Got my ML code after 120.5 hours. I got the "no receipt provided" email twice! After the second one, I wrote an email to uptodate support and got the code within the hour.

Ridiculous.

I have had that twice. I just sent it for a 3rd time with 5 attachments if I don't get it this time I'll be ringing support.

Ringing support is of no use. I spent 45 minutes talking to them and they just said they have a special department handling that and can't do anything. This is unbelievable and I have lost hope that I will ever get it. I have been waiting since 25th July.

I'd actually understand if they were delaying the release of the OS, or some hardware product. We're talking about redeeming a $20 coupon they promised when they sold the hardware over a month ago. They're making the process of obtaining the upgrade we were promised about as appealing as going through security at the airport. Customers who forked over many thousands of dollars for a product that includes a reputation for and promise of superior customer service are now being treated as presumed thieves over a $20 transaction.

People say that Steve Jobs being gone has nothing to do with this, but this whole fiasco has the fingerprints of a money-grubbing corporate hack all over it. If this is the direction that Apple is headed, then that company will soon be dead to me.

I think you make my point that people are taking this too seriously and reading too far into it.

No, they don't. If a company makes 8.8 billion profit. If a company declares througn its chief designer, that they are not in it for the money. It is DSGUSTING they are alienating people who fork out premium money, long and hard savings sometimes, and then hassle them like mad, because after a mistake the company made it desn't wanna risk handing out a $20 voucher undeservedly...

that's small, tedious and slightly sickening....

On wednesday, excited about ML. I went to the Up to Date page expecting to get my new OS.

Had to fill out a stupid form. Ok.. kind of a pain, but understandable.
ANGER LEVEL 0.5

Got to the end of the form and realized I needed a "scan" of my invoice? Why can't they just take my order number and verify that I completed the order? I bought it from the apple online store...
ANGER LEVEL 1.0

Ok Apple.. jumped through your hoops, I should get my code in few hours... by the time I went to bed, no code.
ANGER LEVEL 2.0

Waited 3 days while my friends who did not spend THREE-*****-THOUSAND dollars on a new laptop were happily running ML.
ANGER LEVEL 7.0

GOT A ***** REJECTION LETTER AFTER WAITING 3 DAYS!
ANGER LEVEL 9.0

NOW WAITING AFTER RESUBMITTING FOR 2 MORE DAYS!
ANGER LEVER REACHING CRITICAL!

Not sure what you are talking about. I put in my apple.com order info and did not have to attach any copy of the receipt.

If you did not buy from apple then you do need to provide it. I waited 3 days for my code. The later you applied the linger you might wait.

I'm glad I waited. Filled in application this morning and sent it off. About ten seconds later the content code arrived, followed seconds later by the password! Impressed. There is yet hope! :)

After 144-hours I finally got the code.

1st submission, approved, sent pdfs without passwords. Called Apple support, said he would reissue them. Instead, I got denied because my reseller wasn't authorized.
Called Apple support and he said to resubmit
2nd submission, no response.
1st email to up-todate no response.
Called Apple Support and he said he could do nothing, just email up to date support and that I was denied on the basis of not having a 'complete' receipt.
2nd email to up to date no response
Filed an additional claim
3rd email to up to date no response
Got another denial claim without any information.
etc etc etc

After 7 emails, 144 hours, 4 Calls to Apple, filing a BBB complaint, contacting my reseller, I got my code. Absolutely ridiculous.
Last time I spend that much money on an Apple computer that supports absolutely nothing but it's own Apps. Retina

How is this about money? To err is human. Humans work at Apple. They made some mistakes and things went wrong. I don't see a financial reason why they would delay codes.

The fact that they didn't release codes based on serial. Suddenly, you needed to provide a receipt. Why does it matter where you purchased from? It's a digital download. There is really no expense other than the bandwidth. Sure, they put a boat load of money into it, but what is better?
1. Satisfying the large majority and avoiding news stories of screw ups.
2. Doing what they did and steering users away from future purchases.

It was a $20 upgrade code, if it was $400 like Windows, I'd understand.
The thing that got me was receipts. This would mean a user would have to manually approve the request. Think about the amount of computers sold between that period and the release of mountain lion. This would be impossible for them to reach the 72-hour approval mark. They must've underestimated their own sales or staffing.

iphone
iphone 3g
iphone 3gs
iphone 4
iphone 4s
iphone 6g? I don't think so. iPhone 5 or the new iPhone.

Apparently we need to re-write how we count. I propose we now say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10. Yeah. I like that better.

I'm having similar problem. My first rejection was last Friday. Since then, I've resubmitted 2 times to have both rejected. I've submitted notification of purchase, notification of shipment, ackowledgment of order, shipping detail, "Thank You" online receipt from Apple.ca, screenshots of my Macbook Pro with Retina display, photos of my macbook pro with serial numbers. Apple rejected ALL OF THEM! They gave me a string of reasons.

"Receipt was not provided
Receipt is missing purchase date
Date of purchase is outside of the offer
Offer has expired
Receipt does not show purchase of a qualifying product
Offer is exclusively for end users. Resellers are not eligible
Order was not received within 30 days of purchase
Duplicate Order
Purchases must be through an authorized reseller
Proof of purchase is illegible for qualifying product
Offer is limited to 1 upgrade per qualifying system
Proof of purchase is illegible for both purchase date and or qualifying product
Proof of purchase is illegible
Receipt does not indicate product was paid for and received
Receipt is missing part number"

All of them don't apply to me! I read my fine prints you jerks from Apple! I purchased June 15, not within the time period which requires registration to Up to Date within 30 days.

I phoned Apple customer service, and apparently they couldn't escalate my problem to the higher level through telephone but rather putting a note beside my profile in their database. WTF. Simple electronic validation. I have the Macbook registered and purchased under my name; I see it in my Apple.ca account!! This is the worst customer service I've EVER experienced. Worse than from any companies I've dealt with in China, Canada, and US. I was really looking forward to Apple. Saved money. Waited until I'm about to go into University. Switched to Apple. I got slapped right in the face. I suspect I'll be "Appled" again and again for the years to come.

I had very similar issue. Just couldn't figure out what's wrong. As a last resort, I re-filled the form. And for some reason this last time it didn't even ask me to submit the receipt. I was so surprised and, lo and behold I immediately got 2 e-mails with PDF and code. I then tried to figure out why original requests using same information didn't work by comparing old rejection e-mail with latest e-mail with code. The only difference I observed was all earlier requests had an additional space between my first name and last name. I am not sure if that is real issue here but one theory I thought was - this time my name and address matched my Apple ID info. Since the MacBook was already registered under same ID, it didn't ask me for receipt.

I could be very well wrong about those 2 points but for folks who are in similar boat, there is no harm in trying to confirm these two things. The other possibility is that my MacBook serial number was not in the system earlier and somehow it got in there.

Anyways, hope this helps someone!

Based on Apple's history, they are not going to call it the iPhone 6. Call me stupid, I don't care. I wouldn't name my product lineup this way, but apple does. Place your hostility elsewhere. Peace.

Got a working download code in 30 minutes after submitting the form. Live in Germany.

Got 3rd rejection today....on phone with apple, and again nothing. Sent them the pics of he receipt and box again, this time if hey deny it, I will go to best buy and make them deal with it.

Up-To-Date - Worst Apple Experience Ever

I have been an Apple user since 1980 when I got my Apple ][.

Mostly, I have been impressed with the quality of Apple's support for their products, generally knowledgable employees and, of course, the quality of their products.

I recently added a Macbook Air to my arsenal of Apple gear and waited for the latest iteration so that I would be eligible for the Mountain Lion update.

I have been trying since July 25th to get this sorted out but as of now 8/8/2012, I have not had anything but massive amounts of frustration.

My first submission was rejected for 'Receipt is missing part number.'

It looked totally visible to me but I rescanned and resubmitted (multiple images this time). Again, it was rejected for 'Receipt is missing part number.'

I resubmitted several times with better quality images and different parts of the receipt (it was too long of a tape to fit the whole thing into one readable image).

Finally, on 8/5/2012, I called AppleCare and spent over an hour on the phone (mostly on hold) trying to get some help. They told me they 'escalated the issue' and would email a case number. They also suggested that I send an email to uptodatesupport@apple.com with all of my details and the images of the receipt. I did that and and I never got the email with the case number until 4:16pm on 8/7/2012 while I was on the phone with AppleCare the second time.

The second AppleCare call resulted in more of the same 'send your stuff to uptodatesupport and we will escalate the case, blah blah.'

I was on the phone with them for almost 2 hours today and was very polite and patient but insistent that I did not want to hangup until I got some kind of remedy or something else we could do besides more of the same that is clearly not working. I eventually got on with a 'call director' who was rude and kept calling me 'man.' who basically told me 'there is nothing else I can do man.'

I am REALLY pissed off at Apple. I have never in 30+ years felt so unvalued as a customer by Apple and I almost want to take this MBA back and start using Linux exclusively (that would be difficult since I support their products in my business but not impossible). I am not sure I like the direction the OS is taking anyway and DEFINITELY don't like the direction their support is taking.

This should have been EASY. A coupon card, or just using the serial numbers in the app store, or a thousand other ways I can think of besides this circus of pain.

I still have not received mine. Got a nice customer service survey from apple about the support call, and I blasted them. Maybe that might prompt a little action.

Apparently some people can't tell the difference between hostility and sarcasm. So sad.
