No, you don't get to spread crap on the forums, blame the consumer (forum members!), say things are going great, conveniently ignore facts, etc. and then say 'let's leave it that'.

I'm not letting this go, you've made it perfectly clear that the demands and criticisms from THIS community are to be undermined, ignored and skewed to meet YOUR agenda which again IS A LIE.

You're a terrible poster on this forum. You've contributed nothing but a dishonest pro-apple sentiment at all costs to this forum as if you've had secured stocks in Apple that would only benefit you financially with no regard for the integrity of the company and especially the forum members and the millions of Apple consumers that been given the SHAFT through all the disgusting things that Apple has done in recent years.

No I'm not spreading crap on this forum. The MBP is selling. Maybe not the "best" like LordVic points out, but it is selling. And I truly believe that in 2 to 3 years time, when Apple does drop the price on it, that it will once again be a very hot seller for Apple. This prediction is based off the last two decades of Apple business.

And I am not ignoring facts as I addressed your entire list in your initial post. But its clear that you hate and loathe the new MBP and have already written it off as a flop, which as you blame me for not having any evidence, so you too, do not have any evidence of it being a flop.

And I fail to see how this meets my agenda as I really have no stock in Apple. But will you believe me? Probably not. I'm just a poster on a forum. If this whole issue ticks you off, you know where that ignore button is.

I think people need to get comfortable with the fact that computers are no longer going to change much from year to year. Sales are contracting, chip makers are focused on portability over speed, and most people no longer need to more powerful computer to run current software.

Basically, the computer you buy today isn't going to be much different than the computer you can buy in two or three years.
I think that if Apple sold their laptops at reasonable prices, most people would agree. But, when you sell for 2-4x what every other company sells for with worse hardware, you're wearing out your welcome.

Alright! Back onto the real issue at hand;

What do Apple consumers do now that Apple is essentially selling yesterday's tech (that's also gimped) with tomorrow's prices? What are the alternatives? Me personally, I went the Hackintosh route for a desktop but what about laptops? Anyone got experience with the Razer Blade? It looks pretty solid on paper especially with that matte finish display.

Thoughts?

I tried a Surface Book, but just can't do it. Windows works well, but isn't as refined and seamless an experience. For example, I tried to play Forza Horizon 3 (I didn't buy it to game), but it gave me a graphics driver error. Micorsoft showed playing this game in the store and commercials. So I looked it up and Microsoft recommends checking for updates, but there wren't any. So... I had to go to Nvidia's site and downlolad their driver to get everything working. On a dedicated windows machine made by the maker of Windows I wouldn't expect that. It doesn't "just work". The hardware is beautiful, but still doesn't compare to the Apple experience. The Razor Blade does look good though. I'll hang in there for awhile and hope they just have something that is taking awhile.

On a side note, they have way too many products now and it's confusing. They need to do what Steve Jobs did when he came back to Apple and simplify the lineup.

Well in the UK you can get the 2015 MacBook Pro still or the Razer Blade or the new Alienware machines which are very good value, and then their is the Dell XPS.

In my opinion the iPad will never be as convenient as a MacBook. The 2016 nTB MBP for example is thin, it's light, has a gorgeous display, good speakers, 10h battery life and decent processing power. Even if you don't want to shell out an atrociously 1500$ + taxes you can purchase the 2015 model like I did the day before the 2016 was introduced. Although I own an iPad mini I rarely use it for anything other than reading. It's awkward to hold while on the coach, I usually block the speakers with my hand and it is and remains just a blown up iPhone that doesn't do anything better and will never replace a laptop. If apple thinks a tablet is a replacement for your computer they are obviously not addressing the pros. It seems they have abandoned that market for good a long time ago. At this point they would be better off to completely abandon their desktop line and start licensing their software. One might assume such tendency when looking what happened to the cinema display. If you're one of the few people out there in the market who are aware of their requirements for a desktop machine, you might as well just build your own. Give us the cMP chassis and a license to your software and let us build in whatever we want.

The driver issue for GPUs is normal though, I've never seen or heard a custom built rig or premade one from a manufacturer have all the driver updates come in and get updated automatically handled by a 3rd party. It's unfortunate but with so much choice in the PC world, it's pretty difficult to get it into a system like Apple's automatic updates, which are great btw. I had Windows 7 earlier this year and wanted to install Overwatch and Battlefield 1; I needed Windows 7 SP1 for Overwatch and a new version of Origin for BF1 to play but that required SP1 eventhough the game's requirements dont state that.

Holy mother of god, the update never happened. At first you end up on this page:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/15090/windows-7-install-service-pack-1-sp1

Which isn't the update itself and didnt work. Then I found a page with about 8 different links to the actual SP1 update file and god forbid they'd label it properly. Once downloaded, the update AGAIN did not work and I just got an error each time.

Ended up saying screw it and got Windows 10.

That's one of the things Microsoft really needs to work on: SIMPLIFYING things. Certain things are so terribly executed... it's a damn nightmare. But drivers for Nvidia... hard to implement. I think Nvidia and MS would have to work together to have an updater built into Windows.

Is this what Tim meant from the email that he likes Mac?!

If he really used the phrase "like" it basically means: **** this old ugly piece of ****.
When something is positive, it's magical, phenomenal, unapologetic.
Tim saying he "likes" the Mac is more of an insult.

I think it'd be a wise decision for any one of those guys to do as Gigabyte does and make their laptops be 'secretly' capable of being Hackintoshed. Just slap in some more mainstream parts like the wifi card, soundcard, an AMD GPU (since Apple stupidly didnt go with the Pascal cards from Nvidia), etc. and you'd have a real winner and best of both worlds.

If the schedules aren't to blame then nobody would be complaining about the new MBPs power because the Kaby Lake chips would be out. If the schedules aren't to blame, then why is the iMac waiting on desktop Kaby Lake processors and Polaris/Vega graphics?
...
Given that Apple has a longer generational gap than any other major similar company... it's certainly an... odd decision to time a release 2 months before critical components refresh.

If Dell, Lenovo etc can sit out this Christmas season for January - companies with a fraction of the monetary reserves as Apple - it seems odd Apple can't wait 8 weeks.

It's about Christmas sales, not customer needs... and a crippled machine for 18 months.

Well, Dell actually released their new XPS laptops with Kaby Lake in October 2016 - you can order the new XPS 13 with an i5-72000U or i7-7500U. Seems like Apple either missed the boat, or had strong doubts that Intel would deliver mobile Kaby Lake CPUs in time for the 2016 Christmas season...

We're talking quadcore, which is with manufactures now, released in January.

Apple ignoring dualcore Kabylake is a whole different basket of weird...

But both the mac mini and pro pictured are way too big, you know size is the most important factor for both the pro and home user! I get so frustrated every time I put some expansion cards in my two Mac Pros... would be so much more fun with a few dongles!

And, please, remove the IR sensor on the mini. It's totally non-brave, useless and only reminds old-enough customers of the Front Row software which was physically holding people from their inner need to purchase an Apple TV for the same purpose.

Ah you are mistaking the legacy IR sensor for the new Thunderballs connector.

Which will be needed to connect the all new Magic Cookstick.

Yeah, very good point. I'm using the touch bar MBP, and it's nice enough, but I have to admit that I feel like I'm overpaying for what I got, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Could you just stop posting all together? All you do is disrespect consumers and forum members with lies. You're still doing it.

You don't have to like or agree with my opinions, and I still don't understand exactly where I lied but I'm certainly not going to stop posting simply because someone on the the internet said so. Also, I don't think I've disrepected anyone by giving a more realistic, albeit positive view on the subject matter.

That said, glad to see you're taking a good look at the alternatives. Voting with your wallet is good thinking. Hope you find your perfect dream machine.

It is strange. Considering how many they employ you'd think they could easily cope with phones, ipads and macs. I'd imagine it's more to do with lack of leadership than resources.

They definitely need more strategic long term hires.

This is the most prophetic video about his own company that I've seen. This is apples trajectory to the letter:

Why? Enlighten me on why the average student needs a touchscreen. I need to know so I can good choices for my grandkids.

Go into a university lecture hall 5 years ago... it's wall-to-wall glowing Apples.

Go today? It's 90% Surface Pro 4s.

Students have already decided, and Apple is yesterday's fad.

if you do your research beforehand a hackbook is a piece of cake. recently did a HP Elitebook 8470p and I had OSX running 100% on it in about 45 minutes start to finish, only thing I had to do was swap the wifi card.

When looking at the current state of the Mac lineup, the new MacBook Pro is the only model Apple has updated over the past seven-plus months. Even the latest MacBook Pro models required a 527-day wait, which was considerably longer than the average of 320 days between previous MacBook Pro refreshes.

mac-dont-buy.jpg

A glance at our own MacRumors Buyer's Guide shows the new MacBook Pro is the only Mac currently listed with a "Buy Now" status, as all other models beyond the 12-inch MacBook have not been refreshed for significant periods of time. The longest overdue is the Mac Pro, last updated 1,084 days ago.o iMac -- 420 days ago
o MacBook Air -- 638 days ago
o Mac mini -- 782 days ago
o Mac Pro -- 1,084 days agoThe lack of updates can be at least partially attributed to Apple having to wait on chipmakers and suppliers such as Intel, AMD, and Nvidia, each of which follow their own product roadmaps, although that cannot be the only reason given Skylake processors are now readily available for update-deprived Macs.

A lack of meaningful updates to several Macs this year impacted Apple's bottom line, as Mac revenue has declined for four consecutive quarters year-over-year. The declines have worsened each quarter, starting with a 3% drop in Q4 2015 and progressing to a 17% drop in Q3 2016, according to Strategy Analytics.

Apple investors now await the company's first quarter earnings results to see if the new MacBook Pro models will be able to reverse that trend.

Conversely, after several down quarters, the iPad has experienced a mostly upward trajectory over the past year, thanks largely in part to the iPad Pro's higher average selling price. Apple's tablet revenue is now stable on a year-over-year basis, after dipping as low as -21% one year ago.

Strategy Analytics senior analyst Eric Smith attributes the stabilizing effect to Apple's renewed focus on iPads. He said Apple entered the 2-in-1 tablet market with the iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard right in time to renew growth and capitalize on growing enterprise demand in the future.

Recognizing that Microsoft was changing the computing device market, Smith said Apple "pretty much forgot about Mac" in order to attack the 2-in-1 tablet segment with the release of iPad Pro models over the past year.Apple's move was rather effective, as iPad market share has stabilized at 22% over the past two years after declining for the previous four years. But it would seem it took a change in stance to get there as, in the past, Apple essentially dismissed the idea of releasing a tablet-notebook hybrid.

ios-ipad-market-share.jpg

During a 2012 earnings call, when asked to comment on why the MacBook Air and iPad would not eventually converge, Apple CEO Tim Cook argued that combining the products would result in compromises. "You can converge a toaster and a refrigerator but those won't be pleasing to the user," he said.

By contrast, earlier this year Apple released a TV ad called "What's a Computer?" that positions the iPad Pro as a computer. "Imagine what your computer could do if your computer was an iPad Pro," the tagline concludes.

Likewise, Cook said the iPad Pro is a notebook or desktop computer replacement for many people. "They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones," he added. "I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?"

In the post-PC era, it is perhaps unsurprising that Apple's attention has shifted more towards the iPhone--and by extension, the iPad. But many faithful customers are hoping Apple will eventually turn its sights back to the Mac, following what some critics believe was a disappointing MacBook Pro update amid an aging lineup of Macs.

Rumors suggest Apple will launch new iMacs in the first six months of 2017, and at least one model is said to include an option for new AMD graphics chips. The roadmap for other Macs remains less clear.

I recently built a hackintosh using only 600 Euros and got the same, if not better performance than any hardware from them for 1600 or more. Sure I had to jump few hoops to get OSX working properly but that's getting easier and easier.

honestly I have to disagree. the under the hood changes started with Yosemite and progressing under El Cap and Sierra such as SIP have made it much more difficult to get it going for novices. folks who know what they're doing can get a much more close to 100%, but things like USB3 fixes and the steadily worsening support for newer nVidia GPUs are making it much more difficult to get a workable hack. Mavericks period was really the "golden age" of Hackintosh IMO
