I really believe that this is the result of Apple shifting strategies to deal with leaks.

That really would be interesting. Perhaps Apple is making these fakes, just to screw with everyone --
maybe J.R. is really someone like Jonathan Ive, I don't know, a middle name or something. Hmm....

I'm going to bed and not waking up until 12:30 EST so I have as little time to sit around and wait for the keynote.

Seriously? Ugh...

Who cares a darn about the displays? We WANT NOTEBOOKS!

AppleInsider says it's a display AND a MacBook. So arn, why say display and NOT a MacBook?

I care. Who cares about notebooks anyway? I WANT NEW APPLE DISPLAYS.

Knowing what I do about Steve Jobs, I wouldn't be surprised if he created a task force to create many of the "leaks" and rumors.

Maybe...

Maye the $899 SKU is a display/something-really-cool-that-no-one's-thought-of-yet, and the others (including the $1299, $1799 laptops) are macbook pros? After all, they did mention something about 'new products at prices competitors can't match'. It would make sense to roll out a really cheap MBP with reduced features.

These prices are insane. Apple needs drastic price cut on the lap top line up to stay relevant. They need to offer a sub $1000 15 inch laptop with with video card.

Let's hope there's more to the story.

I toally and completely agree. It's what I've said time and time again.

EDIT:
while picking out his clothes ahead of time :)

Yeah, I'm sure he's having a hard time picking those. :D

Gettin' ready, eh? Could they be available in-store as soon as tomorrow?

These are amazing
http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/10/hp-gets-color-critical-with-30-inch-dreamcolor-lp2480xz-lcd/

HP's have been much better that dells and apple's, The only benefit ever to using an apple display is, that it matches the mac pro, and that it has firewire inputs.

WHY oh WHY can't dell and HP act as a firewire hub in addition to the usb and memory card readers!

While the HP display you linked to has millions (even billions) of colors, it's $3,499!

All the $300-$500 HP and Dell 24" displays that people are talking about are 6-bits per channel TN displays, which means only 262,144 colors on screen at the same time!. If you want a "true color" IPS display with at least 8-bit per channel for 16 millions+ of colors you have to pay twice the price.

I have a 20" HP LCD. Nice monitor, but you can see the color banding on gradients, the most glaring example is Leopard's gradient windows. Note that the banding effect is much less apparent when I plug the thing in analog VGA mode (as opposed to digital DVI), but then the display is much less stable and blurrier.

Thank YOU!!

A decent blu ray player still cost around $300, what the he!! are people thinking when they expect an $899 laptop to include a $300 dollar device.

My store has an HP Core 2 duo with 4GB of memory, 320G HD, Nvidia 9600GT w/512MB, Blu-Ray, and a 17" screen for $999. The HP 1175-NR

"In the new (aluminum) MacBook lineup, there are only two standard configurations:

$1299: 2.0 GHz, 2 GB memory, 160 GB disk
$1499: 2.4 GHz, 2 GB memory, 250 GB disk"

why would they slow the down the processors but drop the $1099 model. For some reason i doubt all of this information. We will know tomorrow, and put all of these rumors to rest.
