Beautiful. Flat out gorgeous. Ah, must be nice.

Man, the Red Line is going to become mugging/bag-snatching central as of tomorrow. Seriously, do not walk into the subway carrying a cute little Apple bag, people. I have two different co workers who've had iPhones snatched out of their hands on the CTA recently.

apple store architecture worldwide

environmentally sensitive and minimalist, yet bold design, not always popular

as a photographer i commend

Ah, yes there are some nice new stores and trendy bars and restaurants in that part of LP. There can also be, depending on the time of day or night and the amount of yuppie types out and about, some real unsavory characters hanging around. For those who don't have a lot of experience with Chicago, it is a city of neighborhoods, some good, some bad, and often the good and bad border each other.

This part of LP is very popular right now, but I would suggest "leaving with the crowd," before the night life dies down. The city has moved many of the former "Cabrini Greenies" into Section 8 housing about 1 1/2 miles west of the new Apple Store, and apparently not many people have heard about the law banning spray paint, because it's on every bridge and viaduct for miles around, touting one gang or another.

The OP was right; the famous You Tube video concerned an area in Indiana. Still, a little alertness goes a long way. That public transit station has been infested with muggers and thieves for years now, and that's a problem that's not going away anytime soon, especially when there's people with money hanging around there a little too late at night.

Oh, and parking really does suck around there. Doesn't matter, though, because that store will pull in a fortune for Apple, and it looks great.

Good looking store. If anyone goes to the opening and wants to part with the shirt. PM me and maybe we can work something out.

What, no 100 post minimum to have the privilege of posting in this thread? After all the Chicago location could open up a whole new can of worms.

Lincoln Park?

Technically, this store lies between the borders of the Ranch Triangle and Goose Island and is not in Lincoln Park. Ah, but a trendy neighborhood will pull them in!

Talking of new Apple stores, I lost track of the Microsoft Store story. How are they doing and how many of them are there now?

As pointed out, there aren't many. I walked by the one in the Fashion Valley mall in San Diego, it's just a few stores away from the Apple Store there. It really looked like a ripoff copy of the Apple Store...same glass window front, same use of a logo above the entry way, same kind of layout. There were the same kinds of areas for shopping, though there were kids playing XBox games so that area was larger. The big difference was not as many people inside, and the style was not as smooth, lots of bright fluorescent lights instead of the warmer lighting in the Apple Store.

It really just seemed like a pathetic attempt to copy the Apple Store...it was almost sad to see how unoriginal it was.

It was good of them to redo the subway while they were at it, even if it was only to make it prettier around their store, they still spent the dough.

Just a hip-hop,skip and jump from luxurious Cabrini Green.....dope.

No, seriously, DOPE.

Please, I work at Chicago and Larrabee and traverse Halsted and Larrabee all the time. Cabrini has one building left with people in it.

Once they ship them all down to Bloomington/Normal, that building will be gone as well.

I stopped by there yesterday, the station looks great. Much better than mine stop (Western Blue). I may stop in there tomorrow (hopefully in a more private setting).

Lincoln park trixies all excited!!

Clearly you're not from Chicago... right on North there and in the surrounding area there is CB2, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, REI, Container Store, World Market, Banana Republic, JCrew, Victoria Secret, Whole Foods, Restoration Hardware, and a whole bunch of other expensive restaurants and bars. This area is not "hood" by any stretch of the imagination.

You forgot to include the Verizon store just across the street. The area will be rockin' once Verizon gets the iPhone in a few months.

Wonder when there will be Apple Stores in New Zealand. Judging by the mac install base here in NZ, there will probably never be an Apple Store built here. :(
