PS Small business owners don't run charities so high ad costs will mean higher products.
Then raise your prices? I mean, if it’s something I want and I’m ALREADY intentionally avoiding larger businesses, I understand that I may have to pay more for your quality. Unless you’re trying to compete against LARGE corporations on price alone…

I guarantee you're not seeing less ads; you're seeing less targeted ads which facebook and google make more money from.

Most ads I see are from apple. I don’t think of apple as doing good here. You are the product. Apples product.

I‘ve never seen an Apple Ad, other than those light blue ones in the App Store searches. Those are not even annoying. So, if those Ads help Apple and the developers, I’m all in with it. I wouldn’t even install a tweak to get rid or them. I also don’t see that as a violation of my privacy, as Apple is expected to use my searches to show me more relevant apps. Using that data outside of App Store however, is a violation of privacy, which Apple does not do. What happens in an app or a website, stay sandboxed in that particular abstract entity. When App Store searches affect Apple Music ads, it’s trespassing on privacy.

Apple has ads in settings now. And every stock app of theirs is full of them. Stocks, news, music, tv, etc.

Great news to start a Monday. I'm planning on retiring from Meta/Book soon anyway.
Retired myself 4 years ago. Didn’t and don’t miss it at all. I have far more free time, far less aggravation online, and enjoy keeping in touch with my real friends by email and by, wait for it, post. Yup, I spend some of the time I used to waste on Facebook making personalised Christmas cards. I even write the occasional letter, with a real pen.

As a result of its privacy features, Apple has cost social media companies including Meta, formerly known as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube, nearly $10 billion in revenue in the second half of 2021, according to an investigation by the Financial Times.

The Financial Times found that most users have opted out of tracking using Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework, a requirement that forces developers to ask users if they wish to be tracked across other apps and websites. Data in the report from Lotame, a third-party company, suggests that Meta, YouTube, Twitter, and Snap lost $9.85 billion in revenue in the third and fourth quarters of 2021, with Snapchat and Facebook being the most impacted.
ATT has caused social media giants who rely heavily on their ad models, such as Meta, to be remarkably worried about the repercussions of giving users a choice on whether they wish to be tracked or not.

Meta, in particular, has used the narrative that ATT will hurt small businesses that run targeted ads for potential customers. If users tap "Ask App Not to Track" when shown the prompt on initial app launch on newer versions of iOS and iPadOS, that app has considerably fewer data points to use to show them "personalized ads."

Last week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg blamed Apple's privacy changes for Meta's lackluster performance this year. Other Meta executives also pointed the finger towards the Cupertino tech giant, claiming that its business would have done better if not for Apple's privacy rules.

Meta’s revenue was impacted by 13.1% percent due to ATT, while Twitter was only impacted by 7.4%. Twitter told the Financial Times that it was less impacted because its "ads rely more on context and branding than on tracking consumers' mobile habits."

Good, now let’s have them lose 100% of their revenues

Probably just me, but I enjoy the feeling I get when I refuse them permission.

Amen. I’m amazed at the apps that you wouldn’t think would have a reason to track you across apps, as simply using it gives them info. Think Domino’s or Papa John’s apps. You literally give them all sorts of personal info along with your device info, yet they want to track you across other apps.

The cart is definitely before the horse when it comes to online privacy laws. Twitter seems to do better than “Meta” at policing itself. But I’m glad Apple is trying to get ahead in the race a little, even if it is in their slow and methodical way.

but... but... blue pill swallowers told me they had nothing to hide and I am paranoid to ask for privacy?!

Not that I have any social media accounts, unless one would define MacRumours as such plus I pay for ad free TV streaming services and utilise  Music. What little advertisement that may surround me - I am impervious to it as I am unable to recognise the brand and the product or service or ideology. As for how SpyBook is affected, all I can say is:
????????????????????????????????????????????.

Tough Tookies, Zuck
I know others have posted, but the Jewish translation of "Meta" is DEAD.
Just remember Zack's opinion of those who gave this info to him in the beginning.
Qouting HIM "Dumb ****s".

Come on MR, Im just quoting the Zuck directly.

You could make that argument but I see web forums as very different from social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc which use algorithms to manipulate what users see.
MacRumors is social media, FaceBook is social media with extra steps :)
