FOR MORE $1000 with Linux. I think seriously to change my mind. Apple products/services become more expensive and less attractive. My salary doesn't rise at the same step. Also, Apple become more a bell & whistle and paid services company than a performance/design with a good vision. They impose people their view to buy their products with less and less competitor. (Apple Music, iCloud, iBook Store, Apple Apps.)

So I have to pay $1000 more this year for a similar laptop product (MBP without Touch Bar, because my 2010 MBA is done now) to keep all features and services/products I had already bought in the pass (apps, music, books...).

I think it's wise to stop before I sunk deeper, because with time I'm sure I will be more tightly caught with Apple products/services with less pleasure at the end.

I'm not sorry, time changes and now I have the opportunity to get rid of the APPLE ADDICTION.

The 1000$ I will save today will pay the cost of the transfer for similar apps or books. But with long term I'm sure I will save more and maybe help weakened the monopoly of this company.

Bye Apple.

The xps 13 is a solid choice at this point.

"We did spend a great deal of time looking at this a number of years ago and came to the conclusion that to make the best personal computer, you can't try to turn MacOS into an iPhone," Schiller says. "Conversely, you can't turn iOS into a Mac.... So each one is best at what they're meant to be -- and we take what makes sense to add from each, but without fundamentally changing them so they're compromised."

well then why on earth is the ipad pro running a phone os? it's not optimized at all!

The price puts these over designed macbooks out of reach for most people who don't use them for work. Add maybe $150 extra for all the dongles and adapters needed to recover the functionality lost with the removal of all the previous ports. I'm used to an Apple tax but come on, this is outright extortion. I hope they flop so as to send Apple a loud and clear message that Mac users have their limits.

How do I plug in an iPhone? Oh I need an adapter because Apple's latest iPhone and Macbook aren't compatible out of the box. Got it. So btw Apple, does that mean Lightning headphones are now obsolete? FFS, they cannot even standardize their own proprietary audio IO connector! Who is in charge at that company?

The price for the high end 15" may possibly be justified if it were a 17" 4K Macbook with 32GB RAM.

16GB RAM max? Words fail me.

I view the touch strip as a gimmick, but until we get more reviews and first hand reports I'll hold my fire. For now I'll say only that it appears to be a costly feature of questionable value, but it looks pretty.

THIS, f that touch bar, it doens't do anything I couldn't do before nor is it faster.

Apple Pay is very meh if you live in The Netherlands (not sure how its in the US or anywhere), but here, we pay with something that's called 'iDeal'. When checking out at a online store, it redirects you to your bank website, you log in, confirm the purchase and, via SMS, you'll receive a code to fill into the website to confirm the purchase again -> done. It's super fast and easy, no need for Apple Pay.

I think you forgot the /s tag. At least I hope so... that is not fast... that's a pain in the fass.

Today's presentation guaranteed that my 2014 MacBook Pro is going to be the last Apple product I purchase.

I'm sorry, but selling a gimped piece of hardware for a ridiculous price is the last thing Apple can afford to do right now, considering what the competition is putting out. Nickle-and-diming us for the main laptop and then all the various dongles you need in order to do normal everyday tasks is truly the new Apple, and I will not allow myself to be a victim of this greedy business practice. Nobody sees through your 'courage' disguise, Apple.

Apple's software has been in decline for years, but I've always thought of their hardware as being the best out there. Today's presentation marks the start of the decline of Apple's hardware too.

I know you guys are tired of hearing this to the point where it has always been a joke, but Apple truly is doomed, and I won't be around for that. Thank you for a long time of service, Apple, but, with today's presentation, you've just lost a life-time customer.

These guys are so out of touch with reality! Their insane success over the last several years has clouded their judgement. They no longer have the "stay hungry" mentality. Apple needs some new blood. Hope they have the courage to fire these bloated, out of touch has been.

I'm a loyal Mac user. I write software on my 2012 MBP. The Mac experience is still light years ahead of that Win10 thing (yes, I have a Win10 tablet-notebook duo... not a fan). But where's the wow? My fingers don't go anywhere near the function keys row where this touchpad is. 256 GB SSD, seriously? 16 GB RAM, seriously? 2.7 GHz processors, seriously?
I hated the 10 years+ that I had to work on and work with Windows PCs. But Apple isn't doing anything amazing at the moment.

I got it. All the complaints are mostly due to the fact that Apple's mobile product line is ruined. Back in the days there were MacBooks at various screen sizes and MacBooks Pro at the same sizes. Now basically there's just a MacBook Pro lineup with 13" and 15" screens (but no 17") and no real MacBook line. Just a single 12" model. Plus 13" Air. That's a pretty distorted product line, almost a mess for a company like Apple. People who need a basic 13" or 15" notebook are forced to buy Pro model, because there are no real alternative, but Pro is too expensive for them since it was initially created for professionals, who can afford it easily.

What Apple has to do is to recreate a full line of basic MacBook models at 13" and 15" sizes AND enhance and add 17" back to Pro line so it was again a line of real Pro machines, not just branded and priced so.

The iPod, iTunes, and then the iPhone is what brought many people to a Mac for the first time. I've seen Apple increasing prices since TC took over. Truly shows Apple trying to be the next Prada company but for tech. Which is why Angela Abrendts was brought on.

Two ways about this - It could make Apple more special in the high end for the elite and bring in even more profits or it will lose touch with their biggest fan base ditching the brand entirely causing a domino effect in profits. Which one will weigh more than the other is up for discussion. But I do know I do not like where this new Apple is heading and feel all of the top executives should be replaced with new blood. So sorry to see this happen.

Both our machines need replacing, the other half's 09 MBP is getting long in the tooth. ll I can do is replace the HD with an SSD to keep it gimping along for a couple more years. My 08 Mac Pro is slowly choking on the work it is now asked to do.

Although I had pretty much given up on the MP I was holdig out a small hope for the new MBP's as it would be nice to stay prtly into the Mac OS side of things.

Sadly there is no way in hell we can justify now spending £6,000 to update both machines. The price hike on the new models are a kick in the nuts, but the increase on 4 year old technology in the MacPro is just completely mental.

For those of us in the UK, those claiming Brexit are just stupid. We were already paying over the odds (even including VAT) so the price hike of 20% on a product that all component purchases were made years ago is just horse hockey.

It's a sad day, but as these machine finally die, they'll be replaced by W10 machines. It's been a good 20 years but the affair with the fruit is now over.

Alienware 17:

How is Alienware?

Nice computers, but too bulky for my needs. I'm going with the Razer for its slim profile, but insanely beefy specs. The price is a bit high (starts at $3500), but I won't need to buy two machines now (daily mobile workstation and desktop replacement for vr and production). It's truly a no-compromise option, which I respect and love.

The sheer hubris of Cook, Ive & Schiller is unreal. They honestly believe that mediocre laptops that aren't anything CLOSE to being a pro machine despite what they've deluded themselves into believing is "Designing for the experience"?

Laughable.

I'm happy I made the correct decision 2 months back by buying the Surface pro :D
Such a kickass machine - full blown OS, touchscreen and ipad like sleekness.

I really feel like they've lost the plot. Sad. I love MacOS and do not want to move to another system, but I will be left with little choice at this rate.

At work I no longer have the choice! My employer will no longer buy Macs because of the incredibly high prices here in Norway. Nor can we argue that we need them, as the software we use is also available to us for Windows 10.

It also doesn't replace the screen or the RAM. If that's what you wanted it to do, then of course you'll be disappointed, but that was never the intent.

It replaces and enhances the row of function keys.
yes because we need to enhance the experience with a row of emojis now.

The Touchbar is a great feature, but the price hike is ridiculous. The only reason they brought out the 13" MBP non-touchbar is to justify that price hike. Otherwise, they could have updated the MBA with better specs and a retina display, sans the Touchbar.

It's also a $200 price jump between the base 2015 13" MBP and the 2016 non-touchbar MBP. What have they added to justify that price increase? Nothing innovative.

Monkeys on a keyboard could type out a better plot faster than these 'executives' now in charge of running Apple into the ground... I mean running Apple.

That makes no sense as IBM has proven Macs have far cheaper TCO than Windows PCs.
