not quite true, they did for a short time offer refurbished phones waaaaaay back in like the days of the 3G. that was when they were still exclusive to ATT

Agreed. And those prices aren't bad either. Plus you have the insurance it's coming from Apple with the warranty.

I totally agree. Most people will see this as a better, safer route to take. Others will expect those people selling their iPhones to sell them at a much lower price to make up for the lack of a new warranty, same old dying battery, no inspection of the components or new scratch-free shell. In other words, selling your iPhone privately will no longer generate the past high amounts of cash that you can use toward paying for your subsidy-free full price iPhone or payments.

Considering how the price of the 6, 6S, and 7 may crater when (if) this major refresh hits in just 7 months, I'd avoid buying anything at this point unless you absolutely have to have it now (e.g. you drop your phone in a wood chipper).

Some people don't care about refresh.

At least with these, you're guaranteed to get a good unit that's not going to need to be replaced due to infant mortality.

These are probably "better" than new because they've been carefully looked over and tested... unlike new units that are stamped out by the millions every day.

This will be the direction I'll go in the future.

Anyone know if you can add Applecare on top of the original warranty to these refurb phones, like you can on brand new iPhones?

yeap
[doublepost=1478643395][/doublepost]I grabbed one...the wifes birthday is on sunday and its cheaper for a 64GB 6splus with apple care then a 7.

1- Do they come on official sealed boxes?
2- If you verify the serial number online will it show the original release date or the refurbished one??
If they are like other refurb products Apple sells, they'll come with a refurb model and serial number. They don't inherit the history of their past life.

Well this will kill the resale market.
And your point is...? If there is a sale opportunity, Apple can and should take it, if it's profitable. Just because you bought a phone doesn't mean you're entitled to a certain resale price to sell at.

Not in New Zealand yet either but then we often don't get things the US store does (like Mac Pros).

If they do I know where my next iPhone is coming from.
what do you mean we didn't get Mac Pros? They sell it in NZ Store

Coupling one of these refurb'ed phones with Verizon's $50/mo. 5GB prepaid plan would be a pretty sweet way to go for cellular/smartphone service.

Dang, do want refurbished iPhone SE.

Give them a couple of weeks.

Hopefully they are better than their Genius Bar service swap phones. I'm on my second, and it has low better life out of either of the other two.

But isn't the NZ store a third party store, and not an Apple owned one? When I was there, people bitched about having to go to OZ to get to an Apple Store.

It's true there's no Apple Stores here, but we have Apple Authorised Resellers. You can do whatever you can do at an Apple Store with these guys, but yes the support is limited, your privileged is also toned down (like for example, there's no story we can swap used cases that we bought) and yes, online orders are normally dispatched from Sydney Apple Store.

These are the lease phones that are being returned when people got their iPhone 7. Same kind of phone they give you when you have a problem, even when it's still under warranty.

This will hurt the resale market.

When I sell my phones, they always still have a year of AC plus on them and mine are pristine because they stay in cases.

I guess this means Apple wants everyone who upgrades yearly on their upgrade program. ;)
