If they would release a 15" macbook at a normal price (intel i3) , mac sales would be a lot higher. Now is the time to go all the way! The have gold in their hands. Everyone wants a mac now, but too many can't affort one.

If they released a 15" MacBook for $1 sales would be astronomical. What's your point? What is a "normal" price?

Whoa there, hold on now.

Haven't avid MR members have been telling us that Lion is a failure and that everyone hates it? That's it's the worst OS release by Apple to date?

What's going on here? All these cheap and varied Windows boxes to choose from an Applw ends up selling *more* of these expensive Macs?? That run Lion, to top it off??

Exactly what I said...

Anyone who needs to do a decent amount of work of any sort can't do it on an iPad. People who don't do a decent amount of work don't need a computer. Basically the iPad is the computer for the idle rich. It's an entertainment device or a toy like the iPod (of which it's just a bigger version), which is fine, but that means it won't be making that deep an into the laptop/desktop markets.

I think iWork being released for iOS, and the fact that you can use Apple's bluetooth keyboard with it greatly increases the iPad's ability to do more "work" related things. But I do agree, I think it's unnecessary to get a 500 dollar iPad when you can just as easily buy a normal computer that was built for doing work.

They've been selling Macs despite Lion's bugginess. If Lion was actually done right sales would be much higher. People (like me) are waiting until Lion is more stable, in droves.

Those are amazing numbers. Although not entirely surprising, especially given the number of people I know switching exclusively to Macs.

There are plenty of things one can do on an iPad. Some people's jobs are research where they are reading most of the time and taking notes, others are coming up with ideas and interacting with others through conferencing. Scheduling and making appointments. Many people have to do work on the run, and if it doesn't involve extensive typing, you can do that kind of work on an iPad very well.

In fact, if it's not manual labor, I'd say that most real work is going on in someone's head while they study something visual or listen to something or are in a discussion with someone while studying a source of information presented to them. The iPad can be at the center of that in many, many cases.

Certainly not all cases. And presently, probably not most cases. But you are saying no cases. I don't buy it.

Just sayin'.

My point is , i work at a pc shop and slmost all customers want a mac. But because of the price , the buy a pc. It doens't have to be cheap, but a 1000€ 15" should be possible.

On the topic of iPad and the "iPad Market", Manufacturers have sold fewer Android tablets *to date* (3.4 million) than Apple sold iPhone 4Ses in a single weekend.

If perspective is your cup of tea, then that's a veritable leafy, cosmic caffeine blast.

Somehow what you post makes me think you never used Lion.

Obviously when I say "work" I mean "work on a computer". No computer can dig ditches. If you want to quote narrow examples where iPad can be used that doesn't change the fact that people who need to do a lot of work on a computer, which is not "all cases", can't do it on an iPad, it's too slow and too clumsy. The iPad is a steep step down in productivity from a laptop or desktop for almost all serious work.

Well I have issues with Lion but Mrs.Porco needed a new computer. I would have bought it with Snow Leopard if the option was there.

When you want a certain toaster model, but the only colour it comes in is blue, people will 'choose' the blue one.

That said, I think many people are happy with Lion too (Mrs.Porco amongst them). And then others will put up with it because it's new and likely to get at least some of issues attended to in future updates.

But it doesn't follow that 'extra mac sales = everyone loves Lion'. It might actually have more to do with 'everyone loves iPads, so maybe that new computer I need might be an Apple product too this time...'

Anyway, I think it will more amazing if there is similar future growth to the Mac now that you can buy an iPad without needing a computer of some variety to set it up. I wouldn't put it past Apple though, they're obviously doing more right than wrong for the direction they are going in...

Is that "somehow" because I say it directly in the sentence you quote?

Some people will post anything and everything, no matter how outlandish, in order to avoid admitting to a reality that they find decidedly uncomfortable.

Are you referring to yourself? That made me laugh!

Wow, this is incredible, but I really believe it. I've convinced a lot of people in my college dorm to buy a Mac, they just want something that works, and they also love Lion..

You know, kids in college should be a bit more educated than dragging that ice age argument "just works"...

Win 7 not only "just works" but it is also awesome. People make this stupid excuses for some idiotic reason. Can't you just say I WANT it without making a retarded remark that proves only your lack of knowledge/braincells/ignorance??

Seriously. What do they teach you over there. Sheep behavior or thinking?

Ice age argument? That has stood the test of time? Win 7 doesn't "just work", it takes a lot more work to get it to work smoothly than a comparable OS X installation, even Lion.

You are good a calling people names like "retarded" but where is your reasoned, logical argument (beyond "because I say so")? Nowhere to be seen...

you still need a computer to do serious processing. even for photo editing.

Walk into a large Walmart or shopping mall in middle America, and estimate the percentage of shoppers there who need to do serious processing, pro-level photo editing, or even have a clue what that is.

The Intel/Microsoft ecosystem created a bunch of serious processing "needs" that didn't really exist previously, and probably will fade out over time, except for within some much smaller specialist niches (such as hot-rodded over-clicked "gamer" PC towers).

Yep. isn't that ironic LTD? You seem to be the leader of this front.

Lion is bugged the hell out. Of course if you use safari for "work" then you probably have no issues what so ever. Me with Maya, C4D, Logic and some other tools found myself going back to SL in less than 48 hours.

Please learn to use "in my opinion" sentence before stating your perspective as a whole user base which obviously is nothing but your fanboy beloved crap.

I think a lot of Mac people out there haven't used Windows 7. I think people are judging it based on their experience with Vista, which is like comparing apples and oranges. Two completely different versions of Windows. I've used Windows 7 on other people's PC's before, and I can say that it is nice. I prefer OS X, but that's just my personal preference. To each his own.

But yeah, they both "just work". That's no longer a valid argument when someone's defending Mac OS X.

Seen in where?
Go work with some of the systems/tool you troll about so often and then start posting about it. I can clearly tell A LOT of people playing smart on this forums didn't have touch with other OS since early Vista stages or so on. It's simply a fact how certain things work these days yet people drag the same old boring stuff they read on the previous post. This is obvious lol

No problem. 4.8 million or so sheep who have made a conscious choice vs. 60 million+ other sheep who ask "does it come with Windows and does it have Word?" "Does it have the internet"? "Can I bring it back here when it gets a virus?"

I like those odds. Baaaa-baaaa! :apple:

you still need a computer to do serious processing. even for photo editing. if you need a computer, then you go to Apple rathern than Dell, Toshiba Sony or HP. It's market share from those guys that Macs are winning over. The iPad is an incremental 'luxury' category IMHO

Are there still *******s out there that think an iphone or and ipad can replace the computer? Those are people that don't need computers, the same type of morons that think their iphone camera pics warrant a flickr page.

If you're good at something, you want real equipment. No hipster gen-y fad argument will ever change that fact.

And once again, this thread turns out to be one of those "...but iPad isn't a real computer!" debate.

For the record, I do indeed think any iOS5 device can be one's only computer, if they were so inclined. Post PC era FTW.

Macs score highest in customer satisfaction. Again

Apple sells record number of Macs with Lion.

Result:

Nerd rage ensues.

Corollary result:

iPad still not understood.
