I doubt the bottleneck is software as they can manufacture in advance and load the software at the last minute and then package and ship. The issue is usually a combination of component availability and not wanting to store parts en mass. When you engage in JIT manufacturing there are a bunch of things that have to align to avoid bottlenecks.
I agree it isn't the software. Making a new product like the X is difficult and requires a ramp up of all the components. The 8 is a bit easier, but it has a new processor, new glass, etc. that still take some ramp up time.

I wanted the X but everythingsapplepro has been honest the notch and the slimmer display going from a plus means the x is gonna feel smaller as its taller but width is slimmer so might go for 8 plus

That's BS Apple, after how many years, they should have data on having a very precise stock for the first week or month of launch, and zero reason to have back orders, but they purposely do this to make it sound better.

zero reason? how about product life cycle and time to manufacture? You want them to freeze the design extra months earlier so they can make and store tens of millions before launch day? The rumor mill is active enough as it is. Sorry, you are ignoring realistic manufacturing issues... suppose they did ramp up production months ahead to meet the peak demand at release, are they then to lay off all the people to meet normal manufacturing demand? They do this to balance dozens of issues you aren't even taking into account other than your desire for zero wait.

Does anyone think X might drop in price come x'mas or at least have few things bundled in like say wireless charger or usb c fast charger? I'd be happy to wait a few months, but will I be waiting for nothing?

You're joking right? They have dropped prices or bundled items twice in my memory, with the iPhone 1 when Steve decided he over priced it, and then with iPhone whatever antenna gate when they gave away free 1$ rubber bumpers. But please do wait so the rest of us have a shot at your phone.

The size of apps is getting much larger. I have several apps (that are not games) on my phone that are well over 300 MB in size. Most apps were nowhere near that large when the iPhone capacities to choose from were 16, 32, and 64 GB.

You are aware in IOS 11 that there is a new feature that will retire apps you have not used in a large time to free up space right? If you have that many apps on your phone that take up 64 gb my guess is there are a lot that don't get used that often. 64 gb is plenty for apps. You need more if you have a large song collection you wish to actually carry , or a movie collection. In any event, its silly to say 64 gb is too small for the average consumer.

Expect the 8 plus to be discounted soon after. Have to believe this thing is going to tank hard. Plus customers are waiting for the X, unless the plus is nicely discounted.

you are discounting the people that want the home button and don't want face id. Its not going to tank.

Watch tomorrow Apple says sold out. The iPhone 8 is a great success.

Not true whatsoever. The engineering takes a long time and sometimes it doesn't leave enough time for manufacturing to keep up. Even if manufacturing has longer than normal, maybe yield rates are low so they're producing components at a lower rate. In other words, supply chain is still an issue even if they forecast correctly.

At 3:01AM EST I’ll be doing the same as 2:01AM. Sleeping.

Good luck to those in the market.

Words of wisdom: If delivery dates slip to more than few days by the time you can order. Just wait and buy in store.

Every year we have this cycle. Person A buys with 4-6 week delivery window. Person B orders for in store pickup a few days after release. Person A gets mad that they have to wait. Don’t be person A.

I have a late 2015 Samsung 65" 4KHD TV, so will it benefit from the new Apple Tv or do I need an HDR rated TV with the 4K? Thanks!

You'll get the benefit of 4K but not the benefit of HDR. I personally wouldn't scuttle a 4K TV just to get a replacement with HDR, but that's me.

However if I were in the market for a TV right now, I'd be looking for 4K that supports Dolby Vision and HDR10.

Yes they purposefully don't make enough phones because they don't want the billions in revenue it would bring by selling the phones. <rolls eyes>

Waiting up till 3am to order a new LTE Series 3 watch... I'm super pumped about that. I'l probably get a 4K Apple TV later on this fall too. But this is the first year in a while I've not had any interest in the phones. The 8 Plus feels like the sweet spot of the three, but it's not that much better than my 7.

iPhone 7 with iOS 11 is just really, really good.

Thanks for ditching the 128 GB option Apple!

64gb is too small, 256 is way too much for most users...

seriously. I have 89gb if used space on my current iPhone. I have no use whatsoever for a 256gb on a phone. But I also have to much crap to comfortably fit it on 64gb. If they had priced it as if they just took out the top tier model then it would have been cool. But pricing it as if they just took out the low end model is some kind of new bs. First time I’m genuinely mad at apple for their greedy asses

The X I could see being pumped up for and pre-ordering, the but the 8 ? No, the only real world difference is wireless charging. Sure the A11 is much better, but day in day out making phone calls, sending texts, watching YouTube, reading websites, and send e-mails, the A10 last year was plenty powerful already, and the A11 won't make a lick of difference in those daily use of a smartphone.

So coming from an iPhone 7 Plus to an 8 Plus is just burning your money. Coming from a 6S Plus to a 8 Plus, ok, that's a good upgrade, and anything older, yes absolutely then the 8 Plus is a great update.

coming from 6 plus?

Brought iPhone 2007-2015 first day/preorder day. Skipped 2016 model (iPhone 7 plus, pre-ordered it for my wife like on Sunday, 2.5 days after preorder went live and still got it at launch day delivery for my wife)

I'm skipping this pre order altogether.

Like everyone. I'm waiting for the X. My 6S plus is still running well. The iPhone 6 Plus was sucked with lack of memory but the 6S plus is rock solid.

I may even wait for real sales come thanksgiving since carriers have zero real promo this year. I don't like the att bogo no monthly credits deal (add a line/direct tv requirement). Even though I have att fiber and DIRECTV and att unlimited plus and can add a line and convert to lte iPad line )

Truth. I had no trouble the Saturday morning after launch reserving a 6S+ and picking it up in store. No long lines, already had the phone reserved, I was in and out under 10 minutes.
