Do you have to be upgrade ready with your carrier to utilize the Apple upgrade program?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm still under contract with AT&T until April 2016, but I'm guessing you probably have to be upgrade ready in order to use Apple's program. Otherwise wouldn't AT&T charge an ETF for breaking the contract early?

Not sure how all this works because it seems to me you're bypassing your Carriers upgrade with Apple

The upgrade program through Apple has nothing to do with AT&T or any other carrier, you're just getting an unlocked phone from them. This wouldn't effect your AT&T contract in any way.

Apples upgrade plan is completely separate from the carriers. You do have to activate the phone if you get it through the apple payment plan, but it is unlocked.

Even if you activate it that does not mean you terminate your contract. However, if you are still in a 2 year agreement you will still have your 40$ line fee until that 2 years is up. Also same with next, edge, device payment etc.

Basically you can get the iphone from the apple payment whenever you want, but you have to activate it and still have to fulfill the payments on any existing phones from your carrier (separate).

I've heard that using the mobile app works best in situations like tonight, but will that be the case for setting up a reservation for the upgrade program?

So will I be able to keep my grandfathered unlimited data from AT&T?

Hello.. finally makin the switch from android to iphone..quick question. For the iphone upgrade program. Will i be making a reservation to go to a store and applying for the iphone upgrade program, or will i be applying here when it goes live? And then just pick up at the store? Thanks in advance...
What do yall recommend the 6s or 6s plus?

Apple.com is down, The App isn't working either. But the Developer portal is up. How much money do you think Apple loses by not having their online store down for this long lol?

1. I think that the confusion with the 12.99% interest rate comes from the financing option that Apple offered before the Apple Upgrade Program.

2. While I've been looking around, I haven't been able to figure out how does one enroll into the Upgrade program. Do you still need to pre-order and then make a store appointment? Do you only make a store appointment?

Yeah www.apple.com is down (Friday night US, Saturday arvo Australian time).
Weird.

Might be they are DDOS'ed :) either that or something else is very screwed up. It's going to be very interesting to see how long the site will be down.

So far no communication from Apple. It's weird they don't have a redirect page or some process to inform people.

There hasn't been much communication from anybody, I'm surprised I'm not reading about this on 9to5Mac or Macrumors already lol
