You're surprised because either you lack long term memory or you're rather new to Apple's traditional practices. It's selling well because Apple is following their tried and true business practice and that being to look at the big picture, and not the vocal minority, which includes you.

Besides failing GPUs, which Apple will address anyway because of warranty, and a buggy Touchbar which eventual software updates will address (gimmicky being subjective), everything else on your list are the same kinds of things we've already seen stretching all the way back to the very first iMac that Steve Jobs unveiled back in 1997, and has been the norm with every new major Mac product announcement since. Miniaturization, removal of legacy tech, including ports, and continued soldering are nothing new in Apple's history.

In other words, nothing has changed, only the people have.

I can really only laugh at these excuses. I can't believe there's STILL that one guy...

We could easily just have an iMac, Macbook/Macbook Pro, iPad/iPad Pro, iPhone/iPhone Plus product line. Would be way less confusing for consumers without the iPod, Macbook Air, iPad Air, Mac Pro, and Mac Mini names cluttering things.

I agree, and still need to reduce it further: iMac, MacBook, iPad, iPhone.
There's no need to be pretentious and label something as "Pro" just cause it has a bigger screen or a better camera.
For each product, allow the customer to choose screen size, memory, camera, etc.

Please remove Timmy. He's destroying the meaning of "premium".

Better Headline - Tim Cook Left Apple Behind This Year.

1. Removed 3.5mm headphone jack from iPhone
2. Made the Macbook Pro less pro
3. Neglected iMac
4. Ditched Display Business
5. Has made a loyal Apple customer not find any interest in any product in the Apple store

Get that man out of there. Please. Seriously.

-Signed Mac Pro Tower 2012 / 15 inch Macbook Pro 2011 / iPhone 6 user

I'll second sign this.. a iPad Pro 9.7", 2010 15" MacBook Pro (my fourth Mac), and iPhone 3GS, 4, 5, 6S, 7, iPod Touch current gen and iPod Nano 3rd gen and Time Capsule first gen..... user...

I've only been to the Apple Store once in the past year (to see the new Macbook Pro). Otherwise, there isn't anything new happening to look at/drool over and I find no reason to stop by anymore. IPhone 7 or watch were not worth upgrading from my current phone and watch. I agree, where are the new and updated Macs? Lackluster, to say the least.

I finally got a chance to demo the 13" MBP without TB, with TB and the 15". All I can say is that they are sleek and appeared to be very responsive using Garageband and a few other apps. I don't think TB is necessarily a game changer but it has some nice utility in Garageband and some minor uses.
If they weren't overpriced (IMO) I might consider one instead of waiting for a new iMac.
As for critics disappointment, perhaps they weren't expecting some incredible innovation in a form factor that too mature for groundbreaking new features. Apple plainly isn't interested in a touch screen in desktops or laptops. Whether they are correct or MS is correct remains to be seen. The market will be the ultimate arbitrator. To me, touch screen fits a small niche need.
For my needs, if not for Logic Pro X, I could get by on an iPad.

And I'm not surprised there's still people like you to this day. Haters on about just everything Apple does have been around since that time in 1997. Heck, go check out the forum thread on the announcement of the first iPod on this forum. It'll be like looking in the mirror.

The decline in Mac sales in 2016 is easy to explain. People were holding off until the launch of the new MacBooks, even more so the closer you came to the actual launch.

Just give me a tablet with no ports that is water resistant and a file system. Let Ives go nuts designing it. Wireless charging, no limitations, W1 chip integration and some hope of airpods some day.

"Small niche" need of most students in the world. Just to begin with.

Agreed, more demanding and a lot more anger. Although I'm as I said before, selling a Mac Mini with a 5400rpm hdd is basically a joke and their prices are way too high. If they lowered their pricing even by 15% they would dominate... mental...

There's a lot of things I also don't agree with Apple's choice. What you said is one great example, as well as selling an iMac in 2016 with the same 5400RPM drive is pretty preposterous too. I also think they were extremely late in upping the storage capacities on their iOS devices.

But a sense of entitlement and a lot of anger issues definitely seem like the norm with users these days! Must be a generational thing.

I can't even count the number of working professionals I know that have abandoned apple for their work machines as apple has so obviously abandoned them.
An iPad is not a proper platform for generating work product.

Haters? Please refrain from using elementary grade insults.

Regardless, you're making excuses. Please stop.

Fine. Disgruntled users.

And I'm not making excuses. The market is deciding, as per your confusion. You can attack me all day on this forum, while actual numbers keep rolling in for Apple. And that's how it's always been. Disgruntled users shout. Apple keeps selling.

But go on, keep being disgruntled.

No, the market DID NOT decide. Apple decided for you and you agreed to it. You're making excuses yet again.

STOP IT.

I love Apple but I have too say that they are screwing with all Mac users. The new MBP is underpowered dongle fest and their lack on updates on the Mac desktop line completely absurd. Add their disregard for displays and Airport. It has been hard to praise Apple.
Tim and the fat executive boys club need to go away,

The more I think about it, the worse the situation is. Cook is incredibly unproductive. Thousands of employees. Billions spent on R&D. Nothing to show for it. He needs to get out of Apple as soon as possible before it's too late.
Not looking good, is it.

My desktop upgrade is planned for around late 2017-early 2018. If Apple have not got their act together by then, I am switching to a basic Linux box for the desktop.

But the haters that hate on new tech that Apple releases seem like they're just completely new to the game.

Agreed, my i7 MacBook Air is absolute class and I don't plan on changing it anytime soon but I am interested to see where they take iOS for sure. Personally I think it has great potential and that they just require someone with balls to make some bold decisions.

Having used and managed Mac OS, iOS, Chrome, Linux, Android and Windows devices, my personal preferences are Mac for the vast majority of my work, Windows for gaming, iOS for personal media consumption and phone OS and Chrome or Windows for implementing managed dumb user workstations. Linux is used for some bits and pieces, mostly bare metal or custom stuff. Android - used by those who prefer it over iOS. No doubt others would disagree but thi is how I see the world right now...

Refresh required and prices could do with being lowered but that's it, no need for a full on hate-fest...

So .. if the numbers are not 'rolling' this time next year, will you come back to Bladerunner and admit he was onto something?

Thanks for saying it in other words: The MacBook Pro is selling.

Again, not making excuses. I'm merely repeating lessons in history.

It should still be upgraded to USB-C (just don't take away everything else - there's plenty of space for a couple of USB-A and ethernet) and surely there's a new GPU option?

The Surface Studio is indeed "amazinnnggggg" - until you look at the specs. Couldn't care less about Kaby Lake, but no fast i/o (not even USB3.1 gen 2), a hybrid drive with a 5200rpm HD component, no all-SSD option, less-than spectacular GPU... real let-down. If I was inclined to spend $4k on a whim I'd get one to have fun with, but it fails the "could this be my daily driver for the next 4-5 years" test.

It should definitely be upgraded but it makes sense to hold off a few months until they can also upgrade the CPU.

for sure disappointing to see a slow 2.5" hard drive for what they are charging

So .. if the numbers are not 'rolling' this time next year, will you come back to Bladerunner and admit he was onto something?

Of course. But there have been countless folks like Bladerunner all the way back since 1997.

LOL, yeah some people have unfortunately bought it, but it's not selling like hotcakes. Except you conveniently WILL NOT mention that.

Why are you dishonest?

I'm not dishonest at all. It's selling better than any laptop right now. That's the metric we should be looking at. If PC laptops sell x amount of units and the MacBook Pro is continuing to sell 1.5x units, then it's succeeding just fine against an already shrinking market place for computers. Note that my previous sentence or not anywhere in my previous posts did I ever imply that it's "selling like hotcakes" either.

Lets be honest guys, given Apple's recent trends you might be better off buying the current gen Mac products, if you want to stay in the ecosystem, it'll probably be a better value. I noticed today that Apple's refurbished Macbook Pros are all gone (I'm not counting the 2012 models they are still selling LOL). That tells you something. We've reached a stage in the game that the latest and greatest is mostly an unecessary luxury. The best argument I've heard against the new Pros is that dongles and hubs are inherently less reliable than connecting directly to your machine. As ridiculous as expecting people to buy brand-new USB-C accessories is, they aren't even widely available yet. People who buy this laptop are going to be stuck with less reliable dongle-based workflows for several years or more (why would I need to buy a new external HD when the 3 I have with USB-A work just fine?) Do you really think its beyond Apple to make their new iMacs USB-C only?

Meh. Everyone that is complaining about Cook needs to stop supporting Apple if they really are that upset. It's been clear that Apple's main business is the iPhone since its introduction. Thanks mostly to Apple, you all have a computer in yr pocket that you could only dream about fifteen race ago. Conversely, the iPad's problem has always been software. They'll either figure it out or get left behind. If you look at yr alternatives, then you'll see there are few and between. Quit complaining and step aside, geezers.
