The issue is, lots of sports apps out there have a bunch of stuff I don’t care about, like video commentary, ads, editorials, etc. An app with just scores taking up the entire screen is nice. The closest thing out there is Sports Alerts. I do like Apple’s design a bit more.
Agreed. That's what I love about Sports Alerts. The Apple one will stay on my phone and will have to earn its way to my second screen to replace Sports Alerts, only when it does live activities, notifications and widgets. You know, basic iOS things. And an iPad app.

I see massive amounts of bitching here about a free app that’s 1.0 and has no ads (at least at this point).

Does anyone really think Apple isn’t going to add leagues, watch support, additional countries/languages, features, etc.? Free apps like this are always the beginning, not the finished product.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I take back some of the stuff I said about certain things missing from the start, as I know that some of these things take good time to implement even if they have to be temporarily missing from version 1.0

So with that, better for them to take the time to iterate what they need to for those features, and then once all that's ready then release the updates. Could they have waited to release an app with those features already baked in? Absolutely, but I guess someone was eager to get this out there even if that means it's missing some key features that the others have...

I'll definitely be back to this app once those features are added though!

I downloaded it, but man, there are so many basic Apple things missing from the app right now. I'll keep it installed and hope for some updates down the road.
Not sure how much more they’ll add. It seems like simplicity was the intent.

I downloaded the app just to take a look at it after reading the comments. It is seriously deficient and missing more than one major professional sport - NFL missing is like having a giant sinkhole and not warning anyone.

I just deleted the app.

It looks decent for sports I don’t really pay much attention to but may want to glance at results for now and again, like American sports. As a hardcore soccer fan though I’ll be sticking with FotMob; it has pretty much every stat for every league.

You could make that argument about nearly anything. "Oh, there are email apps...there are calendar apps...why would Apple do anything?" This is clearly a strategy about moving more into sports coverage. Rumor was they were bidding for NFL Sunday Ticket before Google won it. They clearly see monetization here.
If this app represents the quality of what they plan to do with sports, this part of their business strategy is in big trouble.

Step 4: release it in America without including motor sports or NFL
It’s a sports score app. What is the point in currently including NFL when there won’t be a score to report on in…6 months? It’s not delivering news, just the scores.

It provides "betting odds". What happened to Apple being pure and wholesome?
Man, I like things that Apple has done, but when was a company run at times by Steve Jobs ever wholesome?

Absolutely. I second this. iTunes alone, and the music industry, has his handprints all over it.
The music industry has their hands all over apple. Go read through Michael Darius twitter/threads posts about what happened at/to Apple

Took a look at this today. Felt like I went back in time when apps were non existent and iPhone just came out.
