I was happy to get an email from Apple this afternoon, only to realize that it was one of disappointment, and not one deserving of excitement. Here's what it said:

The image I uploaded was a picture of the laptop itself. I am now realizing what they meant. I am away on vacation though, so I don'w have my receipt with me. Can I just screenshot my digital receipt?
This is my 3rd day waiting bro and I think I'm gonna be forced to do this anytime today.
The hiccups may be going away, at least for some. I applied for my code a couple of hours ago. I received the two e-mails from Apple a few minutes later.
We are unable to process your request for OS X Mountain Lion because of the following:
Purchases must be through an authorized reseller
WTF APPLE!!
I've been denied my up-to-date order (after waiting 4 days)
Are they ****ing stupid? i ordered it from the online apple store. I gave them a screenshot of my invoice, that i got FROM the official online store as well as the order number.
The whole process is pathetic anyway they only accepted images to be uploaded, 'a scan' as they called it, not everyone bought retail products, in fact i'd assume most bought it online.. ok so we'll all print off our invoice and then re-scan it back in.
Also struggling to like post Steve Jobs Apple. Always been a massive fan but lately i'm finding myself more annoyed at them than anything.
After waiting three and a half days I decided to purchase Mountain Lion for $19.99 from the App Store. While waiting for it to download I took the time to write a description of the efforts I went to get my upgrade and filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This was after making two phone calls to Applecare and sending two follow up emails with no response.
I really want to like the post-Jobs Apple, and I want Tim Cook to succeed. He seems like a very genuine guy who wants to do the right thing. But the complete lack of respect shown to all the loyal consumers in this one forum gives me reason to seriously question Apple's future. And it certainly doesn't inspire me to want to buy any of Apple's stock. I hope they learn something from this and find a way to prevent it in the future.
Good luck to the rest of you who continue to wait for you precious code. If you decide to go the same route as me, you can file your complaint at www.bbb.org. It takes less than five minutes to fill out the forms.
