Apparently will be Google. They have money to pay Apple to disregard Apple’s privacy statements.
Why would Google pay Apple for use of Google's technology or resources?
FFS, please don’t use Baidu. I don’t like any of these options, but using China for this has the possibility of being a HUGE privacy risk.
...as is using U.S. tech.

Both privacy-hostile jurisdictions. Google is known for cooperating with U.S. three-letter agencies, not to mention the U.S. online advertising industry.

Given what an absolute mess Siri has been since day one Apple acquired it. I'm not hopeful for Apple AI.

Maybe I don't know better but this is starting to sound like SherlockAI. Not Apple's own AI but something that aggregates results from other AI engines to give you the best selection.

On another note I've complete de-Googleified after some of what I've learned about them.
I do not want their AI model hoovering up data from my supposedly "privacy"-tilting phone.
Anything in particular?

For the China market, Apple will parter up with Baidu and for rest of the world, think it might depend on how much money Apple will be able to make with the partnership.

Everybody understands Apple's Ajax system is built on top of Google Jax, right? I mean they are building AppleGPT using Google already. And like some else said much of iCloud is run on Google. None of that means your information, or what you ask Siri is accessible by Google, you're not going to be using Google Gemini directly, it will be powered by Gemini.

So the AI deal with Google (if it is Google), The Google AI will be completely separate with your private info, would be exactly the same as when Apple uses Google for iCloud with your private data and requests. It's our private data and Apple is in control of the data. Very much like how Amazon offers it's services to TONS of huge companies, Amazon doesn't control the data, the customer who partners with them controls the data. So Google doesn't have access to your data! and since they already do this with Apple iCloud, Google could be the best partner, the safest partner, I actually would worry more with OpenAI.

But I prefer them to buy Anthropic outright, majority stake, if they still can...Do it NOW, and even if you don't need them, it keeps them out of the hands of the competition. The Big Redmond Machine is doing that, they just did it with Inflection and Pi, they didn't need it, they killed it. Soon Pi is going bye bye. and gee where are all the Pi users going to go...YUP MS, and strangely I bet they will have a new chatbot very much like PI real soon. why isn't the gov looking it to that?

Apple talks to OpenAI, Apple gets a call later...Hi friend the is your old pal Google, have you met Gemini? Have we got a deal for you...LOL J/K

The AI war is getting UGLY and The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Google is losing on all fronts and this would be huge for them, Google certainly doesn't want Apple to go with OpenAI.

Will Apple be making money with the partnership - and how?

I think it might depend on how much money Apple will lose with the partnership. So far, I see AI providers competing against each other for Apple’s money - as in offering the best deal as suppliers that Apple will be paying. Not the other way around.

Ok, can you name 3 cool AI features Apple has in their operating systems or software?
I get that you're disappointed, but Apple has seldom if ever been the first mover in new features.

Why would AI be the exception?

They’ve arguably been an early or first mover in AI features with Siri (though that’s generative AI in its output).

You should be more worried about companies that focus on building profiles of you beyond just the internet. LexusNexus has been in the news lately where they buy your data from car companies and resell it to insurance companies. This has real financial impact beyond the just targeted ads google might send you. Unless you always use cash, you privacy is an open book.

It would be hilarious if, after all of this, they just went with Google's AI. Apple's phones and Samsung's phones would be powered by the same AI technology! :p

Yes, just like they're powered by the same electricity.
There's growing evidence pointing to a commoditisation of the underlying AI tech in just a very few years.

I would simply call it a chat bot. Even today‘s so-called AIs are mere LLMs, none of our AI offerings are able to overcome a self-induced logic problem nor are they able to understand their own nature, which is what an intelligent entity is defined upon ;)

An exception doesn't make a rule though, but I can see why someone would think it should

Exclusivity (you know safaris main search engine is google, right?, well,.that's worth a couple billion dollars)
Google displays paid ads above/along with search results for monetisation.

Paying for exclusivity to deliver content to another company’s customers on their products for free doesn’t sound like a great deal. So how are they (Google) going to monetise the results delivered by generative AI integrated into iOS?

When creating “images and write essays based on single prompts” for example, are they going to include watermarks, and I can then buy a “Siri Pro subscription“ from (ultimately) Google that‘ll remove those watermarks - and possibly do more? Or will Google first make me watch a couple of ads on my iPhone before delivering the generated content? Will Google offer links that take me to their website to subscribe to additional Google services?

I guess it’s technically possible - but is this a user experience Apple want (or is likely) to create?

I know this is likely hugely complex, but is this the jist of it: Apple 'teased' numerous times it is has AI stuff to announce this year with iOS 18, and presumably the M4 chip. And is now going around all the people who have existing AI stuff to do deals? Think about that. That's WEAK.

I doubt they'll ever actually announce that. Nobody that doesn't follow Apple rumors will have any idea. Just like they use Azure and AWS for iCloud.

I don't want them to rush out useless crap instead of fixing all my pet issues, but at least if they are going to do it they could contract it out to someone who will do a good job. Better than them trying to shoehorn Siri into it.

In this case I would imagine it's Apple paying the licensing fee for a flat set of services Apple customers can use.

More likely, the scenario you described will happen but it will be rolled into iCloud+ or Apple One or something.

The current software team can’t even manage to build on top of the solid operating systems they had, they managed over the years to destroy macOS and they are doing the same with iOS, although at slower pace. How are we supposed to believe they are capable of creating advanced AI features? Of course they need google to save the day..
