I wonder if this Magic Keyboard will be compatible with the rumored mini-LED iPad Pro? I would love a trackpad to use with my 2018 iPad Pro 12 inch, but can’t see purchasing this now at $350 and then having to rebuy when I get the mini-LED version whenever that comes out. Especially if it comes out this fall like some of the rumors are saying.

Of course, the 2018 pros will work so this will too. It will be the same as the 2020 model after all

However mini led isn’t expected until 2021

Well, I had high hopes for my Logitech Anywhere 2S mouse being able to take advantage of the new iOS that better supports trackpads, and I hoped a mouse. I'll give it a few more shots. Then I'll have to think hard about the Magic Folio with trackpad for my 2018 iPad. I just can't program the 2S buttons.

Nope.

The idea Jobs would dislike keyboard/trackpad etc is utter nonsense and only makes sense (just about!) in the context of the world standing still at the point he died. Fast forward 10+ years, technology and the platform has evolved logically.

Same applies to the stylus. He was specifically talking about using styli for UI elements & navigation being a big fail. He was right! I had an HTC TyTyn prior to an iPhone, it was a chore using the stylus on a pokey screen to do anything.

Are you seriously telling me Steve Jobs wouldn’t applaud the magnificent abilities of the Apple pencil? That he wouldn’t appreciate the ease with which a tablet can become a very competent typing experience?

It’s an old meme based on stale thinking and it needs to die, like snappier Safari.

Steve was around for up to iPad gen 4 (probably at least during planning for it). Apple pencil did not happen for up to 4 years kind of show he wasnt exactly up for a stylus style input. I think Apple pencil is a good addition.

But trackpad is different. Remember how Steve presented iPad on a couch? That was the style he wanted this product to be - usability like a news paper or a magazine. It's not meant to be put down and station the device on a desk.

Now, I understand things need to change over time since the market changes. My point was that Steve wouldnt like the fact that they couldnt be more creative than making the experience similar to an ordinary laptop.

So use it on a couch 🤷‍♂️ iPad doesn’t need a keyboard and mouse/trackpad, it still has a touchscreen.

No different than not using an Apple Pencil if you don’t want/need it.

I just finished talking to to several Apple Specialists and they all OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED that the new Magic Keyboard "is NOT compatible with the 1st Generation 11-in iPad Pro." It is "only compatible with the 4th Generation iPad Pro."

This link "should be extremely helpful in determining which Keyboard is the perfect fit for you" because it "is NOT compatible with the 1st Generation 11-in iPad Pro": https://www.apple.com/ipad-keyboards/select/?aid=CA-link

But seriously, the quotes are what I was told by multiple Apple Specialists. Why has Apple become so terrible about providing information about their OWN products?
I think you may be a little confused
2015 and 2017 ipad pro were 10.5 inch.
the 2018 had 11 inch. Thus 1st gen 11 inch is 2018 Ipad pro and 2nd gen 2020 one.

$350 keyboard for iPad Pro that has NO place for Apple Pencil storage? Not so magical 🙄
