Just to inform you who don't know. The store is NOT down with a back soon label. The website is actually crashing with a no response error! Which can quite possibly be due to a hack etc.... But lets hope not.

Many companies have been devastatingly hacked: Sega, Sony, etc.

They could simply be transferring servers. Perhaps the Apple Store will now be run out of the North Carolina data center?

Seems reasonable, why would people vote this down? Not everything is an attack or new product release.

Weird, the main store still seems to be down but I did just get my order page to appear. Looks like day 4 of processing :( I did order it on a Saturday and configured a bit though.

Meaningless statistic.

Particularly for Apple since most of their customers are extremely unlikely to go somewhere else. If they go to another site for the same product, that harms them very little.

My guess would be they are just upgrading the site capacity since they have a significant product launch coming up.

I saw something interesting on Google Chrome when trying to access the apple store. Has this feature (red box message) been there always or just recently added?

Not really

If Apple does 50% of its sales online, every hour the store is down is costing the company $6.6 million based on last qtr sales

...and I'm sure nobody will try to get in and buy what they already wanted before the downtime. Now everyone will want HP and Dell and a Galaxy Tab.

Wasn't there a rumor a while back that said they may upgrade their online store in the future? This could be it!

Its anonymus. They have like most of us gotten fed up with loads of pre pubescent teens hoarding the Apple stores checking their god damn facebook and generally making the place look untidy with no intention of buying anything whilst they are in there!!! Its my biggest gripe with ANY Apple store. LOL!
