Hi all,
Wanna know how does the MagSafe works with older iPhones since is backward compatible? Does it “latch” to the back? Would need to have those magnets to work? Does it charges at 15w?
On the other hand, Apple is making their wallet!! I could see people just buys them as standalone use. Since it got magnets, it can have 2 magnetic wallets sticking back to back...
I’m still not totally sold. If i will leave my phone charging I’ll place it carefully in a Qi charger. If I want to use it while charging, I’ll use lightning cable. What *real* problem does this solve?![]()
It apparently functions as a “regular” Qi charger for pre-12 phones that support wireless charging, and “fast” charging for the 12 series. The magnets are merely there to help align the phone without fumbling around.
I would use this exactly the same I use Qi chargers. As a power “access point” in certain common locations. I have one at my work area, kitchen counter and bedside. That way it’s one cable, I’ve found a good way to organize it and work it into furniture/decor/etc and it’s nice to just put the phone on it instead of pulling out a cable each time. Sure you can call that lazy but it’s extremely practical. Also, something about the charger being laid flat on the counter or table looks better than have a cable dangling on it. It’s a cleaner look.I don't get it. So you get this round bit that you attach to your iPhone, and there is a cable that you plug into a USB-C charger. So can someone explain to me how this is "wireless"? There's a cable from the wall to the USB-C charger, then another cable from the USB-C charger all the way to the phone. Cables all the way.
My wife constantly complains about cables lying around. I can see here buying something like this because it is "wireless", assuming it gets rid of the cables, and returning it straight to the store. Because there are just as many cables as before.
What I want to know is how convenient the actual magsafe charger is. I imagine it stays stuck to the phone as you pick it off the night stand, which sounds clunkier than how i want my wireless charger to work.
I am honestly really stoked about apple’s wireless charging solution. One of the things I dislike about wireless charging is that if you need to use your iPhone, then it’s not charging anymore. MagSafe seems to solve that.
Much better than what AirPower would have been tbh
I think if you set it up correctly, you could even attach it to the wall. I could see a “power wall” type thing with a little creativity and design.Same. For me this seems like something that makes wireless charging more difficult. I much prefer the convenience of just setting it down and picking it up. But that’s just me. Others will disagree.
Not something I plan spending money on when I already have Qi chargers around the house. But that said, I do see the utility for things like using the phone mounted in a car.
Pretty sure it will stick to the phone, what's the use of this charger if you still have to manually detach it like with a plug.
I agree it has to pick the puck up, otherwise the car holder would be useless. As I said in another post only Apple could make wireless less wireless.
If the magnet was in the accessory, it would have been possibly to have different magnet strengths depending on application.
Convenience. Not only for charging but for case, for mounting.I’m still not totally sold. If i will leave my phone charging I’ll place it carefully in a Qi charger. If I want to use it while charging, I’ll use lightning cable. What *real* problem does this solve?![]()
I see lots of practical inconvenience and the solution obviously not elegant and it requires additional support like magnets if you put case. The magsafe charger wire by itself looks fragile like most of the Apple supplied cables won't last long. Ideally to combat environment, Apple should have supplied Wires and the MagSafe separately so that you end up only replacing the wire not the entire assembly.I’m still not totally sold. thank the magnets. It allows for the case to not have to surround the edge of the phone to stay on. Instead the magnet holds it on.Finally, FINALLY, Apple releases an official case that protects the BOTTOM of the phone as well. I don't know why every official case made for the 6 and up always left the bottom unprotected but it was so irritating. So happy they knocked that off and went back to the full coverage style of the 5S and older cases.

Yes.
I know, Im just blown away at the amazing technological advancement, its incredible, if Apple keep up this level of innovation they should discover the usb-c soonSheer genius. This in hind sight appears obvious, but why havent we seen this beofre on other smartphones? Whomever came up with this at Apple deserves a bonus. A Starbucks gift card or something for adding god-knows-how-much money to the Apple ecosystem.
Will someone please explain something to me.....I have an iphone 6S Plus and am planning on purchasing an Iphone 12. Have been following the developments re: the MagSafe accessories and charging matt....I am just not understanding the benefit of spending $$$ on the MagSafe charging matt and, therefore, the Mag Safe enabled cases. Can someone please explain to me what the advantages are? I am just having a difficult time figuring this out..ty
thank the magnets. It allows for the case to not have to surround the edge of the phone to stay on. Instead the magnet holds it on.
What else are magnets in our pockets, on our desks, in our bags, likely to mess up?So, you have to buy a apple card holder integrated to your phone or find a wallet that is Safe-from-iPhone-destroying-cards-feature™ to prevent them to do any harm to the cards? A bit ridiculous, no? Also, magnets can mess up a lot of things, not just cards, and **** to get stuck on it, depending how strong it is...
What is that small vertical white area below the circle for? I don't see that in the blue case that has MagSafe.
