Started crashing on mine a couple hours ago. Tried everything with no luck. Came here on the off chance someone else was reporting it and, viola, front page story.

And, FWIW, I'm on the current iOS 7 and my phone isn't jailbroken or anything silly like that.

Turning off wi-fi seems to work, BTW.

It's been on the fritz for me too lately.

Was just about to comment that it's working for me, at least an hour ago it was. But I just launched it and just crashed. iPhone 5s on 7.1.1.

It seems to be an iTunes issue

Podcasts on my iPod touch worked fine while on a walk (no WiFi access) this morning. When I returned home and started to update podcasts, the app crashed on launch. Quitting the app, rebooting the iPod, deleting and reinstalling the app failed.

I then tried Podcasts on my iPad -- same problem. Turning on Airplane Mode on the iPad allowed the Podcasts app to run and to play podcasts, but soon as WiFi access was enabled, Podcasts app crashed.

After reinstalling Podcasts on the iPod touch, the app found every podcast I had subscribed to since the beginning of time (some of which no longer existed anywhere), and tried to download them. After many frustrating minutes, I was able to get the app to forget the ancient podcasts, and download the ones I wanted to listen to.

Well, it seemed to work, for a while. I just turned on the iPod, started the Podcasts app, and it crashed! After turning on Airplane Mode, the app works fine (other than the obvious issue of updating podcasts).

podcast app crashing

I've had this problem from the start and I went to the apple store and was told they knew about it. We tried different things to fix it but was unable to. So, I've been using downcast

A good opportunity to switch to a decent podcast app. I prefer Instacast, as it has a very nice Mac app counterpart. Downcast is also highly regarded.

Exactly what percentage of Android phones are running the latest version of the OS? Android is a mess.

Did you get that from the Apple keynote? Hahahahaha.

So where do you put widgets on iOS8? Can you tell me what the point of a widget is?

Can your phone read webpages to you while you're driving?

Can you use a calculator and look at an email at the same time or take notes and look at an email or image at the same time?

The only thing iPhone has over Android phones is hardware design.

Free yourself.

I'm on iOS 7.1.1, iPhone 5s and latest Podcast app and it is working without problems.

Also, I don't know why people keeps hating this app, it has been getting better and now it is quite good.

Agreed. I even didn't have many issues with it day 1 other than the initial breaking in period to get used to it as a separate app. The only real issue until the recent version of it was the mis-syncing of "played" and "unplayed" statuses which caused me to have old episodes show back up and other played eps refuse to auto delete. All that is working great now. Since i regularly sync to a pc, the icloud sync of playback positions never come into play. Since this crash appears to be solved by using airplane mode suggests an icloud issue the app is not equipped to handle, thus the hard quit.

Having this issue as well. Podcasts has been comparatively good for me vs all of the critisizms ive seen leveled at the app. Today though - what a ****ing joke.

On 7.1.1 on a 5S, none of the three reboots I did solved it.

I fixed this issue months ago by upgrading to a Galaxy S5. As a bonus I also got a much larger and nicer screen.

I kind of enjoy being able to play a podcast on my computer and pick it up later on my iphone, or the reverse.

I would really enjoy this too, if it worked. I've tried many different fixes to no avail, including removing Podcasts, re-subscribing to the podcasts and re-downloading all the unplayed episodes, and even completely wiping my phone..

I listen to several podcasts from the TWiT network. TWiCH, TWiT, Macbreak Weekly, etc. They look fine on my iMac and my iPod Nano. But when I sync them to my phone, invariably the Podcast app puts all of the older podcasts in a single TWiT folder, then each different podcast will have it's own folder with a single episode in it. And it won't properly sync play counts back to the iMac or Nano. So I've just had to give up. I now only listen to them on my old Nano, which STILL works perfectly.

Just read the news. Oh heavens, how are people ever going to survive such stress and trauma?

Hilarious! Why do I want to do those things? The way you keep telling us about reading web pages while you drive, it's like you are trying to convince yourself how great a feature it is. To me it's worthless, I'd rather talk to my wife or my kids while I'm driving, it's one of the bits of time I get away from technology!

Nobody said you had to do anything. But I find this feature really useful as well as multi-tasking.

I have a SGS5 and an iPhone 5S... The one thing the SGS5 has going for it is the screen size. Aside from that, the user experience is so messy compared to iPhone. Yeah there's a lot more they let you do, but there's also a lot less cohesive design element between apps, and the overall experience at a Mac user is far less desirable on an Android device.

Plus it's really annoying using the darn charging cable on Android, be it the Samsung or the MicroUSB... they both suck after using Lightning cables for so long.

Ok... iPhone wins on cables... but I guess it depends on the type of person you are and what you like out of your phone as far as OS's go. Some people prefer simplicity and others more features. I myself use a lot of the phone's features, so I prefer more features, hence I prefer Android. But my Macbook is by far the best laptop I've ever owned because I don't have to worry about maintenance.

I can't say I've ever wanted my phone to read me a webpage. "OK Google" is nice, but not something I'd switch to sub-par hardware for. At the end of the day the most important feature of a phone\tablet for me is the way it seamlessly integrates into the Apple ecosystem (I have a macbook air and an iMac).... and hands down Apple wins. Now if android were to clean up the way their phones integrate, there's a battle brewing for my business.
