Apples release strategy boggles the mind. Just give us a modern 120 hz iMac that takes alot of ram, that’s all us designers want
We're clamouring for a better display. If being more expensive comes along with that, so be it.Are Mac users clamouring for another even more expensive display?
Unless that display is meant for a 27" iMac, I think many simply would prefer Apple to lower the price of the current one.
well, I'm loving mine and have no remorse, technology always advances ...
Why would we care?
I mean, if it hadn't been delayed, I would have had plenty time to cancel the Studie Display that took months to ship if I preferred (and could afford) the nicer one.
But now that I have it, the Studio Display will not be worse if a better model appears sooner rather than later.
(But it does prove again, waiting for a rumored product update is a sure path to frustration.)
I "forked over cash" (actually, I used credit cards) for the Studio Display last year, two of them actually (one with the height-adjustable stand and a regular display, one VESA with the nano-texture), and I'm feeling nothing but vindicated. This should go over really well with those that forked over cash for the Studio Display last year...
Oh no, I'm going to sue all these companies who released better versions of their products over the years! Product improvement is fleecing!Depends. If they release a better monitor at the same price one year later then you got fleeced by Apple.
True story, when the new one comes out, Apple will actually send a team round to destroy the old one people own.I’m sure you’ll be thrilled that one year after the release of your monitor that it’s now obsolete upon the launch of this new one. Technology always advances, but Apple typically doesn’t release new monitors every year that make the previous year’s model laughably bad.
The "less expensive Studio Display" is coming as well - it's the Samsung ViewFinity S9.![]()

I got mine on sale for $1299. When I see all the threads with pages and pages from people wrestling with compatibility issues and workarounds with inexpensive monitors, I know I made the right choice. The bit of extra pain in the wallet was worth the 30 second set up with my MBP. Great sound, great screen and it just works. Love it!
What a destructive attitude.I’m sure you’ll be thrilled that one year after the release of your monitor that it’s now obsolete upon the launch of this new one. Technology always advances, but Apple typically doesn’t release new monitors every year that make the previous year’s model laughably bad.
I got mine knowing very well that these rumors are out there, and I still bought it and it does everything that I need.I’m sure you’ll be thrilled that one year after the release of your monitor that it’s now obsolete upon the launch of this new one. totally agree, loving mine.This.
I paid the full $1599 for mine and it has been nothing but a total joy to use. What the naysayers don't understand about this monitor is just how well it integrates with the Mac computing experience.
It works seamlessly, I can adjust brightness and sound from the keyboard and the 600nits holds its own next to my window on the sunniest of days (I live in San Diego). The speakers sound excellent. Everything plugs in via a single cable. It never fails to wake up or go to sleep like my Dell monitor sometimes does, and the webcam with center stage is good enough for Zoom/Teams. Oh, and 5K > 4K all day long.
It's too expensive, so it's not for everyone, but I've never understood why people who have never used it hate on it so much!
This one will be at a completely different price point, so I wouldn't have bought this one anyway. This should go over really well with those that forked over cash for the Studio Display last year...
If I was in need if a new display I’d definitely take a look at Samsung’s offering. But you are 100% correct, no one actually knows anything about it but people are acting like it’s already in the hands of consumers.I caught your wink so this comment is not aimed at you, but I am getting tired of the you tube tech reviewers raving about this monitor as if they have used it (looking at you Max Tech) but in reality is based purely on Samsung's word and reading specs. To my knowledge no one outside of Samsung has actually used or tested one besides walking past it at CES 2023. We don't even know the price yet, but hope/assume it will be less. Shrugs. And, great, they copied the Studio display's look. I typically dont buy knock offs, but will reserve judgement for when it is actually released and tested and priced.
