I don’t see the snark with this. Apple is telling you how to care for your $6,000 display. People wipe their screens off with Pledge furniture polish, so it’s a little tip to not do something silly.

Try to clean MacBook Pro retina display with paper handkerchief you use for blowing your nose. You can say goodbye to oleophobic coating after that. Micro scratches guaranteed 100%

What the hell is a reference monitor? Either way, this isn’t even 120hz so it is useless for gaming.

Reference monitors are highly specialized video monitors that are used in production.

Their function is to show how finished work looks while it is being edited. These are what you see in high end movie production studios. The ones of the quality Apple is selling usually costs a lot more.

These are not for end consumers.

Because Apple's first screen for professional use since the Cinema Display shouldn't have been an ultra niche curiosity (or at least not JUST that). Shows how out of touch they are.

I agree 110%...they are out of touch with the user that made them what they are...the creative professional that doesn't work for big mega bucks studios.

There should have been a new Apple Display like you said that was 4k-5k and with some of these features/design and around $1500-$2500. They should still have this one at these price points.

They should have also come out with a MacPro that was a smaller tower and for the mid range user with less cores, less slots....etc...

It's really annoying they think that us mid range users need to be forced into an iMac or iMac Pro (not worth it) or Mac Book Pro...with NO UPGRADABILITY...

Are you in the market for an Apple Pro Display XDR ?
I'm a freelance motion designer, so I'd love a pro display but this is overkill for me. If it was the same price as their cinema display, then I would have thought about it but this is silly money. This thing won't sell and Apple will say there's no market for it. Same with the Mac Pro.

Totally agree. Why have they aimed for such tiny markets when over 97% of businesses in the US alone are small to medium-sized? With more and more creative professionals going freelance, this is a major misfire by Apple.

I remember spending $2500 on a Radius PrecisionView/21 back in 1990 or so and the first 21" Apple Cinema Displays were in the $5K ballpark. As a software developer, I'd love for this screen to replace my 27" Thunderbolt Display but it'd have to get down to the $3K ballpark for me to act on it.
I'm not aware of any Apple displays ever being remotely close to $5k. Are you remembering correctly?

Thank you for the sanity check, I knew there’s more of us around.. I honestly don’t get how do some forum members not only vindicate this inexcusable product release streak by Apple, but then have the cheek to gaslight you, the user, for not being “professional” enough to “appreciate” this new uberniche Mac Pro just because you’re not running a render farm.

All this bitching about there being no "pro-sumer" options and how "niche" this product is.

Are people trolling? Or have they really completely forgotten that Apple JUST updated the Mac Mini, finally?

You can get a powerhouse Mac Mini with a giant, 27" 5K LG display for less than $3k total, brand new. Which market, exactly, is being omitted?

Because, as Steve once put it about Xerox, Apple is now a monopoly that’s driven away their product people and is being run by sales & marketing, without any feel for meeting the user’s actual needs.

The powerhouse Mac mini with its mighty Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU? Are you lol-ing uncontrollably while writing your posts?

As for the 5K LG.. We don’t want the fugly LG. We want an Apple branded, Apple styled display that doesn’t look like it was vomited by the wrong factory.

They’re in touch with the users that are making them successful at the time. That was true when their focus was the Apple II, that was true when their focus was the iMac and it’s true today, with the vast majority of their customers are on iOS.

Most of those businesses are using PC’s, and most of those systems are laptops. For those running on macOS MOST folks are buying iMacs, MacBooks, etc. If your small to medium sized business requires an inexpensive upgradable system with slots (which is a tiny sliver of folks), then there’s no macOS solution. Many who THOUGHT that’s what they need realized they can still make good money on an iMac (or using some other OS) and never looked back.

Oh, it’ll sell, in tiny numbers, just as expected. And, the Mac Pro will sell... again, in tiny numbers... just as expected.

The market of folks that just like to putter around in tower shaped boxes, maybe? I mean, I’m guilty of opening a G5, just looking at the internals, then snapping the case back on. Although, I’m not demanding Apple to make a system just for me to gawk at. :)
[automerge]1576095749[/automerge]
but then have the cheek to gaslight you, the user,
So, YOU say gaslighting, others may say, “Attempting to wean folks from their emotional attachment to a company that is very likely never going to make the thing they want so they can just be happier in general.”

Of course, I’m sure some folks‘ day is made by being able to type, in a public forum, APPLE SHOULD MAKE THE THINGS I WANT TO BUY! So, everyone gets their happiness?

I think you'll see the display drop in price by $1000 or so over the next 6 months. I do think they really need to get a 4-5K display version out (not 6K) out for the mid range user that doesn't need the Nano glass etc. They can keep the Pro Display at 6K/Nano & even go up to 8K in the future for the extreme users (there is a market for it but it's niche).

I work and have worked in post production for 20+ years and I am a motion GFX/editor, etc....the thing I'm going to bring up about the display is this...I think it's over-priced BUT I think down the road, this will be the benchmark/standard for us...I'm seeing clients basically viewing/watching everything we do for them now on their iPads, iPhones, MacBooks, etc...meaning the end user is now consuming content on Apple devices & Apple calibrated retina screens/displays...and not even watching on a TV anymore (and like that really mattered because the majority of TVs are not calibrated).

We have displays for our color suites that cost 25K and higher & no one is watching their content on these things unless they come into our suites and watch it...after that the majority of views/end users are watching their content now on these mobile devices.

So in the end, what has the most accurate color from suite to end user...it's going to be this monitor (or future ones) to end user Apple devices.

Wait, what? Between the Apple II and iOS there's been no Mac and it's all just us being fussy? Was it all a dream? Because the 17" MacBook Pro sure as hell was a dream compared to the options we are presented with now.

And.. we'll have the choice of two Apple cloths: the regular iCloth which will cost $199 and the iCloth Pro which will cost a mere $299.
[automerge]1576097338[/automerge]
the second edition of the "cloth" will be called "cloth s". or "s cloth".

Nope. Two cloths: iCloth and iCloth Pro. $199 and $399 respectively. LOL!

Why would he? You do realise that there are actually loads of people who really love the butterfly keyboards. And, no, I am not joking.

I have a 2019 15" MBP and very much enjoy using the butterfly keyboard. Yes, it's different than the scissors type but I still like it. You just have to get used to it.

Monitor Stand, $1000 dollars, Wheels for your case $400 dollars, small glass microfiber cloth for monitor, $100 dollars.. probably about right for the Apple Tax.

Oh, did I forget to put the iMac in there? No, I didn’t. Do you not consider the iMac a Mac?

I was giving examples of systems where the majority of Apple’s sales came from at one time. That’s the Apple II, the iMac, and iOS. I understand that people loved their 17 inch MBP, it was never close to sales of the iBook or the iMac. I guess I could have even put the Performa line in there.

So, yes, Apple is in touch, they’re just in touch with a new group of consumers that drive their success today. I mean, they COULD still be in touch with AppleII users, but not sure how effective that would be. I’m guessing in about 20 years or so, someone will be complaining that “Apple’s not putting NEARLY enough focus on iOS anymore! They’re forgetting all the folks that put them where they are!” and... that will be even MORE true for those iOS users!

A "boomer joke"? Is that different from a "snowflake joke" or a "cupcake seeking safe spaces joke?"
Someone else answered it. Cleaning crews touching your screen is not a thing that’s done today, so the boomer reference was indicating something that MAY have been true when a boomer was in the workforce and computers had hardy glass screens, but not something that is a concern in today’s workplace.

Or like any rational professional going that route he probably has an eGPU and is busy working rather than talking about the shell a panel is wrapped in...
