I can't say I've ever wanted my phone to read me a webpage. "OK Google" is nice, but not something I'd switch to sub-par hardware for. At the end of the day the most important feature of a phone\tablet for me is the way it seamlessly integrates into the Apple ecosystem (I have a macbook air and an iMac).... and hands down Apple wins. Now if android were to clean up the way their phones integrate, there's a battle brewing for my business.

It's called Android L... it will be out in the fall.

Apple's 'Podcasts' App Crashing on Launch

Yep, this is all you need. Unfortunately though, Apple's podcast app is built into iOS 8. Guess it's going in the "Apps I Don't Use" folder

Indeed. I tried and tried to like Podcasts. But it came up short. Very short.

So you basically admit that all prior versions of Android had second rate integration up until this new version which hasn't even been released yet?

I'm on iOS 7.1.1, iPhone 5s and latest Podcast app and it is working without problems.

I'm on iOS 7.1.1 with plain old iPhone 5 and an up to date Podcast app but it started freaking out on my ride home at 3:30 eastern time, crashing nonstop. Was trying to listen to Gruber's latest!

Also, I don't know why people keeps hating this app, it has been getting better and now it is quite good.

Agreed. I like it just fine. Someone asked earlier in this thread for a good example of an alternative but I haven't seen any suggestions yet. (Though I haven't gotten past your post yet.)

Integration? I don't know what you mean by that really... all I know is that everything on my phone syncs videos and photos, contacts, documents, and emails to the cloud seamlessly... I know Apple does not backup videos on your phone... and I know iCloud Pages online sucks because you can't even highlight text in documents.

You tell me. You replied to the previous poster who spoke about great integration between Apple devices by saying Android L was coming out this fall. What was the point of that?

Why are people wasting their time with this POS app when DownCast is so much better? This podcast app is just downright horrible, and has been from the start. Spend a couple bucks and get an app that's actually useable and good, forget this one and pick up DownCast. Well worth the money and miles better than this one.

.... I've been listening to my Podcast app on iOS 8 beta 2 all day and have had no problems on LTE/Wi-Fi. What on earth are you talking about :/

Yep, pretty much every Apple app I don't use on my 5S goes into the "garbage" folder. Guess they'll be getting more company when iOS 8 comes out.

I agree. I'm actually using Pocket Casts now because I like the server side monitoring and push notifications. But I used Downcast for ages before that and it's otherwise still the best podcast app.

I do use the Apple Podcast app too, but only for a few music podcasts. I like to download them to iTunes and sync them rather than directly to my phone. Syncing to iTunes is the only reason I can think of to use the Apple podcast app.

Did you get that from the Apple keynote?

No, from Google's website:

I stay as far away from iTunes as I possibly can, for any reason. I've had nothing but trouble since iOS7 came out. I've got a brand new 5S with a fresh install of iOS 7 and trying to sync anything with iTunes ends up in maddening frustration. From the "waiting for items to transfer" (or whatever it says exactly), it simply refusing to sync my music properly either manually or automatically to having to delete the entire media/downloads folder contents to get the ability to use the App Store I have vowed to use iTunes the least amount possible. It's simply a terrible experience for me and it takes sometimes hours to sync anything large or small, it refuses to sync my music properly any time I plug it in (and mysteriously deletes music and album art randomly) and it breaks the App Store by putting thousands of library files in the media/downloads folder. I've stopped using it completely unless I absolutely have to.

My entire experience with the Apple podcasts app has been laughably awful. It's simply not a good app and it's been terrible since the day it was released. I paid $2.99 for DownCast and haven't had a single issue whatsoever. I couldn't even get podcasts to download any podcast the first time I used it. It's not a good app at all and I don't know why people continue to use it, it's broken and terrible compared to Downcast. It's a no-brainer to buy it.

Oh, you ain't lyin'. I feel that pain too. I have no idea how or why they broke sync so bad. It should not take 15 minutes of waiting for "waiting for items to transfer." And more than once I've had it get out of sync and use iExplorer to go in and clear out the media on the iPhone because it's out of sync as "other" and can't be deleted from iTunes, just so I can start over and re-sync everything.
I still sync once a week or so just to get those podcast files over but I don't now, maybe I'm gluten for punishment.

Did you get that from the Apple keynote? Hahahahaha.

So where do you put widgets on iOS8? Can you tell me what the point of a widget is?

Can your phone read webpages to you while you're driving?

Can you use a calculator and look at an email at the same time or take notes and look at an email or image at the same time?

The only thing iPhone has over Android phones is hardware design.

Free yourself.

Somebody ban this guy. Beat it troll!

I don't sync at all. Once I finally got all my music to sync properly, and I wasted HOURS doing that, I don't plug it in at all. I let iCloud back up my phone, I use iPhoto/iCloud for backing up my pictures and I use downcast. The only thing I use iTunes for is to download the podcasts I want to keep indefinitely and use Downcast to actually listen to them. After the last time I had to delete a couple hundred files from media/downloads I quit using iTunes for good and that was about three months ago. I don't understand why Apple can't fix iTunes, it's gotten progressively worse every version release and they never actually fix it right.

I'm deathly afraid to plug in my iPad because I haven't synced that thing in about 18 months because I don't want iTunes to screw it up like it has the last two iPhones I've had. I don't want to deal with its BS broken sync stuff, and since Apple STUPIDLY decided to make iBooks a standalone app I've stayed far away from it too. Its literally the only thing I've seen more broken than iTunes and it took me almost a full day to reverse the utter destruction it did to my books library. I even went so far as to hack it out of Mountain Lion so it couldn't do any more damage to by books library. I don't understand who the hell Apple is talking to when they make horrible design/functionality decisions like that. It's just absolutely horrible how they executed having iBooks on the Mac, it's literally non-functional and it will utterly destroy your library without any way to fix it. I've got around 250 books on my iPad and I'm not letting iTunes anywhere near it.
