Hopefully some new exciting watch bands on offer. And maybe a phone or two. BTW, anyone know a good place to buy a new up to date computer? You know, like the ones Apple used to make when they actually made computers.

I keep wondering if this is just a marketing trick or is the store technically really that bad that it can't add/update products within seconds? Just imagine Amazon would go down for hours each time they add a new product. Why would they voluntary loose half a day of business?

I suspect what they are doing is a live replication / scale. The store is not that complex. The need to have it in a ready state to be slammed now thats a different story. I doubt that takes the full 6 hours they are devoting to it. This is also a great time to do work on back end equipment as the store is down and no one is upset cause new what ever is coming. If i was the operations guy today would be like a marathon that started at like 3 AM getting the deployment ready for today. Operations team Da real MVP of apple new hardware days

If Apple responds to decreasing Android handset prices and uses the savings from reusing the basic design for a third year, they might do something like this:

SE: $399
6S: $499 6SE Plus $599
7: $599 7Plus $749 (because you get dual camera)

Yes, I know some people are predicting price increases. But I can't see how the 7 can get a price increase and not get the dual camera that the 7 Plus gets. And I just don't see how Apple can hold the line on last year's prices all the way through 2017 while shipping (A) the same form factor for a third year and (B) Android prices dropping to $399 for Plus sized phones with very good specs (and those are 2016 prices, probably 2017 prices drop further).

So if Apple holds the line, do you get the bump in size and the dual camera for only $100 more or do you have to pay $150 more?
SE $399
6S: ??? Maybe $549 to not encourage buying it over the 7 but still leaving an option for folks who want jack and to save $100. Since the 6 continues to sell in buckets, there are folks who want to save that $100.
7: $649 7Plus $799 (because dual camera, maybe more memory to start with like 64gb as well).
With memory and camera upgrades, I wouldn't think Apple will be saving too much on costs this year.

Before someone says it, they do it for hype, and it works.

Of course they could silently update the store, they could do it within seconds.

And 6 hours of no business is nothing, they'll recuperate it within minutes once the store is back up.
Not necessarily. I'm sure there's a lot of logic/code behind the store that needs testing/updating. Also from a resources POV, it's easier to push lots of people to a static page until the store is ready and potentially redirect everyone to heavily cached store once it launches.

On a funny note, nice to see the Similar threads output the same stories ahead of launch days...

This closing seems much earlier than I remember for past reveals. With the recent rumor that FoxConn is already shipping units, could it be possible that Apple will open preorders immediately following the keynote?

Maybe I'm just letting my excitement influence my logic

That would never happen

Maybe preorders go live today? :(

Kind of early for the takedown of the store so maybe Apple is adding server capacity...
steve jobs would've never taken down the apple online store down ahead of today's iphone 7 event.
What would he do?

The global supply chain is amazing. I can order something from Apple and track it from China to my door over just a handful of days. And the shipping is done so efficiently and at such scale that it doesn't even cost me the consumer much.

I don't know if people are predicting price increases... But Apple can justify keeping the same price because of what you are getting.. Double the storage space along compared to that same price point a year ago. Better cameras, an whatever other features that will be iPhone 7 exclusive

Closing the Apple store doesn't cost sales. Customers will buy what they would have during the closure afterwards, or buy from another retailer. At the end of the day, the sale is still made, and revenue still goes to Apple. If Amazon were to close, there's nothing to stop customers buying the product elsewhere, and since they aren't typically Amazon-branded products, those sales are lost revenue to Amazon.
