In the UK at least, that’s often included in the install cost - Spur from main fuse box, new mini fuse box, a certain amount of cable run, “charger” and cable (tethered or socket).

Back to Apple, I have no problem with them selling the cable separately however they should call it a cable like they do with their other cables. It’s misleading not to.

With the US standard voltage being 120V, in most homes 240V outlets are located only where one might install an electric clothes dryer or other appliance requiring the higher voltage. Thus while most garages likely have 120V/15A outlets available, installing a 240V outlet usually requires running new wiring from the breaker panel. The cost of that can vary widely depending on the home and how difficult it is to run that new power wiring.

As for Apple and naming it a Magsafe charger - they seem to be very consistent in calling the power adapters just that, and only using the word "charger" for the part that comes into direct contact with the device.

Yes, folks out in the real world tend to mix the terms up, but I'm not sure incorrect colloquial usage necessitates a vendor follow suit.

I know this thread is about Apple, but I found what you had to say re car chargers from an American perspective pretty interesting. 👍

I still can't find what is useful on this charger... do you place it on your desk and then you place an iPhone on it? Is it heavy enough to stay on the desk if you move your iPhone close to it or are the magnets stronger, so the charger will hit the back of the iPhone?

Weird product...
The problem I have with my Belkin Qi charger is the need for very accurate placement onto the pad. The magnet should be able to guide you to the exact placement needed for the magnetic induction to work without much trial and error.

Haven’t tried the Belkin but my Anker Qi pads are pretty forgiving. They’re just wider than my XS so it’s easy to set it down centered.

Does the 15W charging only come when plugged into the new fancy wall block, or will it also be 15W if plugged into my MacBook Pro?

Source wattage and charging wattage, particularly with wireless charging, should not be considered equal.

You will most likely not get the full 15w to the phone from a 15w source.

true, there will be inefficiencies, so it won’t convey the full 15W. Point was there should be enough to get above the 7.5w. We shall see what the reality is.

I can’t believe one of these reviewers hasn’t tested that yet...or have they? At a minimum, a charging time analysis with different wattage chargers?
