I know it has sort of been asked in this thread a couple of times...and not answered because I guess we won;t know until the phones are out....Will there be a car vent mount accessory string enough to hold the phone on its own? I don't even care about charging as I plug my phones in when driving for CarPlay/charging. I just want it to hold the phone.

I've used Rokform cases for years now and love them, but since I got my XSmax, taking the case off every night to wirelessly charge because of the magnet in the case is a slight pain.

I also use their magnet mounts in other places like the kitchen and even in the shower so I can listen to music (yeah...that's what I'm doing in there..."listening to music"....)

Apple's presentation briefly showed a vent mount, presumably from Belkin.

Scoshe has had a Qi charging magnetic mount -- the magnets straddle the Qi coil. Speck had a matching Presidio case with correspondingly internal metal plates to go with the mount. I use this system with my XS. Best of both worlds - charging magnetic mount for the car and a case that doesn't interfere with using other Qi pads.

Thanks for all of that! I guess I didn't research enough. Rokform also has a physical attachment feature that I use with my bike...but willing to give all of that up if there are better options out there.

Maybe they'll even step up and adjust their cases now that Apple has magnets!

Wouldn't apple limiting Qi to 7.5w while giving their own wireless charger 15w max be an unfair business advantage? If an iPhone 12 user wants fast charging they can only buy the apple charger. Kind of seems like it to me especially since we already know Qi is capable of 15w charging. This seems like what fornite, spotify etc are upset about.

It remains to be seen whether the limitation applies only to non-Magsafe chargers or applies to all non-Apple chargers.

With third parties producing the magsafe puck (Mpow and presumably Belkin), we should see pretty soon.

So this is compatible with older iPhones that support wireless charging, but they don't have the magnet that helps align the coils. Hopefully Apple or other case makers will release MagSafe cases to support the older phones. It would be nice to lay my phone down without needing to make sure it's in the perfect spot.

So to disconnect from the magsafe once charged, one has to hold the charger to release? Hmmm
Won't know for sure until it's released, but guessing we could just slide the charger off with our fingers on the back while picking it up...just like the way most of us probably take the Apple Watch off its magnetic charger with one hand.

Apple claim they made the magnets strong and you can see the Magsafe snapping, so the law of physics says, you need to put equal amount of effort to snap it off :) and enjoy the click-clack sound.. :D

Here’s a pic of the Belkin vent mount from the event.

Looks like a beast to me.

I literally just want the vent clip and a circle magnet that grabs the phone. As low profile as possible.

depending on price point, i want the watch/phone combo charger. 39$, for apple, actually isn't that bad for the phone charger only.

Appears to depend on whether you’ve glued it down... :p
Yea or I doubt it will take IKEA long to either make a desk/table etc with a way to slide the charger in perfectly so it is held in place when you remove the iPhone, and/or they will make furniture with the charger built in

This is where I see and understand the complaints about Apple's walled garden

They should allow Qi to be 15w as well as their own charger
Exactly, they preach about the environment but come out with something else proprietary.

Yep. Or on appropriate surfaces a couple strips of 3M VHB tape would do the job too.

Speaking only for myself - 15W charging is a solution to a problem I've simply not had. In all the time I've used Qi pucks, the 7.5W limit hasn't been a limiting factor. Probably because I placed pucks at the locations I usually set my phone down anyway (kitchen side-counter, home office desk, etc). So my phone infrequently gets low on battery, and I thus don't need to charge it in a rush.
