Are Mac users clamouring for another even more expensive display?

Unless that display is meant for a 27" iMac, I think many simply would prefer Apple to lower the price of the current one.
We're clamouring for a better display. If being more expensive comes along with that, so be it.
The "less expensive Studio Display" is coming as well - it's the Samsung ViewFinity S9. ;)

well, I'm loving mine and have no remorse, technology always advances ...

I’m sure you’ll be thrilled that one year after the release of your monitor that it’s now obsolete upon the launch of this new one. Technology always advances, but Apple typically doesn’t release new monitors every year that make the previous year’s model laughably bad.

Why would we care?
I mean, if it hadn't been delayed, I would have had plenty time to cancel the Studie Display that took months to ship if I preferred (and could afford) the nicer one.

But now that I have it, the Studio Display will not be worse if a better model appears sooner rather than later.

(But it does prove again, waiting for a rumored product update is a sure path to frustration.)

Depends. If they release a better monitor at the same price one year later then you got fleeced by Apple.

I don't know how anyone looking at such a high level would be able to tell the difference between supply chain going between new monitors, the current monitors, or a new potential iMac and/or iMac pro. Seems like they all might look kind of the same at birds eye view... this guy is just guessing.

This should go over really well with those that forked over cash for the Studio Display last year...
I "forked over cash" (actually, I used credit cards) for the Studio Display last year, two of them actually (one with the height-adjustable stand and a regular display, one VESA with the nano-texture), and I'm feeling nothing but vindicated.

Since I generally order any Apple product I may be interested in on the first day, I didn't have to wait too long either. (It's always possible to cancel an order before it gets ready to ship.)

The original, breathlessly reported rumor was that a mini-LED Studio Display would come out within 2 months of the original one or so. This was obvious BS because it's not how Apple operates. They don't sell something to people and then effectively invalidate their purchase a few weeks later with a better version of the same product.

If a mini-LED version comes out some time this year, I'll have no regrets. No rush though.

True story, when the new one comes out, Apple will actually send a team round to destroy the old one people own.

I caught your wink so this comment is not aimed at you, but I am getting tired of the you tube tech reviewers raving about this monitor as if they have used it (looking at you Max Tech) but in reality is based purely on Samsung's word and reading specs. To my knowledge no one outside of Samsung has actually used or tested one besides walking past it at CES 2023. We don't even know the price yet, but hope/assume it will be less. Shrugs. And, great, they copied the Studio display's look. I typically dont buy knock offs, but will reserve judgement for when it is actually released and tested and priced.

I got mine on sale for $1299. When I see all the threads with pages and pages from people wrestling with compatibility issues and workarounds with inexpensive monitors, I know I made the right choice. The bit of extra pain in the wallet was worth the 30 second set up with my MBP. Great sound, great screen and it just works. Love it!

This.

I paid the full $1599 for mine and it has been nothing but a total joy to use. What the naysayers don't understand about this monitor is just how well it integrates with the Mac computing experience.

It works seamlessly, I can adjust brightness and sound from the keyboard and the 600nits holds its own next to my window on the sunniest of days (I live in San Diego). The speakers sound excellent. Everything plugs in via a single cable. It never fails to wake up or go to sleep like my Dell monitor sometimes does, and the webcam with center stage is good enough for Zoom/Teams. Oh, and 5K > 4K all day long.

It's too expensive, so it's not for everyone, but I've never understood why people who have never used it hate on it so much!

What a destructive attitude.

Because I bought something at some point, I should hope that there are no more technological advances anymore after that? Or at least not for several years?

I'm actually thrilled if Apple or someone else releases something that is a big leap over existing technology, even if I bought something recently. The existing tech is not going to get worse because of that.

You're effectively advocating stagnation and complacency.

As cool as they are, I probably won't buy any apple display as they're limited to thunderbolt input, making them not very versatile.
It's ridiculous you can't attach an apple tv to the display or a gaming computer to it.
A modern display has to feature at least an hdmi 2.1 port.

I got mine knowing very well that these rumors are out there, and I still bought it and it does everything that I need.
If and when a new 27 5k monitor gets released, then I will decide whether or not I'm going to have remorse, but the way it looks, won't happen.
But I understand your point and it's the nature of what we do best here on MR

totally agree, loving mine.
people "hate" it because that's what we do best on MR :)

I cannot tell the difference between ProMotion or not. I have the Apple Studio display, and even after using the expensive LGs and Dells, I think it is a superior image and certainly better sound. Any other time I see MicroLED and whatever, I can't tell if it is better or not.

Do I need a new eyeglasses prescription to get a better perspective?

Still trying to find a solution to run a work trash PC laptop and a Mac Mini. Not at the same time, but KVM. I would even mind plugging and unplugging, but I cannot find an HDMI to TB USB-C variant that will work. Going to BB and looking at it in person is so persuasive to pick one up. Perplexed why they did not include a ***** HDMI

If I was in need if a new display I’d definitely take a look at Samsung’s offering. But you are 100% correct, no one actually knows anything about it but people are acting like it’s already in the hands of consumers.

Frankly the only thing I don’t like about it is the Smart TV features. I hate smart TV’s. Who knew I’d be a tech Luddite working in IT at the old old age of 31 😂
