Only 1GB RAM so the phone turns older faster so they have an excuse to not include certain new features of iOS 8 or 9.

No Siri 2.0 because RAM is not enough, for example.

Of course Apple. Now we know how you like to play...

I haven't run into any issues with only having 1gig of RAM. 2 gigs of RAM has become standard on high end Android devices because ICS and Jelly Bean is unstable with anyting less than 2 gigs. Eventually Apple will have to increase the RAM on their devices, but I'm not sure anything would be ganed by it at this point (outside of reduced battery life).

That can be offset with increasing battery life though. The troubling part of the i5S is that it was made in Oct 2012. That shows that their tech could be a bit better if it was a bit newer. Most people want thinner phones. I am ready for thicker phones if it means a 3300 mAh battery.

I didn't have the impression that the iPhone 5 had any performance issues. Additional speed is always welcome, but I could imagine some other hardware based changes?

Whatever one says about macrumors, whether ones likes it or not, whether it is needed or not, whether it spoils the surprise or not, this is the classic macrumors stories that fits the name. More than a rumor and a great find. Kudos!

1 GB RAM just doesn't cut it anymore, much like the puny 4" screen. I'd love to replace my crappy 4S, but Apple is making it very, very hard.

I agree. Jobs innovation blah blah means this new Apple product lineup. What is preventing me from going Samsung, HTC, Nexus (Google/partner),etc? I really would like to go with an iPhone myself because I like my iPad and Apple's customer service is excellent imo.

dual LED would be interesting, thank god they increased the battery capacity.
but, i was hoping for a new design.

It will be to everyone who understands the theft implications. Fingerprint ensures the only way someone gets into your device is by wiping it. Now Apple has a way to disable that phone so a thief can't use it. What they've done now is steal a brick. All they can do is resell your device for parts (screen, body, etc.) or hope they can scam someone else with it.

If they rip off you phone, they will also rip off your finger?

How about using the increased battery life to go longer without recharging?

Here is what I am looking for, I want an iPhone with a cannon EOS mount lens, full frame 35mm nitrogen cooled sensor and I want to shoot 4k uncompressed high bit depth video, about an hours worth without tethering to external storage.

I also want a cookie.

3300 mAh would improve battery life on the phone itself too since iOS is not power hungry OS as much as Android.

Just what do you think the iPphone 5s will be able to do with an extra gig of Ram that the iPhone 5 won't do? When the 5s comes out, app developers will continue to make sure all of their Apps are compatible with the 4s at the very least and in most instances with the 4 (some will still cater to the 3gs crowd). Same is true with Android app development.

Improved battery life is not good enough. Spending any battery life on a feature that will not provide benefit is a waste of battery. Give me every second you can, without greatly reducing functionality.

When the iPhone starts lagging, due to swapping RAM to flash or crashing due to stack/heap collision, then will be the time for a memory upgrade.

Well, I still have a 4S, and its 512 Megabytes (!!) of RAM are so inadequate it makes me wish for a jump to 2 GB. The 4S constantly has to reload pages in Safari (this is a huge bugbear of mine, it drives me insane) and "multitasking" is a joke.

If you never manage to exhaust the RAM even just using Safari I don't know what to tell you. Maybe I'm holding it wrong.

I agree that iOS 7 doesn't allow for real multitasking, but 2 gigs of RAM in the 5s isn't going to changes this as it will be using the same iOS 7 as the other phones. Apple should resist the urge to add hardware that doesn't add to the performance of the phone; they're also not going to release a phone with it's own seperate OS. The lack of fragmentation is one of iOS' biggests strengths and one reason APPs are so much more profitable on iOS than on Android. I do predict the iPhone 6 will have 2 gigs of RAM.

The iPhone 5 has been tested to have a very high browser speed (was the highest when released). I never used the 4s, but I know it was a big issue with the iPhone 4, which the 5 seems to have corrected with an improved CPU and increased RAM.

I agree.. the iphone 5s is just as disappointing as the 5, hopefully the 6 will have at least a bigger screen. I dont want to re-up my contract and pay 500 bucks so I can have an extra row of icons.

Talk/surf for VZW?

Anyone know or see signs that this may be able to do talk/surf on VZW? I need to dump AT&T, but don't wish to make the move until this model comes out.... that, or I need to abandon the iPhone completely. (Verizon dominated reception area)

All companies will likely have prototypes 6-12 months before mass production starts. What we don't know is how far along the design path this prototype is.

I would comfortably state your claim that Android with 'less then' 2GB of Ram is unstable as utter rubbish. Having a Nexus 7 with 1GB of Ram and the latest Android versions and it hasn't skipped a beat. Don't talk fud please. 2GB of ram is overblown for any current device IMO.

As I already stated, you can have as much ram as you want and as many cores as you want but the iOS device will STILL be the exact same speed as it is now in use, because of Apple's slow animations it insists on using.

Imagine not having to reload Safari pages all the time, or other apps after you haven't used them for a little while.

More RAM is always good.
