Apple's Refurbished Store Now Offering iPhones

1- Do they come on official sealed boxes?
2- If you verify the serial number online will it show the original release date or the refurbished one??

I'll laugh if this outsells iphone 7 series....

Apple had been focusing heavily on refurbished stuff as of late.

EDIT: At least these 6s have 3.5 jack.

Considering how the price of the 6, 6S, and 7 may crater when (if) this major refresh hits in just 7 months, I'd avoid buying anything at this point unless you absolutely have to have it now (e.g. you drop your phone in a wood chipper).

Quick comparison with Swappa....

Mint condition 6s 16GB (A1688) is $400-$420 and good condition is $370-$390 vs $449 + tax (if applicable) from Apple. That extra $50-$80 you're paying with Apple gets you a 1 year warranty.

Mint condition 6s Plus 16Gb (A1687) is $470 and good condition is ~ $400 vs $529 + tax (if applicable) from Apple. That extra $60-$130 you're paying with Apple gets you a 1 year warranty.

Might be worth getting 6s from Apple since it's only $50-$80 more for warranty, but not so much for 6s Plus IMO.
1 year warranty and a new battery. That right there is worth it to me, since battery health can be a real crapshoot on a used phone.

Most of the time refurbished products come in plain white box with nice packaging inside. And the serial number is not associated with the pre refurbished device. But I'm sure the new serial number reflects it being a refurb.

If I was in the market, I'd definitely pay the bit of a premium and buy from Apple direct. It'll be like new and with warranty and unlocked and no risk of buying a blacklisted phone. If Apple has a steady supply of these refurb phones, it'll definitely drive down resell prices.

This would be something I might consider if they offered the 6s in a capacity other than 16 GB. C'mon, Apple!

Well this will kill the resale market.

Not likely. Especially considering that you can currently buy a 128 GB 6s in mint condition from reputable sellers on Swappa for only $50 more than Apple is charging for the refurbed 16 GB 6s. The 1 year warranty from Apple on refurbs is nice but I'd rather save the money, personally.

I hope Apple flags the ones that have been in the bathroom:

Surely they could use Find My iPhone data and setup GPS fencing and enabling remote locking if one ever finds its way to and being used in one.

Great option especially considering it comes from Apple and you can get AppleCare with them. The big drawback is the 16GB of storage.

Bought my original iPhone refurb'd from Apple - but they haven't sold them directly since.

Glad to see this pop back up!

Only one dongle joke so far! Still one too many, but it's progress!

Really nice move on Apple's part. Been waiting for this for a loooong time and will probably be my recommendation to a few family members looking to upgrade from 5S and earlier phones at the moment.

So this is where all of the iPhone upgrade program phones end up...
I was speaking to a Material engineer the other day and he was saying that the iPhone was the most worth phone as scrap out of all the consumer phones. There is one phone that cost £5,000 which was worth more but just as scrap value, the iPhones are one of the few phones worth recycling

About time. I bought a backup 4Gig Original iPhone this way - was way cheaper plus it was already discontinued. All you needed was a jailbreak and was set to go on T-Mobile.

I would rather buy unlocked a little bit out of date anyways...

Exactly! But I trade my phone in each year to the carrier. Basically I'm just renting the phone. And sometimes you get better deals on new devices when you trade in your old phone. Right now Verizon will give me $300 for my S6 which is more than what I'll get elsewhere. Or the iPhone SE deal I did about 2 months ago when I got $400 in Target gift cards.
