTH are you talking about? I mentioned the limitations on the Anker warranty.

Since you're so keen on "standing up" for the little guy, here's another one for ya.
How many reports have you seen of Apple chargers burning up or causing a fire vs Anger chargers? Maybe a handful in the past decade?

They prioritize safety over marketing stunts and which is why you don't see Apple pushing for ultra compact GaN chargers like many smaller companies do. A lawsuit could get real expensive real quick for a big company like Apple or Google compared to Anker. If everyone who's had troubles with Anker sued they'd have gone bankrupt a long time ago.

Self aware enough to never buy Apple accessories.
Not how the word is used. But yes, I do agree Anker makes good products in general and are much cheaper than the Apple ones. But they cut corners so much that the percentage of faulty ones is a lot more than Apple.

In the end it's your choice to make as it's your money. I personally can't risk damaging the more expensive device using a cheaper charger and that's why I'd avoid third-party refurbs or used electronics for the most part. Peace of mind from purchasing a quality product is worth a lot more to me than the tiny fraction I'd be saving otherwise.

Again, it's my personal preference and doesn't apply to anyone else but those with similar priorities. Not sure why you're getting so defensive about Anker though.

I‘d have got one of these if the compact version was available in the UK as it seems perfect for my travel bag but the bulky one is too bulky especially when I already have a bulky charger for my MacBook in my bag

Yes I’ve seen the comments from others that our (safer) plugs are massive so that’s why but Apple easily fit folding pins into the 20W adapter with single USB-C. It’s madness they can’t do the same with this plug too

The bigger charger can be used with the longer cable that older macbooks shipped with That gives more reach and good for home use. The smaller is best for travel.

I got one of each.

Depends on the travel, I suppose. U.S. owners of the Apple World Travel kit might choose the standard version as well.

$60 for an Apple charger is a steal, it's like they didn't apply the Apple Tax on it.

You mean it's a steal when Apple adds this to every unsuspecting customer when they come into the store to purchase something?

Apple has continued to remove features and components from their product boxes over the last several years. I get the shipping efficiency and environmental argument... but then they come in and charge $59 for charger technology that other, reputable brands can deliver at half the price with the same functionality.

The color-matching braided cable is another $49, for what it's worth. So to get lower wattage charging (compared to the last-gen wall brick MagSafe charger @ 60W), for a new set of charging capabilities you're looking at $108 - 36% MORE.

Bro chill! That was a joke.

Those "imports" could lack the smart charging of the Apple products. They often get really hot and their output could be an issue. Cheap is not always better!
New flash, they do have smart charging. I have multiple high wattage GaN chargers and they work just fine for a fraction of the cost. I use an off brand charger for my 14" mbp that I throw in my backpack, so my Magsafe charger lasts longer.

I charge my iPad Pro 11 with a tiny 5w charger and a $2 adapter. I was amazed that it wasn't all that much slower than the larger 20w Apple charger.

Edit to add that Anker is no longer cheap. And every cable I've used of theirs wouldn't last past 18 month warranty period. I'm also guessing Apples cost on a their $60 charger is around $2.

This product makes no sense to me. It has 2 ports but it’s only 35W, so it won‘t charge the MBA if you’re charging another device. So why would they include it with a Mac?
I'll bet it charges your MBA safely and just fine (only a little slower) if the computer is put to sleep.

Sounds like the only reasons to get the large version vs. the compact are:

Removing the prongs to add the 6 ft. grounded extension cable.

Removing the prongs to use in other countries.

The shape of the larger fits better in your outlet layout than the smaller.

Unless I forgot something, and none of those are true for you, then the compact version seems like a winner.

MagSafe Duo is just an Apple branded MagSafe charger. You can get them from Belkin or Anker now. MagSafe doesn't require a 20 watt charger. I've used mine with the 18 watt one and I'm sure it would work with a lesser one. Of course it's going to charge faster if you use a 20 watt but so will plugging it in to the phone. To my knowledge Home Pod mini is the only thing that has a 20 watt requirement where it just won't work.
MagSage duo is a $130 Apple-made travel charger that a lot of people like, that requires Apple's 20W charger to function properly. I don't care what Belkin or Anker make. That is not the point in the slightest.

And MagSafe itself requires the 20W charger to operate at full speed.

The point remains that Apple has several times required this specific 20W charger for functionality. Making a 35W dual charger a bizarre and limiting choice.

I'm kidding of course, the relatively low price is misleading as this is a 35w charger - which means charging will be slow, just to have a smaller brick and an extra port. As you say, it's designed to make you consider the 'real' charger that is much more expensive.

I dont understand either of your arguments.

1. Apple has been around longer than Anker
2. Apples products are certified.
