This should go over really well with those that forked over cash for the Studio Display last year...
Why would we care?
I mean, if it hadn't been delayed, I would have had plenty time to cancel the Studie Display that took months to ship if I preferred (and could afford) the nicer one.

But now that I have it, the Studio Display will not be worse if a better model appears sooner rather than later.

(But it does prove again, waiting for a rumored product update is a sure path to frustration.)

I still have and am using 4 of them. More than adequate for everyone except gamers. Still nice and bright too.

Adequate is not a term I would find acceptable for a monitor that cost $999 new. It was 'fine' in 2011 - it was embarassing for the price in 2016.

If you're paying a few hundred bucks used, maybe. But 109ppi is low for a lot of things - even text editing is going to look soft at that density.

Grumble. I'm about to dump my ancient iMac and replace it with the Mini M2 Pro. Had hoped they'd roll out a new display. Guess I'll hold off for the Viewfinity S9 to see what that has to offer before jumping on the Mini M2 Pro.

120hz miniLED and all the other features of the studio display, at 2499 and its an instabuy for me to replacr aging dell p2415q

Three P2715Qs here. Just put mini-LED in a desktop monitor, with more than a dozen zones, and less than $5K, please.

Honestly, these days I'm more excited about the new Samsung S9 as I'm pretty sure it will be cheaper than the stupid Studio Display which is insanely overpriced.
On top of all, Samsung runs promotions from time to time so in the fall we could get a decent discount. If the S9 doesn't have issues then that will be my next monitor. I had the Studio but for the price I returned it. Crappy camera, no stand adjustment and insane price tag = no thank you

I got mine on sale for $1299. When I see all the threads with pages and pages from people wrestling with compatibility issues and workarounds with inexpensive monitors, I know I made the right choice. The bit of extra pain in the wallet was worth the 30 second set up with my MBP. Great sound, great screen and it just works. Love it!

Ugh - I was close to getting a second Studio display (Costco had them at $1299 a short while back) but held off because of this rumor. I don't really need mini-LED and I probably won't like the price, but I at least want to see what's on offer before pulling the trigger.

I do wonder what'll happen to the Pro Display XDR if they don't release another display in the next couple of years. Will they discontinue it or just continue to sell a display from late 2019 for original price in 2024?
Same price in 2024.

Are Mac users clamouring for another even more expensive display?

Have you seen the monitor market lately? There's literally nothing worth buying aside from 42" LG OLED's, Apple's OEM stuff, or the monitors that use the Samsung QD-OLED panel (Alienware, et al.)

Everything else is trash. There's so much marketshare potential here.

I don't want expensive, I want better. M-series MacBook Pro displays are amazing. I want a desktop monitor version, and I'm willing to pay for it.

Exactly how I feel too. The laptops have a display that is unparalleled, you literally cannot get a desktop display that meets the level of capability of these laptops. You can get some of the specs but not all. Mostly you have to give up 120Hz Promotion if you want a really good HDR and you have to give up the best-in-class HDR if you want 120Hz.

There's just nothing that has it all. I'm willing to pay thousands for a 27"-32" display with the same specs as the laptop displays have at this point.

How can you even say that? 42" LG is 4K which at this size is horrendous resolution. We got so spoiled with 220ppi then anything else is pure garbage.

I remember this dude rumoring this display release to be imminent all the time. Well this is rumors 101

Totally agree.

I had the 42" PG42UQ from Asus recently (uses the same LG panel that the C2 TV uses) and the PPI was very poor. Actually, it has a lower pixel density than a 27" 1440p monitor let alone a 27" 5K or 4K display.

Text looked like garbage, not just due to the poor density but its use of a WRGB panel which has an extra white-only sub-pixel along with the normal RGB pixels. This created noticeable text fringing.

That display I had shined in gaming, looked incredible. But for anything computer-specific (spreadsheets, programming, even web browsing) it looked atrocious.

I would much prefer a 27" 5K or 32" 6K IPS with MiniLED backlight like the 14" and 16" M1/M2 Laptops have.
