A month ago I had planned to update my two-year-old 13" MBP with whatever Apple released this week. I wanted a 15" machine to help me with my work, and I was intrigued by the idea of the touch bar.

Unfortunately between then and now, I lost my job, and I don't plan to get a new job. I'm no longer in the market for a new laptop. The one I have will do me for another year or two. I'll get more use out of my year-old 27" iMac. I'd already decided this before the keynote, so I'm happy to sit out this release. When my current laptop is ready to be replaced, it will probably be a better-spec'd version of what they showed today. I'm still intrigued by the touch bar. More software will support it hopefully when I'm ready to update.

I'd planned to get an iPhone 7 once the supply was good enough to get one easily, but I'll probably go to a three- or four-year cycle for iPhones updates also. Now I can really get excited by the iPhone 8 rumors.

I'm retired now (at 51!). I have to start thinking about my budget.

My experience will vary greatly from others'. I loved Snow Leopard but if I bought a computer today I'd be sorely disappointed based on the crappy OS that is installed. Now if I bought a computer based on it's hardware specs that could install Snow Leopard that would be a different matter. I'd probably be very happy with modern hardware specs and an older OS.User experience is arbitrary and that's where Apple falls short.

Sigh. Equally disappointed as the majority of this forum... but honestly out of words. I'm sure I'll still keep up with Mac news, but no way am I going to spend money on this.

I'll continue to wait for a big company revamp and a renewed vision.

Ive, the head designer of the product, considers full touch screens not particularly useful,

Nobody tell him about the iPad.

Apple has made no secret about its preference for the iPad as the platform for future. “This is the way we think that personal computing is going,” said Phil Schiller, senior VP of worldwide marketing

Phil!

Ferrari designs for the experience too.
Rolls Royce, Porche... etc. Clearly Apple is not marketing its latest laptop to the Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit
crowd.

Yes, and those companies provide commensurate performance for price, not just looks. This is Ferrari price with Yaris performance.

Nothing about the last few 「pro」 updates has made me think Iam using a professional level machine for the price.

I expect Apple to design for the experience but surely someone questions whether the Touch Bar is worth an additional $500?

Unlike a lot of people on here I like the look of the Touch Bar. I will reserve judgement until I've tried it at a store but even if I feel it is the best ever input experience I wouldn't pay an additional $500 for it when things like the SD slot and MagSafe have been removed so that the laptop can have a smaller volume.

I mention MagSafe.. surely a feature designed for the Apple experience?

I just realized they come with Skylake processors o_O I assumed it'd come with Kaby Lake since many Windows machines have been shipping with them.

I wonder how many times it has to be said. Kaby Lake processors for the higher powered 13" or the 15" do not exist. The basic 13" is a MacBook Air in MacBook Pro clothing.

Also, wish they had the non-touch bar option in the 15"

THIS, f that touch bar, it doens't do anything I couldn't do before nor is it faster.

Apple Pay is very meh if you live in The Netherlands (not sure how its in the US or anywhere), but here, we pay with something that's called 'iDeal'. When checking out at a online store, it redirects you to your bank website, you log in, confirm the purchase and, via SMS, you'll receive a code to fill into the website to confirm the purchase again -> done. It's super fast and easy, no need for Apple Pay.

You may not design for price, but my credit card is not designed for your price.
I understand and sympathize. Back in the day (mid 1980s) I was at a user group meeting for the Commodore 64. We all agreed that we'd love to have a Macintosh, but we simply couldn't afford it.

Who'd have thought that Apple would still be around today, making computers that a lot of people can't afford?

The touchbar isn't $500. The lower end 13" has a 15w "ultrabook" chip
