Sorry, AI and Chinese....does not sound like a good idea!
The current rumor is that Apple AI will power things on device, then they’ll use either Google or open AI for web results.I thought Apple is making their own AI? So why partner with others?
Or what ever companies they have bought that will help them in the future. I am fine with that, but not with any Chinese companies being used. The current rumor is that Apple AI will power things on device, then they’ll use either Google or open AI for web results.
Not sure why anyone is surprised, Apple doesn’t do anything on their own.
A lot of iCloud servers are actually Google’s.
Apple Silicon is produced by TSMC.
Apples displays are produced by Samsung and LG.
Apple‘s cameras are produced by Sony.
Apple Music, Apple news, iTunes, shortcuts, etc. were all third-party companies integrated into iOS.
So it really shouldn’t surprise anyone that Apple is relying on third parties for their AI efforts as well, it’s pretty much expected.
That’s what Apple does, they don’t really invent anything, they just get the best people and the best companies around to help them turn it into a reality.
The US authorities would have a field day with that one!....As they Should!I imagine it will be Google wanting to continue the duopoly. Could you imagine if it was Baidu? The US authorities would have a field day with that one!
Baidu is shoe-in for China. It is the ROW for which Google and OpenAI are being considered. Maybe even both.Putting my money on Baidu.
Maybe read the article.Or what ever companies they have bought that will help them in the future. I am fine with that, but not with any Chinese companies being used.
Evidently Siri 2.0 has failed in the lab and the keynote is looking rather drab at this point.
or
They tried to import the car AI into Siri and it can only respond "Turn left, turn left."
Baidu is only being considered for China because other LLM competitors cannot or will not operate there.Even Baidu???????
Wow, I knew Apple has missed the AI train, but who would've thought they would consider Baidu? 🤯
Me listening to Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra while using the AI feature.Imagine Apple partners with Google.
THAT uncle Google. THAT privacy unfriendly Google. Quite an interesting look that would create.
I don’t think they’re caught of guard per sé. They’ve been doing machine learning stuff for years. I think they’re caught off guard by the hype.It does indeed feel like Apple was completely caught off guard by the recent advancements in AI. Let’s hope we’re wrong and they blow us off our feet.
Agree, why do we need an OS upgrade yearly, IDK.Can’t help but think that this all sounds rushed. Another year of announcing features that barely make it in time for the next WWDC while basic features take a back seat.
I think it's code named "apple clippy"The game is afoot, and we have no idea what game it is. That Apple is pursuing some objective is obvious. What we don't know is what the goal of these discusions is. Are they pursuing the licensure of an underlying model/architecture, or that plus the weights to be run on their own servers? Are they outsourcing fully? Are they doing something else entirely like trying to get others to pay them to be linked to iPhones.
I could see them trying to license an architecture, like they license ARM's instruction set. That makes the most sense. But you would think that it is to late to implement that sort of thing for 2024.
Apple is a system integrator. It always has been. It does its own system software, designs and orders hardware from vendors.Apple doesn’t do anything on their own.
Maybe read the article.
The Chinese companies will be used for Apple AI features… In China.
Not in the US or anywhere else.
