Apple's UK Online Store Lists August 28th Ship Date for Snow Leopard Up-to-Date Program

I don't know if that is necessarily true. I think that it is possible Apple could announce it on Monday or Tuesday of next week for a Friday release.

They could, who knows.

I’m just thinking that the longer they take to officially announce it, the less likely it will be released before September.

Well this is the bit where I look a complete idiot, just been back into my order to get a screen shot and it say September NOT August.

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead anyone. ...... Now wheres that telephone number of the opticians.

Awww, oh well. We'll keep waiting then :D

I've been running it on my Hacintosh for a week now. It's quite quick and fairly reliable. Audio is sketchy, but that's my problem. I can't say I've encountered any showstopping issues, but I'm not running it as my main OS (and won't till the second dot release) so I can't say I've tested it thoroughly. I realize I'm not saying much here, but I guess the point of this post is to say it isn't terrible but as with all OSes the first release is when the real testing happens. Give it till December.
This is relevant to my interests. I'm running an i7 Hackie. Are you using Chameleon as your boot loader? I believe that Chameleon works with the 32 bit kernel, but will require more work for the 64 bit kernel. I think that audio and possibly network are the only patches I'll need, but I have a Griffin Firewave I can use for audio until the kexts are updated.

i work at an apple premium reseller. we had some talks with apple today. some "not to be opened before ..." boxes are expected by late wendnesday :)

:D :D This could be the news we've been waiting for...

This might be going out on a limb here but you dont fancy opening the box on Wed and taking a few pictures do you? :p

Stands to reason?

If there are new models expected in Sept wouldn't they ship with SL installed? if thats true then you porobably should have SL in your hands by the 28th. Does that make sense?

Major official Apple Reseller in Germany (www.gravis.de) sent out a newsletter today, which basically says "come and pick up your copy of 10.6. on August 28" :p

From what I've heard SL still boots a 32-bit kernel, even though all the applications run 64-bit. This is assumedly for driver compatibility (although maybe it's only a dev build thing). Apparently Macs can boot the 64-bit kernel by holding 6 and 4 during startup, though.

Only on Macs that can run a 64 bit kernel. My EFI on my first gen Mac Pro is 32 bit.
