Was 11" too small and 13" too big for some people?

Yes. My thought is that there really is no need for both a 13" Air and 13" rMBP when the 13" Air would go retina. The next version of the 13" rMBP would make the size even closer. The new 12" is probably the replacement for the 11" MBA except with retina and a bigger screen in a similar dimensions that the 11" MBA is now.

What increasing popularity?

Beyond that Apple has access to the same product pipeline everybody else has. They have known for years where Intel would be at power and performance wise. The capability of Broadwell will drive product design.

Increasing popularity in the echo chamber of the tech world.

Only thing the Macbook really needs is a better screen. the machine feels outdated becaue of the grainy low res screen. Ill buy it for sure. Apart from that the MB Air is thin enough and good enough for casual use which is what its for.

Looking forward to get it.

The 12" PowerBook was what got me into Macs, and I love my 11" MBA. Give me a retina screen and we'll definitely talk.

If this is a 12" 16:10 display fit into a case around the size of the 11" MBA I would buy it in heartbeat. I used to own an 11" Air, but the 16:9 display and terribly low resolution combined with the huge screen bezel made me switch to a 13" rMBP. Plus the battery life wasn't great either (At the time, 1st gen.) But I loved the tiny size as I could throw it in any bag and wouldn't even notice it.

A budget HP laptop from 5 years ago had a clickless trackpad. It's nothing new or revolutionary.

Have you ever used a trackpad on an HP, much less a budget HP notebook? They are some of the worst in the industry.

I really hope there is more to the next generation MBA than less I/O ports and a compromise display size.

For me Retina is no big selling point either. If it were I would have gotten a MBP a long time ago.

My 3 year old MBA is still going strong, and I am in no rush to replace it, but at this rate, when that time comes, I'll probably go with a Surface over a Macbook Air.

Yes. The computers are trash. I despise using it on the few occasions that I have to. My only point was the clickless trackpads have been around a long while.

I'm sure others have them as well, but I haven't used anything except my MBP

I think the intent is to consolidate their lineup so they only need to make a single form factor. For the people who wanted something smaller than the 13" - it is! For the people who wanted something larger than the 11" - it is! It satisfies everyone. If you want larger than 12", there's the MBPs. If you want something smaller than 12", there's the iPads.

One thing I wonder... Will the 12" Air and the 12" iPad Pro be the same device? It seems odd to me that Apple would be building two separate devices that are the same size and targeting the same market.

Hope they reduce bezel sizes. I find the MBA bezels a little too thick compared to other macbook lines.

I just want Apple hardware and software that works. Not thinner, not a rush job and burning the candle at both ends: just a smooth working product as I had before Mavericks/iPhone 6/iOS 8.
Mavricks was good OS, way better than Mountain Lion for example. iPhone 6 is a good phone. And I don't have any problems with iOS 8 since 8.1 update.

Get your stuff right.

What do Supermodels and Apple have in common ?

It's become an obsession.
There's nothing wrong with the MBA design of the last 4 years.
Akin to the iPhone 6, I'm voting for longer battery life instead of ever thinner devices.... that could bend :)

I just hope they don't pull a MacMini'14 refresh and degrade the current specs in the new MBAs for the sake of thinness and silence. Or does the fan in the current MBA's bother anybody ?

I disagree, owned many and still not a fan of the "triangular" side profile. would prefer it to be flat like the rMBP, but thinner and lighter, which is what I imagine they will do on the new one.

Agree. It is starting to feel dated.

The Surface Pro 3 is a very compelling product. It certainly gives the MBA a run for its money due to the better specs. I can't wait to see the Surface Pro 4 and the new MBA.

I think the SP3 has forced Apple to upgrade those ****** MBA TN displays.
