Is this replacing iTunes? Can I backup my phone through the Music app?

No, you backup your phone with iCloud. I get wanting to have local copies but iCloud works so reliably that at this point, Apple doesn’t need their music app working as a phone backup tool.

I’m glad the media will be separated. I wonder if the main iTunes app will now just be for the store and media purchased will go to their respective apps (like on iOS devices). I have a 2012 retina MacBook Pro, and I hope it can run the new OS (or if the apps will be through App Store and able to run on 10.13 (I had to downgrade back to 10.13 due to bugs).

TV app is fine. Music app needs to maintain the music features we had from iTunes over the years. Please don't skip out on stuff like iWork did when first redesigned.
I'm mostly afraid they will get rid of some metadata like star ratings. I use them a lot and with every update I pray Apple dooesn't kill them and just keep like/dislike.

Looks easy to use!
I’ve used iTunes since OSX 10.4 and I can barely find how to like a song.
If I can’t find it, how on earth is my GF or mum supposed to find it?

So everyone who wants to backup a 512GB iPhone must buy the top tier iCloud Plan? And what if they only have access to a land line internet service with upload speeds ~1mbps?

Agree that the “Music” app shouldn’t have this responsibility but iSync should be brought back.

Until, there is no internet, or the upload speed is so slow, the backup always fail. Having a local backup is always a nice option.

He literally doesn’t know what he’s talking about lmao. You’ll still be able to backup your iPhone to your computer. You’ll be able to sync your local library to your iPhone, why wouldn’t you be able to back up your phone as well?

You call this "incredible design language"?

But sure... keep kissing up to Steve Jobs' corpse
It worked better than what we have now for sure. Plenty of contrast and darker tone makes it very easy to look at and use. Yeah, it looks dated now but it's much more user friendly. Also, look at the iTunes icon. So good!

I know I'm staying with Mojave (running iTunes 12.6.5.3), as I won't be needing a new Mac for att least the next 7-8 years.
Mojave on my haswell professor and 4GB ram is unacceptably slow. So I go back to high sierra and never want to upgrade, unless iOS breaks iTunes 12.6.5.3.

You know I am just as curious as the next guy about what Apple is doing next but there is a piece of me that still kind of misses being surprised on Keynote day. Is there anyone else that also feels that way? I know...why do I visit a site like this if I want to be surprised? There is also a piece of me that is impatient too. I remember in 2007 when Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone. The entire tech community was blown away! I want to be surprised like that again.

If you have a 1mb connection and a 512gb iPhone. I think you are doing something wrong

I feel like Apple has basically become bored with producing software. 99% of their apps now are just the bare minimum functionality.
When your only motivation for getting up every morning to work is money, or worse, for shareholders' money, you will be bored soon with producing anything. This how Apple 'geniuses' are feeling. Foxxcom, whose business model is you know what, is not a separate company from Apple; it is its twin.

Will these apps be available to homesharing? If so, does that mean I would have to open two apps to homeshare ripped music and movies/tv shows? I think this may be the beginning of the end for Apple allowing users to curate their own content.

I’m actually finding it very hard to look at. At first glance, I can’t even read some of the words due to the OS’s over use of textures. The colors blend too easy especially when it’s grey.
As for the iTunes icon, the 8th note should’ve been white like the App Store’s A. The glossy covering on some icons makes it look cheap; almost plastic like (I know it’s supposed to represent glass but it just doesn’t look right). Overall the entire desktop can end up feeling dirty and cluttered even though it isn’t.

Nevertheless, I guess we just have different viewpoints on UI. I’ve always a minimalist lover even before it was cool.

Still legal to live in the boondocks. Still legal for certain companies to call DSL "broadband" while the FCC winks and nods. Someone's doing something wrong, yeah, but it ain't us boonie residentz... try knocking on some congress critter doors. Apparently things connectivity-related will finally change only when enough congressmen elect to buy or rent a weekend getaway tucked into the wrinkled terrain of places like foothills of the entire Appalachian chain where a) there's "spotty" (aka no) cell service and b) the net connection option is DSL or satellite.

Meanwhile Apple needs to leave us our iTunes local backup option, because even hillbillies like me may have 256GB phones now. WiFi-calling works ok over slowish DSL... iCloud backups, not so much.

Not impressed with what I see so far. Have to wait for next week. But it seems to me its more designed to have subscription/purchases to be more prominent, which is not surprising as Tim Cook is guiding the company in the services direction.

Uh, no. When did iCloud become... "reliable"? It's *convenient*, so I pay the 99c a month to allow my phone to back itself up, but when it breaks it's ultimately not that big a deal as I back the phone up locally.

Apple services... just say no.

Am I the only one who remembers when Mac OS X was a hodgepodge of aqua, brushed metal, bordered and borderless windows, various abandoned UX ideas like drawers, and a ****in' leather-skinned calendar?
And green cloth, yellow legal pages, a weird white shelf for the dock, and the grey Linen. So much grey linen. It was everywhere.Log in screen? Grey linen
Mission control: Grey Linen
Launch pad: Grey Linen
Notifications center? Grey linen
