Can I plug a USB-C hub into it, and a mouse into that, and play shooters? If so, I'm definitely interested.

$350 for a KEYBOARD!

😡🔫

A keyboard is just an accessory for a computer/device and even if it can fly or sing a song it should never cost more than $100 which is already a lot!

You've clearly never used a good keyboard.

Typed on my Logitech Craft, which is sitting in front of my Logitech G910 for my PC.

Well yeah they could have called it the A13X for marketing reasons, but that would have been misleading if it's principally an A12X but with a better GPU.
Agreed but why on earth after 18 months have they not updated the CPU architecture is what I'm getting at.

So for me, the barrier to replacing my laptop with an iPad has always been the lack of pointer support - mainly because of Safari and Citrix - when using it at a desk.

Assuming there's a 14" MBP coming, I think its time to start a spreadsheet to compare the different options, although this is a pricey keyboard!

Whilst I appreciate the elegant design; it really is nice. However, for anyone who thinks this turns an iPad into a “proper” computer then it is evident that they clearly don’t need a proper computer, because it simply doesn’t. The iPad is simply brilliant at what it is (my favourite Apple device and I couldn’t live without it), casual computing, reading, media consumption etc, but it is no workhorse.

You are mired in narrow, old world thinking regarding the definition of what a computer is, based on your own needs and expectations.

I’m a massive computer nerd going back to 1980, have a loft full of beige boxes and always have a desktop & laptop for productivity, and a gaming PC. Along with the iPad and a smartphone, all of these fall under the category of “computer”.

To be clear, an iPad doesn’t nearly deliver everything I need a computer to do. But it can, and does, for some. Hence the label “computer”.

I mean if you look at it, its essentially a super-slim MacBook Pro keyboard. Kinda worth it for the money imo. Laptop-class keys on an iPad keyboard with a trackpad, and not a crappy one knowing Apple. The features it packs too with the "floating" ability. It seems worth it.

Dude... My Ryzen 3 Windows laptop is less than this keyboard... And it comes with, guess what, laptop Keyboard and Windows Precision Trackpad.

To price a keyboard folio for 300 dollars is kinda massively overpriced.

It's great but I'm correct when I say there is no folding this keyboard back on itself like the smart keyboard folio apple currently sells? basically if want to use my iPad in tablet form, handheld, i have no choice but to separate the keyboard from the iPad correct?

Magic Keyboard bluetooth for the Mac is $99
Magic Trackpad bluetooth for the Mac is $129
A smart folio for the iPad Pro is $79
A USB-C Hub that allows you to charge and add an additional USB-C port ~$29

Add it all up: $336

$350 is reasonable.

Not everyone needs a “workhorse”. I have a computer at home. I want something that’s easy to travel with, I can use as a tablet, and is good for light computing tasks. What you described is what 95 percent of the people on this planet use a personal “computer” for. It’s probably best not to assume everyone is exactly like you.

Looks great, but $350? Apple has gotten pretty ridiculous in recent years. (and yes, that comes from someone that has a fully-loaded iMac Pro)

Edit: I may have spoken too soon. I just got a proper look at one and the floating design looks amazing. It looks very well-designed and I'm sure it has a premium feel. I think I might take back what I said above.

When I'm not editing high-end video or processing thousands of photos on the road, I vastly prefer to travel with just my iPad and an external keyboard. Love the portability, weight, and size....and ease of use. I am pretty sure I will be ordering a maxed out version of the new 12.9 iPad Pro with a 2nd-gen Pencil and the new keyboard case when it comes out.

I don’t assume anything and is totally irrelevant what I use or need a computer to do, or think it should do. I’m just stating in my opinion the iPad is a good casual computer and that adding a$350 keyboard doesn’t change that fact or somehow turns it into a MBP / Laptop replacement that Apple continues to suggest.

that's why being these accessories are a waste of money. the form factors are always changing. expect to use them for the current generation they were designed for and that is it.

Also $350 for a keyboard? The empathy levels are very low at apple, with their greed levels on the rise.

It's not greed as they are not competing with other keyboard makers. Were they to put this out at $149 it would be called unfair and would wipe out the competition.

This keyboard looks great and all, but really it's just too pricey for me. And the lack of any kind of function keys is not great....

Everyone moaning and groaning about the $299 keyboard needs to wake up and consider the fact that this does not compete with the $40 USB keyboards they're thinking about at Staples.

To me this is like the convertible roof on a Porsche 911 Targa. It's masterfully engineered and it significantly transforms the daily use of the product. If you don't like the cost, select one of the less expensive Porsches available or maybe leave the Porsche dealership all together if you can't handle their prices.

I totally missed that when looking at it. Good catch. I too would like to know if it can fold back that far to flip around like the current folio.

I also hope the magnets are extra strong (you'd think they would be since it "floats" on the magnetic back and no longer needs to rest on the front edge) and can work through a skin of some sort. I'd like to put a skin on mine for scratch protection when not in the folio/keyboard.

Honestly, if they had just made the keys backlit on the current keyboard folio I'd be perfectly happy with that.
