Says a document based on one guy in the sales department....

Facts are facts. While people continue to cry about Apple's demise, they continue to outsell every other smartphone line on the planet.

Again - if having the top two selling smartphones in Q4 is "failure", I'm sure they be happy to keep "failing".

Nobody is saying that Apple or the iphone is a failure.. you are reading too much into it. The fact is that there has not been much innovation with the iphone lately, everyone can see that. If in fact Apple is worried (which is what this article is about) then perhaps there is reason is other than just a cheaper price from the competition. The iphone has always costed more so it can't be used as an excuse if infact Apple is worried.

(1) Apple is not more expensive than the competition. The top Android smartphones (GS4, Note 3, HTC One) all cost essentially the same as an iPhone.

(2) I'm not "reading into" anything. There are people here who literally say Apple is failing. Heck, it happens so frequently its a running joke for those who have half a brain.

(3) There are few here who know what the word innovation means. I would consider TouchID innovative given it is now being introduced into various competitor's phones and has changed at least the way I interact with my device. More "innovation" on the TouchID front is sure to come.

(4) Apple may very well be "concerned" with what the competition is doing. But concerned (read aware) and worried are two different things. Again, the article is about someone on the sales team. Not Apple executives.

At this point, Apple simply needs to continue refining current products, coming up with new products and creating the best ecosystem of devices and services they possibly can. That's all Apple SHOULD and likely IS "worried" about.

to be fair, 4.7 would look more like the one in the middle. its not much bigger than a 4.0 iPhone if done right.

also many people do not use their phones to make calls anymore. I have yet to make a single phone call with my secondary phone the Nexus 4 ^^ and only about 6 hours total on my iPhone

5 (i rather text back and forth i hate calling)

I have about 6 days, 8 hours talk time on my 1 year old iphone 5...some of us DO use our phone quite a bit AS A PHONE and want it to fit in our pocket during the work day...not carry around some monstrosity...that's why I have an iPad!! I Would rather make a 3 minute phone call than to text back and forth for 10 minutes!!

The Nexus 5 is a top Android phone and it is only $349. Half the cost of an iPhone.

What exactly does this have to do with the actual case?

This sounds more like a smear campaign than anything of actual relevance to the case itself. If Samsung thinks this is as incriminating as their "here's how to copy the iPhone" documents then they are sadly mistaken.

TouchID is pretty innovative. The 64-bit A7 sent ARM chipmakers into a tizzy, if not outright panic.

While I believe that Apple should offer screen size choices like they do with virtually all of their other product lines, I don't believe that the lack of a big screen means they have stood still.

It's also heavily subsidized by google. It doesn't count in a price comparison.

I'm glad Apple is worried about its competitors. Last thing we need is for Apple to become complacent and rest on it laurels.
Competition is great for the consumer in the end.

Absolutely. And although Android has its good things, for overall user experience, and even some 'Droid users will concede that, the iPhone 5S still stands head and shoulders above the competition. See also below.

…..Analysts have already suggested the release of a larger-screened iPhone could lure back a significant number of Android switchers and cause a massive spike in upgrades…..

Knowing several larger-screen proponents myself, who mainly for that reason have switched to Android, and who would come back to a 5.5 to 5.7" iPhone in a heartbeat, and also based upon many comments on this site and others, I believe that's a fair and reasonable assumption.

I'm confused. What the hell is Samsung doing here? Isn't this a trial about Samsung implementing technologies that Apple has patented? Instead it looks like Samsung is trying to make Apple look worried about their marketing techniques. It has absolutely nothing to do with the trial. Why is this information the only thing that's being discussed? If I were the judge in this case I would throw Samsung out of the court room for wasting my time

It's obvious what Samsung is doing. They want the jury to believe this isn't about patents but Apple being fearful of a competitor and wanting to stop them via the courts. And they know the judge wants this trial to be over already so they know she probably won't be too sympathetic to Apple objections.

If she wants it to be over she should tell them to show that they aren't copying patented technology or pay up and get out of her courtroom. She is allowing this joke of a trial to occur.

Genuine question: Does this have anything to do with the Patient infringement case that is being held, why was Samsung allowed to bring this up?

I was wondering the same question, but everybody on this forum jumped on the usual Android vs Apple discussion.

I think what Samsung lawyers are trying to do is, paint a picture that this is not about patents but it`s a `war` against Samsung. Still I haven`t heard them saying that they are not using what is covered in the patents.

What shocking revelations. Who would have thought that a company would be concerned about their biggest competition.

It should be viewed in the context of the trial. Samsung is arguing that Apple declared Holly War on Android because of the fear to lose sales. Now they are proving it.

Sure, until you realize that for Apple you'll need to look at the 32 or 64 GB models.

This is the first fair price argument I've seen on here. Apple absolutely over charges for storage upgrades. They always have.

Not if people are buying what they like. 6" screen too big? Buy something smaller. 4" too small, buy something bigger. Choice is a good thing. Get what YOU like and don't worry what others think. If Apple doesn't offer the screen size you want, buy something else that does.

But does that invalidate Apple's argument? If not I fail to see how it matters in this trial...

I hope Steve's holy war was worth it. But honestly I think this one won't go Apple's way.

Those laughing at large phones or of the idea that Apple WOULDN'T be worried are amusing.

Apple is like every company in business. Competition matters. And all companies pay close attention to what the others in their market are doing.

Apple has to release a larger iPhone. There was a time when I mocked the larger phones. That is when I spent a lot of time using the phone as a phone, now that is very rare for me.

For every 1 minute I spend on the phone, I spend 60 minutes doing something else. Email, games, texting, etc. The iPhone 5 just made me want more. It was a taste of what I actually need, larger screen.

Honestly, if iPhone 6 does not come in a galaxy sized phone. It will be the first time I strongly consider switching away from Apple. Android is getting better, they have come a long ways. I think overall Apple still makes a better product, but they are quickly losing that edge.
