Thank YOU!!

A decent blu ray player still cost around $300, what the he!! are people thinking when they expect an $899 laptop to include a $300 dollar device.

I don't think anyone is expecting Blu-ray in an $899 MacBook... but I have no idea why you're quoting retail pricing for standalone Blu-ray players as if that was the same as OEM pricing on BD drives for notebooks.

Notebook BD drives (OEM pricing) have fallen to around $135-150 for a combo drive and $210-240 for a BD-R/RE burner (in quantity) -- which is why PC OEMs CAN put BD drives in $700 notebooks.

You have to read between the lines. The statement was "No Firewire 400", not "No Firewire." They are going to do a single FW800 port and include an adapter obviously.

The current rumor states that the MB will not have Firewire at all. I hope apple doesn't remove it.

Anybody consider this isn't a $899 cinema display ? It is labeled MB you know.

Macbook Mini ?.
What we've "seen" so far are generic molds and mock-ups. Don't be fooled.

I just get this feeling that the $899 is a "one more thing" and it's not you're typical notebook.

It could also be the elusive "iMac-like dock"

I was just thinking the same thing. Some alert person is going to dig up the address of that building the leaked picture tracks too, and discover it was an Apple campus building.
Better yet, it will be revealed that Steve Jobs took the photos with his iPhone.

If we combine a few rumors we get this:

$899 Apple Cinema Display
- iSight built-in
- Built in AppleTV type HDD device
- possibly 24" screen

Would make sense, but I'd imagine it would be all about notebooks, and then at the end Steve will say... wait there's one more thing, and boom we have new ACD's. :p

The AirPort Express goes under the name of MBxxx in our system (Best Buy)... it could be a tablet. This is a notebook event afterall, and a tablet is a notebook in way.

Rumors. That's ALL they are.

There are so many emotional b*tches on this site come rumor time. Between 10AM and 11AM all will be revealed. Most will love it and some will dislike it.

And a surprising number of those that dislike it will still buy the very Apple products they scoffed at.

I read funny comments here sometimes...

900... yeah it's expensive, but if it's about a display, it's not a normal display, thus you couldn't get something better from Dell or I-have-no-idea-who-else, because they don't have these. ;)

As someone (smart) pointed out on the first page, it would be about a laptop docking station for Apple laptops. So you just plug in your laptop in the dock and the illusion is perfect : it looks like an iMac. Then when you want it back for work, just remove it and bring it with you... quite smart idea, but out of price IMO.

This would explain why optical drives on both MB and MB are located on the side now, not on the front anymore.

A 24" display -- even including some sort of docking mechanism -- would have to include additional features if it is going to sell for $899. If it doesn't have some kind of killer functionality that is yet unknown, it would be the kind of low-volume product that is not even worth mentioning at a press event.

LED?

QFT; post of the night.

Yes but the Cinema displays are different. For example the 23"
Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel)
Part Number: M9178LL/A

New Item :

K29, MB382LL/A $899.00

I believe yeah, but is this a killer function, really?

Maybe if it contained a hard disk, special ports, or if it were hugely-sized... but then again, do we really want all that? :S

again.... *no* tablets, for chrissakes..... not going to happen!

What's the value of LED's? All they do is consume less energy. And that isn't as important in a stationary monitor.

Just saying that LED's cost more, so that's why they would sell a 24" monitor for $899 when LCD ones are going for much less.

perhaps not for the cheaper price point. I think that LEDs tend to cost a bit more ($1000+)... More likely to be LCD

I'm pretty sure it's LED. though a quick search shows a samsung at $2000+ http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1382375

:)

All Apple products start with "MB". They started with "MA" prior to that. It doesn't stand for MacBook.

STOP THIS MADNESS! There is so much speculation that I can't take it anymore! I'm just gonna go to sleep and wait for his Steveness to tell me the truth tomorrow morning. ;)

The 23" cinema display is M9178LL/A not MB or MA

Why would they put magport on a display that is designed to sit on desk?

It really makes no sense unless the magport now carries more than power.

Is funny how people are finding ways to justify apple's price on the rumored apple cinema display.

Where I work we run a 30"lcd made by dell and the apple 30" lcd.
To the guy above saying that the apple panel is of higher quality.
Please get your facts straight and don't go off by a spec sheet but by real world
experience. For you to say that the apple cinema display is better in terms of quality is just plain moronic and fanboish.

There is no reason behind apples high price on hardware that really gives you nothing= in return. I mean i purchased an HP 24" for 399.99 and when i compared it to my apple cinema display 23" guess what the HP LOOKED BETTER IN TERMS OF EVERYTHING.

AND WHAT THE HELL IS THIS DOCK B.S PEOPLE ARE RAVING ABOUT?
are you serious? I understand apples business. Take what is out there and applefi it. Claim it as your innovation and get all the credit for it. But people are willing to loose sleep over a dock station? lol- let me guess it will do everything current dock stations do except they will include a glowing apple and will come in monotone colors (black-white).

WOW!
I hope their not brewing part 2 of apple tvs commitment to failure in the overall big picture.
