I think a rainbow-like color aesthetic would be nicer than the traditional logo, which I just can't picture very well alongside all the aluminum/glass. Something like the finish of the Pro30.

I'm sure they can make a similar rainbow-hue finish.

I had an Apple IIc and PowerMac 7100 back in the day. I miss the rainbow apple stickers. I would like one on my phone, but I always put a case on it. I could go for a rainbow apple on the Apple made cases.

I've been an Apple user since the original multi-colored logo was still embedded in its products. So I see absolutely no political connotations to this. (I'm sure some will, but ignorance is ignorance. What can I say?)

What I do see is Apple trying to retread old iconography in the hopes of appearing more friendly. Sadly, that hour has long passed. Steve Jobs was still alive when Apple became an acknowledged behemoth in the industry - no longer the cute little upstart, but a major player which had the power to dictate to users and competition simply at the whims of a few higher-ups. This has only been exacerbated in the 8 years that Tim has been at the helm.

Apple no longer has the "freedom" argument going for it. That was ceded to Linux about 6-7 years ago, when Apple started making non-upgradable hardware and handicapping their software. They inch out Linux in the "security/privacy" argument, but only because of the happy accident they made 20 years ago in deciding to rewrite the Mac OS with UNIX. (The rest is just window-dressing.)

In other words, you can slap a new coat of paint on something, but it ain't gonna fix the structural problems beneath. Apple has fantastic tech but an increasingly poor philosophy informing it.

I love the old rainbow logo but I'm not sure how well it would fit with the brushed aluminium finish of their more modern products. It would be quite jarring IMO.
That was my thought as well. The current design aesthetic is relatively monochromatic. Even though there are limited options like "rose gold" or "space grey", that color is carried through over the entire device, broken only by black (whether a screen or keyboard keys). A neutral Apple logo looks better with that sort of design. But it makes me wonder if there are bigger design changes coming for Apple devices that would make a rainbow logo aesthetically fit.

But matte looks dull. Seems like an awful lot of work to incorporate a logo.

Hey, it probably won't be as bad as I'm imagining. A new MBP with the colourful logo which is backlit could make it really pop, providing the colours are really vivid. The MR render is growing on me already.
THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

Too good to be true. Imagine, just imagine, a brand new line of Macintosh (not Mac) computers, beginning with the Mac Pro (renamed to be part of that line) and displays, all in dark grey aluminum with the multicolor logo as stylish and small as it used to be... Heck, a medium sized tower à la Quadra 700, with expansion slots for technologies like Intel IA, nVidia cards, and all the rest of cutting edge ports, would be almost orgasmic... Sadly, that would mean Apple would be returning to be ALSO a computer company... I’ll keep daydreaming. Regards.

Apple may be planning to reintroduce its classic rainbow logo on some of its new products as early as this year, according to a well-connected MacRumors tipster, who in turn cites a corporate Apple employee in Cupertino.

We don't know which products might be involved, but the Mac would be a good candidate, as the multicolored Apple logo was used on the original Macintosh in 1984 and on many other Apple computers before and after it. iPhones and iPads could also be suitable -- perhaps special editions along the lines of (PRODUCT)RED.

To be clear, this rumor could very well be untrue. We have elected to share it since it comes from a tipster who has longstanding connections to both Apple and related industries, but no other sources have shared similar information that we know of. And, even if true, the plans could certainly change.

Apple's rainbow or "six-color" logo made its debut on the Apple II computer in 1977 and was widely used until 1998, when it began to be phased out in favor of a monochrome Apple logo similar to the one used today.

Despite not officially using its rainbow logo in over 20 years, Apple has continued to embrace its colors over the years.

Apple Park was recently decorated with the colors of the rainbow logo in celebration of the formal opening of Apple's new headquarters, and as a tribute to Steve Jobs. The colors were splashed on stairs, walkways, coffee cups, and even a stage with a rainbow arch used for an employee-only Lady Gaga performance.

Apple's departing design chief Jony Ive recently reflected on the rainbow's significance:Again, we do not know if this rumor is true, but our tipster is reputable enough in our opinion for us to at least share what we have heard.

Chalk up another horizontal move from Apple's marketing department.

Apple used to be cutting edge and cool with their marketing moves, now they're just recycling old ideas. I mean I'm sure their staff is paid well to produce these amazing ideas, I'm just saying I could do the same for much less.

I don’t know why but I hate the look of that type of finish. Reminds me too much of pastel colors, perhaps.

On the rainbow logo, I could see it as a cool addition to already-colorful lines like the XR and iPod touch, but I agree that it may look out of place on stuff like the Pro lines. Maybe new MacBook and iMac redesigns could incorporate it well.

See, that just looks cheap to me. It reminds me of the cheap plastic shoes girls had back when I was in grade school. And if you ask my girlfriend, those shoes were hell.

Without the notch, no one will know you have the newest iPhone. With a colourful logo, everyone around you will know.

i would prefer they make this optional with a sticker or make some cases. i don't want this logo on my phone, although i wouldn't mind it on a macbook.

I predict that the next "iMac" will instead be called the "Mac". And that the rainbow logo will factor into its design somehow.

The iMac name might be too iconic to lose.

I dare say there's a generation or two who aren't even aware of the 'Mac' or 'Macintosh'.
They're familiar with the 'i' moniker... iPhones, iPods and iMacs.
