Dates mat changed due to public holidays?

Say if Apple wanted to release this the first week in Sept, as August 31st in the UK is a bank holiday with no postal deliveries they would have to ship it by Aug 28th for delivery on the 1st Sept?

In the USA they could ship August 31st for Sept 1st deliver?

Just a thought....

That would be because originally Apple was gonna ship build 10A432, but have now replaced it with the *proper* GM build 10A435.

A "friend" told me so.

 :p

Heh, actually they might have leaked an unfinished build for some public testing before launch.
Didn't EA release a Sims 3 "leak" that didn't work online? Given their antics over the Dante's Inferno PR stunt it wouldn't surprise me they orchestrated that too.
A way of getting some feedback from a part of the market who are very picky and likely to get some good results from?

I'd imagine this question will get lost in the mail here but am I able to buy the "up to date" version if I bought a Mac with a Leopard install disc, or is it only for people who bought Leopard recently? Edit: nevermind read Apple's page regarding this :).

Just noticed something weird with my sisters order

has this
MAC OS X10.6 SNOWLEOPARD UTD FULLFIL-ZML
MC204ZM/A which then says

followed by... Cancelled - Replaced with new product

and then shows this as ordered...

MAC OS X 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD FULLFIL-INT
MC204Z/A

Only difference I can see in title is the lack of UTD... same price though?

You didn't look very good.

MAC OS X10.6 SNOWLEOPARD UTD FULLFIL-ZML
MC204ZM/A which then says

and then shows this as ordered...

MAC OS X 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD FULLFIL-INT
MC204Z/A

The difference is that the older order was MC204ZM/A and the newer is MC204Z/A

That's kind of correct, OpenGL is the open standard equivalent to Microsoft's proprietary Direct3D. DirectX is the whole package including sound, input (mouse/kb/joystick/gamepad) management and so on.

That's the main reason for DirectX growing so strong, since the developer gets the whole package it becomes more easy and faster to develop. It also makes it possible to quickly port things from/to Windows to/from the Xbox.

What's needed is a really good open standard cross-platform API for developing games. OpenGL is only a part of something like that. When someone puts a lot of money and effort into something like that we'll maybe begin to see some changes in the Mac and Linux gaming departments. Not only the icky Wine stuff.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize DirectX covered so much and I'm actually quite impressed.

TechRadar are reporting that Apple have announced 28th August as the "official" release date... despite there being no evidence of this on Apple's websites...

I agree that its fishy, i didnt expect an announcement until somewhere between 8 and 10 am PDT so now for another 2-4 hours. Good news if its true, but Ill wait for confirmation from:apple:

Why must Apple tease us so?

SDL and OpenAL have been around for a long time, and have been used in no small number of commercial games. Unfortunately, it hasn't really helped Mac and Linux gaming much. People still prefer to use DirectX and limit themselves to one platform.

What might help is something even more complete, like XNA.

And so the manipulation begins...

Toy with us on lot on MacRumors and other similar sites, create a whole lot of hype and tempt folks to pre-order or order on the day, thereby boosting sales over the opening week... clever.

Though since I ain't buying Snow Leopard until sometime around Spring, I remain relatively immune to all this. Also, the comments that Snow Leopard is not ready yet aren't encouraging... Never mind. Things will be at an acceptable standard for release, for sure...

Damn, I was about to order a 17" MBP. Do you think I should wait until the 28th? :D

There's no reason. Snow Leopard will not make its way to new computers on launch day, it will take several weeks until SL is preinstalled on new hardware. After SL announcement all new hardware should have SL drop-in upgrades included. But if it isn't, that purchase is eligible for up-to-date program, which means you get the drop-in disk for small postage fee.

If you want SL preinstalled, you will have to wait until at least October, probably longer.

No press release yet. Normally they are released between 8 and 9 AM EST. Also, all press releases regarding OS X availability (at least since 10.4) were on Tuesdays. So it seems to me the press release for Snow Leopard will be released on a Tuesday as well.

You really cannot use the term "all" with a sample size of two. The announcement can happen on any day of the week. I really doubt that Apple has a hard rule that says "OS announcements can be only made on Tuesdays"
