I give up. What on earth is going on with the pricing on these two (your second and fifth link)? $2,889 vs. $4,379 on what appears to be… identical configs?

That seems really quick to seem them in the Refurbished Store. Less than 3 months since launch.

Often times refurbished is a product pulled off the production line due to some defect. The defect is corrected, but cant be sold as new. Atleast i have been told this in regard to refurbished photography equipment, like from Canon. I dont know if that is an actual rule, or an ethical policy the company sets for itself...

Then there are a few cases of "refurbished" iphones people get to replace their damaged phone...which have turned out to be water damaged units on occasion. I think that is a completely different kind of "refurbished".

At this point, that's silly. The fastest 2015 model is 19% slower in single-core and 56% in multi-core than the slowest 2019 model (the fastest? 27%/104%). And that's only the CPU…
I don't think it's silly. In terms of accessibility of ports, reliable keyboard design, and ability to upgrade storage....the 2015 in compared to what's offered now is not at all silly. The 2015's were plenty fast when first released and even now it still is. Disabling csrutil and running purge_wrangler script, a fairly easy thing to do, can give you access of using thunderbolt 2 for eGPU support; that's what I do with my 2012 macbook. I know there are some limitations however when we look at the compromises made with the current lineup (thinness over function) I think the tradeoff is negligible.

with new design coming as the next one supposedly:

Considering that nearly every brand new Macbook Pro is 12% off over at B&H, Apple's 15% discount for "refurbished" isnt very appealing.

But hey, if you havent learned to price check on major purchases, then you kind of deserve to be tricked.

WTH Refurbished is actually so much cheaper, according to those screenshots as well. Just paid 3400 CAD for a MacBook Pro a month ago and now refurbished is 100 dollars cheaper with a 1TB drive. Next Macbook I'm doing refurbished for sure. When those 16' come out in October, refurbished or trade up it is lol

It's true that if you're looking for a standard config, the refurbished prices are not very appealing compared to the "deal" prices that Apple resellers are having regularly in recent months.

Refurbished is a fantastic deal in two situations, IMO:
  1. When seeking a BTO (e.g. Vega or large SSD) model, as I've never seen a BTO model on sale. (Specifically, I've been looking at the Vega models.)
  2. The next MBP, assuming it fixes many of the perceived flaws with the current generation and vaults Apple back to the top of the premium portable laptop market, is likely to be more popular than the current model and go on sale much less often. In this situation, a refurbished model allows for something of a "deal" year-round.

I think it seems surprising.

I haven't been keeping track, but I don't recall any recent Macs that were on the refurbished store less than 3 months after launch.
Maybe there's some QC issues with a bunch of machines that never made it to sale, but repairing them meant that they could not offer the same warranties etc. Refurbished may not mean it's ever been used.

Exact same warranty on refurbished Macs from Apple as on the new ones!

You can also get AppleCare+ on them, too!

Real world speed vs. your quoted percentages are two different things. My 2015 15" is plenty fast. Loads everything I use almost instantly. It's still a great computer despite being xx% slower than whatever computers you're talking about.

But let's face it, the design problems of this current generation have been pretty spectacularly bad. I'm gonna be optimistic and say that Apple has learned their lesson. We may not see the return of MagSafe, but I have a feeling this upcoming generation of MacBook pros will be a marked improvement in a number of ways.
I hope so too. Though Apple have been saying that for the past 3 years

All of the refurbished MacBook Pro models are discounted by right around 15 percent. For the most affordable May 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.4GHz processor and 256GB of storage, the discount drops the price from $1,799 to $1,529.

I would not buy any Macbook 2016+ even if they discounted 50%.

They are way overpriced, and with MAJOR design problems.
Among them, bad keyboard, soldered components, non upgradable, no mag safe, useless touchbar.

why would apple even think im interested when they are selling duel core machines in the macbook air for over 1000 dollars when everyone is selling quad cores of the same cpu for half the money and apples 1.4 quad core machines in their "pro" line when the market is flooded with quad core 8565u machines. does apple even look at what other people are offering because their lineup doesnt reflect competitively to that. seriously apple there is no fn way your going to get me to spend 1200+ on a duel core machine in 2019.

Does it mean that a lot of Macbook Pro users out there are returning their laptops?
If that is the case, why?

For my part, I was considering on getting a Macbook Pro and I am glad I didn't :) becuase for around $3000 I was able to get a windows laptop with 32GB Ram, 1 TB Nvme, i7 9th gen, 144hz 3ms screen, RTX 2070 and it is not refurbish :)

I got it from a local store but here is the link about the laptop

https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ROG-Zephyrus-S-GX502/

its a gaming laptop but thin and light enough for mobile works and the good thing is the design is not flashy like most gaming laptop is. you can bring it to a meeting and your client wouldn't notice that what you have is a gaming laptop :)
I have to mention though, the power brick is huge. Its 4 times bigger compared to my Macbook Air power adapter, that is in mass and volume. They can't make it small because its a 230watts power brick. That's how much power this laptop requires to fully utilize its capabilities. You can use a 65watts through its USB-C port but I think you will be running with the intel HD graphics not the RTX 2070 graphics card. Havent tried it though, Macbook Air USB-C power adapter is only 45watts.

if you are a content creator check this one

https://www.razer.com/gaming-laptops/razer-blade

the advanced model has samsung oled 4k screen (60hz). this one is just about 0.7 inch thick and 2 kg. However i've read a handful of articles in the Internet that some are having issues out of the box. Most of it are blue screen of death, I believe it has something to do with the CPU undervolted. Out of the box Razer undervolted the CPU to keep it from thermal throtling and this can be fix by firmware or bios updates. if your really like the minimalist design of Macbook then you will really like Razer Blade.

another option is

https://www.gigabyte.com/Laptop#156-inch,AERO-series

this one has a lot of ports including a very fast SDCard port which is a must for content creators that works with cameras and stuffs like that.. it also has a Samsung UHD OLED 4k version and like the Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX502 it has an empty slot of NVME/SATA port so that you can expand your storage to 2TB.

Yep - for many people's needs, the latest "greatest" is far from necessary. I love my 2015 MBP & it is as fast as I need, has a lovely keyboard, and all the ports I require. There ARE people out there who need the fastest laptop possible for their work, but I would guess for the majority, not necessary...
Owning a Fast Car is only really worthwhile when you can drive it fast ;)
