I wonder if they'll bring the tab reloading from iOS 7 to OSX? :D

Disclaimer: This is intended as a humorous post. But I do wish they would get rid of the tab reloading in iOS.

That could actually be spun as a new feature. We reload your content for you so you don't need to! :D

I guess I am a bit mixed about the news. There are still a ton of features and functionality missing in iOS which I would like to see added, and it seems like we may be seeing largely under-the-hood improvements and piecemeal features added.

Normally I would agree with you, but in this case, have you seen iOS 7? I still get random reboots from time to time along with a host of other little bugs. I am totally fine with under the hood features and a few new features like quick reply or simplified notification center.

Looking forward to the OS X redesign, nice that it'll get centre stage after being out of the spotlight for iOS for many years ;)

Yeah, people will stop moaning about how much they hate iOS 7, hate all flat design, hate any change to their phone and start moaning about how much they hate OSX 10.10, hate how Scott got fired, hate how a decade old design is getting a facelift.

Rest assured however, whether its iOS or OSX, people will still moan about how Apple is doomed.

If you read this article, you will realize there is still a ton of functionality missing from ios8 that's preventing the iPad from becoming the true post-PC device it was touted to be. We likely won't see them all, but I am still hoping for at least inter-app communication.

I'd love some UI redesigns on OS X, but please don't add too much white space though. Using iPhone and iPad at night is already straining my eyes enough.

This. Innovation and redesign is fine, but hopefully not with an all-white interface. Or give at least an option for a darker theme.

I think Apple needs to step it up with iCloud. I don't want a Mac in the cloud but I would love if iCloud was capable of giving us an iCloud version of Finder that was accessible from all your Apple devices and a browser. It should be as easy as creating an iCloud folder on your devices and then having that sync with all your Apple devices. Right now being able to view/work on files or projects is a pain between OS X and iOS, and even between 2 Mac's.

Also release a streaming service or making it easier to use one iTunes Library (or any of the iLife apps) with multiple computers.

Agreed, this is Microsoft-like sloppy of Apple and things like beach balls really needs to be resolved. OS X already seems a bit fragile-istic with the need for disk permissions maintenance and such.

Apple isn't really a great software company. Windows has been more stable than OS X for a few generations now, both because Microsoft stepped up, but also because Apple is really slipping. I'd be happy if Apple could just release an OS that doesn't need brand new hardware to function properly.

What I was saying is that the statements I bolded contradicted each other. You complained about them delaying new features, and then you said you'd rather wait 6 months to put out a sturdy build.

I'm on the mobile site and nothing is in Bold. Anyway you might be confused. I complained that they are delaying new features until 8.1 because they aren't ready, hence why I said Apple should wait to release iOS 8. I never said I was inpatient.

I wouldn't mind a Clean Simple OSX. iOS7 is good for me Zen.

I love white and colour. I'm not a fan of patterns or textures. Keep is simple.......

....like me. Derp.

Would love iPhone and Aperture to get a redesign too.

I’m not expecting a redesign comparable to iOS 7, neither in looks nor in extent. Apple could pull it off for iOS, but only because that has some decent developer support. On OS X, I still have to rely on software that doesn’t even make use of Lion’s features!

Just get rid of those Apps. Apps got ready for the retina display really quickly and Apple at the time had only on expensive Mac using a retina display.

Just like on iOS 7, seeing an app using the old design simply remembers users that the app still has not been updated, just like Tweetbot on the iPad. Users will find an alternative that has.

The multi-resolution support and high priority iOS device is almost certainly iCar. By supporting many screen resolutions it becomes possible to install iCar into the existing user base as well as new cars. That increases the addressable market by more than 5x.

Apple can control the resolution on iWatch but not past installed automotive displays that are to say the least, dumb.

One possible "Star Trek" project may be to put iOS (or iTunes) on Samsung, HTC and other handsets to widen the app-store and iTunes dominance. For a while you could get third party Macs with parallel ports! Apple could run MacOS on x86. That was a long time ago.

Two things concern me.

1. It's not the first time I'm hearing that engineers are being shifted from OSX to iOS and vice versa in order to meet deadlines.

Why not just hire more developers?

2. Seeing that they have to move developers around, why is Apple placing more emphasis on the Mac?

Aren't we in the Post PC world? Macs only account for only 12% of their revenues, versus iOS' 74%! More emphasis should be made in making iOS better, not the other way around.

Sounds like it will be a very UN-exciting WWDC in 2014... i'd really like to hear more about the Apple TV software (and possibly hardware) update more then anything at this conference...

You think the AppleTV is too big? How do you propose to do that, considering the power supply is built-in? If you want to compare the size to an iPhone, don't forget to include a power adapter.

The size of the AppleTV is fine as it is, IMHO.

Agreed. If anything, I'd be for growing it a bit bigger to resurrect a few things lost from gen 1 to 2 (not internal hard drive though). It's not like the other iDevices- generally it isn't going to be going out the door with its owner. My :apple:TV units have basically sat on a A/V shelf for all the years I've owned them. I think I picked them up to restore them and to replace the hard drive in the first gen once or twice. Personally, the box could be as big as a DVD player or VCR if the added space served some purpose. I don't see this as a product where "thinner" brings any benefit.

That’s the point. I can’t. Some apps don’t have alternatives, some are even provided by my employer and before also my university. And making an app Retina-ready is trivial compared to a design change. It’s not even that easy to update an app to iOS 7, you do have to put some work into it. It’s not just as easy as swapping out icons and changing the background colour.

The thing with iOS is that you can only see one interface at the time. While apps that are not designed for iOS 7 look odd, they still work. How do you think OS X will look when you have two windows side by side with completely different themes?

I believe that Apple will not overdo it. But then again, Apple has stopped caring about compatibility a while ago. In that sense it wouldn’t surprise if they did.

Hmm...

It stores the data in a similar way to thumbprint point data, fully encrypted and nothing identifiable. But nice to send to your doctor to keep track of at which point your blood pressure started rising for example.

It would give me away. But I'm not the only person who got sent home for good last week.

Two of the pins are dedicated to audio in and out. So an adapter is possible. But I'm not aware of one being made. But it's possible.

Looks like I am no longer looking forward to WWDC. I haven't touched my Mac Mini in over a year. That's still got 10.7 on it.

So Apple is behind on iOS 8 but they are just going to release it anyway and put most of the new features in 8.1?!!! Wow... Apple is starting to slip. I'd rather wait 6 extra months for them to put out sturdy builds and not just shovel us crap.

If only Apple had the money to be able to afford to staff up both teams sufficiently so that this kind of thing didn't have to happen over and over.

Wow, pulling iOS developers to join the OSX team - that's the opposite of what usually occurs. I wonder if 10.10 is going to be a bigger change and iOS8 less so.

Man I hope iOS 8 isn't a dud. Updated maps app is just that, an App update; nothing more. App updates can happen and bring new features in point releases... We don't need to wait until a new iOS every year to add a new feature to an app (like transit) that should have been there in the first place. Likewise the addition of the Health Book or Text Edit, or Preview or any other app, are just bloody apps. It does not count as an OS update.

I hope iOS 8 refines on the rough edges visually and design language wise from iOS 7. And I also hope they give us some real features in iOS 8, like glance able information, a quick reply feature like OS X and not just for messages but for all types of Apps and correspondence types; a quick reply API really, the ability for the apps to actually talk to each other, an API for Apps to use Siri (which developers have been asking since Siri's release), oh and while you're at it can you please for the love of everything tech, make Siri voice processing local and not network connection dependent so we can use Siri anywhere and not just in LTE areas as well as make the recognition and response at least as fast as Androids if not faster, an API for Touch ID to do things like lock certain apps so that only I can open them by verifying my identity and use touch ID for logging in to a multitude of apps and services, heck I'd even settle for options for a better keyboards by 3rd parties.

Release apps whenever, don't wait until WWDC every year, especially if the apps don't have API's for the developers to use anyway... At WWDC focus on making iOS as a whole better. Please... Seriously, Please.

Interesting, I clean installed mavericks on my 2009 iMac and it has never been faster?

I don't mean for vacations... I travel >75% for work so I am often gone Monday-Thursday for work. It'd be nice to use my AppleTV at my hotel when I travel.

How about just make the "app" that is the :apple:TV software run on the other iDevices (and maybe Macs too)? It's just software on top of hardware that has existed for a couple of years now in other iDevices.

I don't see a big benefit in making :apple:TV even more portable except for maybe the single people living alone. Otherwise, when the :apple:TV micro is taken on one of those trips, the rest of the family/roommates won't have an :apple:TV to watch. Make the software an app to run on iDevices and those on the go have an ":apple:TV to go" with them and those still back at home have theirs too.

Personally, I'd like to have a return of "front row" on Macs that allows the mini to be my next :apple:TV. But then again, I miss many features in the final incarnation of the UI for the first generation :apple:TV.
