I bet there still won't be an option for a matte screen so that more people will be squeezed up into buying a MB Pro. Many people prefer a glossy screen, many people like both, but many other people strongly prefer matte. Oh well, since glossy screens are less expensive than matte screens I bet the lower end Macs will be glossy-only from now on.

I would hope not. Even though I only deal with pro Macs, I have to say I can't stand a glossy screen. In my opinion it takes away from the visuals a great deal. I would hope that machine status wouldn't determine screen quality. A choice should be allowed regardless.

wtf morrisman, take it easy. that laptop mock-up is awesome. of course it's not practical, it's a fantasy. things off the assembly line will never look quite as beautiful as we dream they'll be. they're never practical enough.

well done deputylove8, good photochop. i like how you used imac elements to make it up. the alu/black look is amazing, i hope to see it incorporated into the macbooks.

OMG OMG OMG. I'm so excited. I've been saving for 2 whole summers (part time work) to get my hands on one of these rumored babies! :D

Hey, I feel totally the same way, but I'm a realist. Apple is a company just like any other, so they're gonna try to produce their low end machines with as few options and the least expensive standard parts that they can get away with. That means the less expensive glossy screens are probably gonna be the only choice on Apple's low end machines from now on.

Not giving an option will probably turn many customers away from buying a new Mac, but I guess Apple's bean counters determined that they'd make up the lost sales by pushing a small percentage of buyers up to the MB Pro with its significantly higher margins.

Thats disappointing, I want to hurry up and replace my Core Duo 1.83GHz MB I've had for two years now. I dont want to wait until September, though it wouldn't really surprise me.

I'm still expecting aluminum case, LED LCD, multitouch, slightly thinner and lighter. The reduced power draw of the CPUs - 25W instead of 35W - will reduce battery usage, and tests show people getting 4+ hours already, so Apple can stop increasing battery life and start making the battery slightly smaller. Though if they didn't I wouldnt be upset (I'll take 5-6 hours of battery life).

Plus, the new chipset is also supposed to include integrated video decoders for MPEG2, VC-1 and H.264 so I can watch H.264 movies and not kill my battery either.

Well hey. . glad I'm a pro man.

With the distinguishing line between the MacBooks and MacBook Pros quickly fading away, my suggestion is that they just get rid of the MacBook Pro line and just call all of them just MacBooks. It'll be a much more simplified line-up:

13" MacBook (Multicolored): Superdrive, Integrated Graphics Chipset

15" MacBook (Silver & Black): Superdrive, SSD optional, Dedicated Graphics 512MB

17" MacBook (Silver & Black): Bluray Superdrive, Dedicated Pro Graphics Card

I wonder if Apple would ever incorporate the glossy screen into their cinema display, lets hope not.

i waited so long for a new rumor and this is a bad one.. even though i am going to buy the mbp... but i would have considered the mb but now no need -__-
and i guess mbp update shouldnt change cause it already has a led screen...

I wish it was ready to ship tomorrow. I sold my 2.16 C2D MB a couple days ago. A matte screen sure would be nice. I've considered the talk about the MB being the low end, therefore not having some of the popular options. I'm reminded of the Nissan Altima starting out low end. It gained popularity and soon became an economical alternative to the larger pricier Maxima.

If it's just stainless steel, it might be a bit heavy...

wait wait wait,,, WHAT??? Where did the stainless steel rumours come from??? Can anyone say fingerprint magnet? O_о

My 12" PB isn't a fingerprint magnet. What are you on about? The white and black plastic is much worse for that.

this is really making buying a laptop for college hard

You are not the only one...since my girl is going back to university it was perfect excuse for me to buy her new laptop...and nowi am not sure if MacBook will out before she starts...their timing is way off...Educational buying season is already in high gear and they may loose potential sales if that MacBook is late because people are going to wait or go for better spec PC.....:(

i would love to see a big update at WWDC, but i doubt we will. maybe there will be another event in this timeframe though, to release the very new and updated macbooks

The only other option would be a 13.3" MacBook Pro to replace the old 12"...

A 13.3" MBP?! I would kill for one of those!! Oh my, how I miss my old 12" PB. :(

Oh well, at least I can still dream about a 12" MBP. Are you reading this Apple? People are willing to do anything for a small Pro-line laptop.

I've always wondered why Apple doesn't target releases for the back-to-school and December holiday seasons. Releases in January certainly don't fit either of those. My guess is that Apple releases products when they are ready (or the next Tuesday after they are ready) and don't fret which month it is.

If this rumor is true, they might hit the school season this time.

Mac is more commercial based, where companies like Dell, HP, Lenovo or MPC receive vast majority of sales during the Gov or SLE buying seasons so their new products timing is set to August/September (end of Gov buying season) and May/June (SLE buying season). There are lots of factors which will influence reals schedule....

You know what? I'm sick of people drooling over the next rendition of the basic same computers we have been buying since 1987.

me too... but we keep coming back to mac rumors, so I guess it's to be expected :p

Huh?

The other "major" upgrade needs to be the long awaited blu-ray drive, or I think I will wait for the next upgrade.

Yep, I'm sure the 80 or so of you will be stoked.

I don't get what the fascination with blu-ray drives is. Sure, you can watch movies, but what else comes on blu-ray? PS3 games aren't going to work.
