I will probably drop by there tomorrow in the afternoon and check it out. This is really close to where I live and will be the most convenient location for me to visit (balance of distance and traffic compared to the other Chicago area stores).

Also, this Lincoln Park is a major yuppie and expensive area, littered with trendy stores, bars, and entertainment venues. It also has a very active nightlife. I would say definitely upper middle class type people hang out and live there. It is also mostly white. It is not even close to being "ghetto," by any stretch of imagination.

The Lincoln Park everyone here is thinking about I believe is located in Indiana, if memory serves me correctly.

Well since I have been to every Apple Store in the Chicagoland area (yep I'm a dork :D ) I will check out this place.

I'll go there to look at the new MacBook Airs and convince myself that I "really" (really, really) do not need one.

:p

Since when did Lincoln Park become all that bad? The western half (where the store is) is a little rough around the edges, but come on. The eastern half is even semi-posh. Besides that, the area has seen a lot of redevelopment over the past few years.

True, except that this store (and this part of Lincoln Park) is just blocks away from the remnants of Cabrini-Green. Not that it's as bad as it used to be, but it's definitely close to some rougher neighborhoods.

It hasn't, Lincoln Park has been a yuppie neighborhood for decades. Crime goes goes there because there is something to steal there. And an apple store with 3 entrances within running distance to a red line stop, this place is ripe for getting robbed.

Haha is this the same Lincoln Park!? Apple you better hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husbands cuz they're rapin' erybody out here!

I for one am very curious to see how this store and venue will look a year from now. Did you notice the two security guards around the building?

Those smooth and shiny panels around the building are screaming "tag me!" in that section of the hood. While the immediate area looks nice, get on Google Street View and travel a few blocks to see what is around that place.

Jobs meeting with Obama right before this store opening is not a coincidence.

Also, didn't the area just SW of the North/Clybourn station used to be called Weed Street? :D

Clearly you're not from Chicago... right on North there and in the surrounding area there is CB2, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, REI, Container Store, World Market, Banana Republic, JCrew, Victoria Secret, Whole Foods, Restoration Hardware, and a whole bunch of other expensive restaurants and bars. This area is not "hood" by any stretch of the imagination.

The edges of the remnants of Cabrini-Green are a few blocks south, but that has largely been demolished. With the Apple store moving in, and the land to the south being cleared, this area is going to continue to boom and fill in further.

Why would someone vote this as negative? Great investment in the neighborhood, revitalized run down structures, good paying jobs . . .

Must be rough, going through day-to-day life, hating something as much as some people hate Apple, regardless of what positive things they may do (especially in this economy)

I'm predicting a burglary any time from the first to two weeks of that store's opening...

Its inevitable...

Unfortunately, you are right. Putting a high end retail next to a place with a high per capital of Section 8 housing will do that. Surprised I only saw two security guards on the scene. My take is that after an unacceptable "shrink" of retail stock occurs, this place will start to get a perimeter of security.

I applied to work at that Apple Store when I lived in Ohio back in June. Two trips to Chicago later, I was denied being hired. Biggest mistake Apple ever made in a hiring decision for a simple specialist! :)

They told us in the hiring process that 2,000 people applied. The first cut was the top 500. 2nd cut was the ones who made it in. All they said was that the store was hiring "a lot" of employees, but only for the specialist position. The others are filled in by nearby stores' employees ie genius positions etc.

They also told us the store would open late July/August...guess they were off by a lot.

Again, i reiterate, that this area is by nothing close to hood, poor, or rundown. It's one of the busiest shopping areas in all of Chicago, behind Michigan Avenue and State Street.

Oh, and surprise... the Apple store on Michigan Avenue also usually has a couple security guards standing around out front.

Lp

I live in LP and just checked the store out last night. It is gorgeous and a great fit for the area. LP is one of the nicest and yuppiest parts of Chicago. Yes, this store is located near where Cabrini–Green used to be, but it hardly poses a threat these days. There is crime everywhere - that is why you have insurance.

And as for graffiti? Not that it is a complete deterrent, but you can not purchase spray paint in the city of Chicago. So it would require a trip to the suburbs first. #BecauseMayorDaleySaysSo

Just a hip-hop,skip and jump from luxurious Cabrini Green.....dope.

No, seriously, DOPE.

2 pages and no conspiracy theorists mention the "Easter egg" in one of the pictures....

This is macrumors, isn't it ?

;)
