I’m glad Apple responded to this and are working to bring the app to iOS/tvOS.

The ridiculous comments from, it would seem, Apple fanboys or at least non gamers about customers buying from Steam exclusively are quite deluded and unrealistic and really just a desperate attempt to defend Apples decision here when in fact, that wasn’t the reasoning at all. Which would make sense, because that reasoning is invalid and would never happen.

Have we read the same thing?

It is my first post in Steam-Valve case so I don't know to what you respond in general, but buying from Steam vs. the App Store did play the role here.

Apple also don't need Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Google Maps/Waze, etc. but block those apps and see what happens to their user base.

Just look at the failed Homepod when they restrict it to Apple Music only. It's DOA.

Do you work at Apple, do you know what it should achieve?

Maybe it was designed as a gadget for Apple Music users to entangle them in the Apple ecosystem even more.

Think about all those 600 000 users of HomePods. Do you think they can easily switch to Spotify now?

What exactly is the point of this app anyway? From what I'm reading, it lets you stream Steam games from a PC over the local WiFi network. What exactly is the benefit here? If you're already home, might as well play the games directly on the PC with less lag and smoother gameplay?

I'm annoyed that an app was approved and then denied afterwards; that's a bait and switch and Apple basically caused Valve to waste their time. However I'm trying to understand the actual point of this app.

Sometimes it’s just nice to play games on a bigger screen and on a couch.. it’s not really that complicated. It just allows for a bit more versitality.

After being at work all day sat in front of a computer, I don’t feel like sitting in front of another. Sometimes I do want to play with a keyboard and mouse. It’s nice being able to take my PC games to a console like setting.

And most people does not in any way need Apple.

Personally I value my Steam library more than my iTunes library, since, well... I don't use it any more, because Spotify and Netflix is superior.

How the heck are you comparing steam to iTunes, Spotify and neflix, all are completely different things for different uses....make some sense man...

I recommend you to buy a console, but you probably don’t want too because that’s kind of obvious.

That's irrelevant, I am not sure what your comment contained but my response was to those who said a reason behind the app store rejection was because Apple didn't want customers to buy from Steam instead of the app store. From what you're saying, you don't seem to be one of those people.

Apple need Steam but Steam don't need Apple. Tread carefully Apple.

It's amazing that they pull this **** on Valve after the headway they made into bringing Steam and many of their first party games available on the Mac platform.

Ah yes, the generic meaningless response. Looks like you ate it right up.

Steam Link is simply a remote desktop app. That’s it, that’s all it does. For Apple to block this but none of the other remote desktop apps already on the App Store is truly absurd.

I see this as an incredibly stupid move from Apple. It’s bone headed, tone deaf, and frankly toxic. Every time they pull a stunt like this which is so clearly against the interests of their own customers it defies logic. It’s truly idiotic.

I have an NVidia Shield TV as well as an Apple TV so I’ve used Steam Link a lot. To be frank, it’s laggy (even over a fully wired network) and not very impressive, but people should be able to find that out for themselves regardless of which box they own.

Guys and gals, why are any of you responding to mi7tchy? The guy legitimately hates Apple. He will use ANY excuse to attack them.

this is BS plain and simple. Apple is wrong here. They are trying to get something they don't deserve. They don't have to advertise for Valve/Steam. If it was up to them, if I used Microsofts RDP to remote into my desktop, then purchase something on amazon while using edge, they would try and take a cut.

Are you high? You can buy stuff on Amazon using the app and they don’t take a cut of physical goods. So have fun using more effort than necessary for no real gain.

Wow... that was an analogy... possibly even hyperbole.. I don't actually do this... are you sure you you aren't high?

And how is buying stuff through the amazon app different then buying a game through steam? Why do they allow that? They would if they could get away with it but there is no way anyone would find that acceptable. This isn't any different. Steam games are sold through steam for third parties.

Talk about slippery slope fallacy...

Nope, I’ve only been drinking. Much different and much more legal.

Edit: It was also a horrible analogy.
yeah.. it was so horrible you thought I was actually doing it... seriously, do you even hear yourself?

Nope, I can’t hear the sound of me typing. And the analogy was bad because it’s something they don’t do. At least choose a good example, like saying you’re going to use a Virtual Desktop to go buy a Sakura Game from some website. That way you’re making fun of their purchasing thing and their family friendly attitude about what’s in their store.

It’s a bit fuzzy. If I Remote Desktop to my PC and buy an app for the PC is that considered an in app purchase?

If that it’s their point of view it’s ridiculous. Sorry, absolutely ridiculous,

Are they going after all Remote Desktop apps? It’s not that Valve is offering a game streaming service like Play Station Now. That would be different, and in such context I would consider Apple point valid. But this is like Remote Desktop for games.
